framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley

a long list of tracks for this edition as we sampled a large chunk of the recent 2cd compilation put out by sirr-ecords, untitled songs, tied to the structural creation of karlheinz stockhausen's seminal piece, gesang der jünglinge. from the liner notes: 'the works on this cd are not plain homage, nor are they sampled from the original. they are rather a survey of the current state of electronic/electroacoustic that exists half outside the academic music life.' most feature the common elements of voice manipulation and the sounds of interior spaces - we sampled works from many framework regulars, as well as a few new names.

we also heard the first of some new works by the composer emmanuel mieville, some tonal creations from tetsu inoue, new works by ubeboet, james wyness and michael trommer, and a framework introduction recorded for us by cedric peyronnet (aka toy.bizarre).

this weeks commentary was recording in the abney park cemetery in stoke newington, north london, on what turned out to be a particularly active friday afternoon. baby buggies, tree pruning, nearby building work, and a very active group of winter birds provided the backdrop for my usual set on information - this is a method i plan to be using more often in future, to remove the show entirely from the studio, and place framework where it should be: in the field.

again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch!
