*Digital Space presents:

The Shape Sequencer (v1.2)
by Poil

Performance - Friday 23 September 7pm (£2)
Installation – Friday 23 September – Friday 7 October (free)
Venue – Showroom Cinema, Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2BX.

Why do we play games but use software? Why is so much software so difficult
to
play with? What exactly is the difference between the playing of a game and
the playing of a musical instrument? The Shape Sequencer is an attempt to
approach the design of software having learnt from the qualities of game
interaction.

Built using the realtime graphics and audio software PD (and GEM), Poil has
created a 3D graphical electronic instrument for up to four players,
wheresounding shapes are manipulated using joypads to record small
loopingpatterns.

Previous incarnations of the Shape Sequencer have been seen live at DS04, and
installed at Hull Time Based Arts’ Gage05 festival, and Digital Space is
proud to be hosting the first performance and exhibition of v1.2.

The performance will be followed by a DJ set from Juliun (c90) (Fri 23 Sept,
8pm - late) in the Showroom bar, accompanied by a selection of visual works
by Vienna-based artists Christoph Hoeshele, Georg Novotny and Luc Gross.
