Dear µsounders -

This is to let you know about two great shows starting from this Mon, 28 Jul, plus a concert video release.
If you'll be in the San Francisco Bay Area, you may find these shows of interest.

[1] MSP/Piano/+: w Thollem McDonas' Werkstattband, Outsound New Music Summit, this Mon, 28 Jul, @ CMC, SF

=================================

Peripatetic, “perpetually touring” improvising pianist, Thollem McDonas, renowned for his powerful solo performances and scintillating collaborations, also specializes in improv-workshops where music is roughed out among the participants one day and served hot and fresh soon afterward, and that’s the scenario he’s bringing to the Outsound New Music Summit this year.

It will be my pleasure to join Thollem and the other members of the Werkstattband on piano #2 and laptop in one of the many great events of the Bay Area’s freshest new music festival, the Outsound New Music Summit.

[2] Set 1: Mountains In Space (computer music from the CCRMA tribe)| Set 2: Luciano Chessa & Benjamin Kreith: Garrett — Confusing Salon Music & Noise since 2013, Sun 10 Aug at Berkeley Arts Festival

=================================
A Futurist Sound-Poem is waiting to explode near you!

I'm honored to curate several shows in Aug at the East Bay’s indispensable focal point for new music, Berkeley Arts Festival, and this is the first, onSun 10 May.

The show runs the gamut from the birth of mechanical analog synthesis in the crucible of Italian Futurism almost 100 years ago to the cutting edge digital synthesis of tomorrow being invented at Stanford’s CCRMA computer music research center.

Set 1: Mountains in Space (Luke Dahl and Colin Sullivan of CCRMA) perform live ambient electronic music made with analog synths, custom algorithms, and field recordings. Their music is a time-dilated dive into fractal cosmic jello.

Set 2: Bay Area New Music champions Luciano Chessa & Benjamin Kreith perform pieces from their suite Garrett — Confusing Salon Music & Noise since 2013, for violin, piano, Vietnamese đàn bầu, bullhorn, saw, Aardvark synth app, harmonica & voice.  A program consisting of original pieces, Erik Satie transcriptions, Futurist sound poetry, a Fluxus piece, delicate improvisations, and much more.

[3] Video Release: w Aaron Bennett's Electro-Magnetic Trans-Personal Orchestra, SIMM Series, 10 Feb 2013

=================================

Through the generosity of videographer Charles Smith, video is newly available of a very fun show at Outsound's SIMM Series show on 10 Feb 2013.

For a wild ride, I recommend this video of Aaron Bennett's piece "Z" from that show: (link, 14 min)

Darren Johnston sends this already rather far-out piece into outer space at 9:00 min with a remarkable "dry trumpet" solo...

Line-up:

Aaron Bennett - soprano saxophone, composer, conductor
Darren Johnston - trumpet
Rob Ewing - trombone
Jeff Hobbs - violin
Lisa Mezzacappa - bass
Crystal Pascucci - cello
Joe Lasqo - piano & laptop
Bob Marsh - accordion (and spiritual guidance counselor)

Hope to see you at these great shows!
