[microsound] OT: laptop for permanent sound installation - suggestions?

Perhaps a runtime is possible.  I never tried.  I did, however, run
Max4.6 in ubuntu under Wine.  Cracked version, of course, because PACE
does not work in such emulators.  It was illegal, I know, but I just
had to try it :)  It was also unusable in the sense that UI was
extremely slow and sound could not keep up.  I have a screenshot
somewhere, I think.

What I can say, however, is that I have experience using a netbook
with similar specs for audio performances.  Max5 did not perform so
well, Pd did a little better in Win7 but Pd in Linux was definitely a
winner.

In any case, to get back to the original question, no matter what
software you want to run, the mentioned hardware is risky for a
permanent installation.  My advice on running linux was only a
side-note pertaining to the type of machine based on my personal
experience in a non-permanent performance situation.  YMMV.
