The Shape Sequencer (v1.2)<BR>

Venue – Showroom Cinema, Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1 2BX.<BR>

Why do we play games but use software? Why is so much software so difficult to<BR>
play with? What exactly is the difference between the playing of a game and<BR>
the playing of a musical instrument? The Shape Sequencer is an attempt to<BR>
approach the design of software having learnt from the qualities of game<BR>
interaction.<BR>
<BR>
Built using the realtime graphics and audio software PD (and GEM), Poil has<BR>
created a 3D graphical electronic instrument for up to four players,<BR>
wheresounding shapes are manipulated using joypads to record small<BR>
loopingpatterns.<BR>
<BR>
Previous incarnations of the Shape Sequencer have been seen live at DS04, and<BR>
installed at Hull Time Based Arts’ Gage05 festival, and Digital Space is<BR>
proud to be hosting the first performance and exhibition of v1.2.<BR>
<BR>
The performance will be followed by a DJ set from Juliun (c90) (Fri 23 Sept,<BR>
8pm - late) in the Showroom bar, accompanied by a selection of visual works<BR>
by Vienna-based artists Christoph Hoeshele, Georg Novotny and Luc Gross.<BR>
