i-DAT [Institute of Digital Art & Technology] / Creative Partnerships
Research Associate in Telematic Learning Environments
Studentship £12,000 + Fees - £3,010: TOTAL £15,010 pa.
Applications are invited for a three-year Research Associateship (with one
year¹s guaranteed funding with the possibility of extending for a further
two years) based in i-DAT, School of Computing Communications and
Electronics at the University of Plymouth.
This project offers an outstanding opportunity for a student to work on an
exciting practice-based research project. The research context provided by
the Infinite Infants¹ project explores the pedagogic opportunities provided
by telematic/networked learning and teaching environments/architectures at
reception level. These networked environments will be developed in
collaboration with Creative Partnerships, HMC, Hyde Park Infants, Langley
Community Infants and Woodford Infants School. The research post will be
required to develop tools and systems that enhance the learning environment
and extend the technological systems developed through the collaboration.
Infinite-Infants is a one year project. The project will enhance the
learning and teaching environment, provide added value to the curriculum,
empower children and teachers and enable mechanisms to ensure the projects
sustainability beyond the possible three year funded period. The Research
Associate will have the opportunity to register for a PhD.
Applicants should have programming and authoring skills in the following
areas: server side development (perl, cgi, database), web authoring,
streaming media, flash, director and a familiarity with cross platform
environments (MacOSX, windows and Linux). Experience of working with schools
would be appropriate.
The Research Associateship will commence as soon as possible. Further
particulars and an application form are available from Carole Watson,
