      RUNAR MAGNUSSON: (IS / DK)

Runar Magnusson was born in Akureyri, Iceland but has resided in Copenhagen, Denmark for the last thirteen years. Runar's sonic work ranges from delicate atmospherics to cacophonous and terrifying sample-laden sound collages. He has been working with surround music in the last couple of years, has played in various churches, theatres, clubs and galleries in Europe and has toured Asia - playing all over China and Hong Kong. He recently performed in Mexico this past spring and is currently on his first North American tour where he will be presenting his latest release 'Options' on the new label Hljodakletter. Options is a 2GB USB stick where the buyer will have different options on what to include on the release. A few copies of this special item will available at the Toronto concert.

      CHRISTINA SEALEY / ORPHX: (CA)

For over fifteen years, Orphx has been creating a unique fusion of hypnotic rhythms and electro-acoustic music. Using an assortment of synthesizers, samplers, feedback systems, and various homemade instruments, Orphx combines the dark, experimental aesthetics of early industrial music with the pulse of techno, electro and dub.

The project began in 1993 as a trio, consisting of Richard Oddie, Christina Sealey and Aron West. The group began to explore a shared interest in experimental music, taking their name from the ancient Orphic cult. West left the group in 1995 to focus attention on noise project Tropism, while Oddie and Sealey began incorporating more rhythmic elements into Orphx, inspired by immersion in acid house, electro and minimal techno. Oddie and Sealey have since gained a substantial international following as one of the pioneering acts within the European "rhythmic noise" scene, while making increasingly strong connections with like-minded artists on the experimental fringes of techno. Oddie and Sealey have performed in numerous countries around the world and have collaborated on numerous audio/visual projects and exhibitions related to their musical output.

Orphx has released a number of influential albums and singles since the mid 1990s, combining elements of techno with rhythmic noise and electro-acoustic soundscapes. More recent releases have combined all of these approaches into new hybrids of synthetic / organic sound (Circuitbreaking, 2004; Insurgent Flows, 2005, Teletai 2008). Their recent Division 12" on Sonic Groove marks a new phase for the project, developing their unique sound and further blurring the boundaries between techno, dub and electro-acoustic music (featuring remixes by Surgeon and Chain Reaction / Scion Versions / Hardwax - DJ PETE).

Christie blew away a packed house at the Drake this past June supporting raster-noton founders alva noto & Byetone and will be playing two shows in Germany in late October.

      HEIKI: (CA / EE)

Heiki (Hey-Key) is a veteran of the Toronto electronic music scene. Since 1987, Heiki Sillaste has released an impressive catalogue of well over 45 synthesizer-based records and made over 150 compilation appearances.

Heiki began his musical career fronting the internationally acclaimed industrial-tekno group Digital Poodle in the late 80's and early 90's and ran the now famous Shadow Canada label. In 1995, he went on to co-found the respected electronic music label nice+smooth ultramedia, releasing music by Heiki's own groups Kinder Atom and Lazer Caps.

Heiki has just released his debut album as a solo artist. The 12 track 'Paper+Sound' album incorporates elements of techno percussion, ambient textures and deep dub basslines. It is released on his newly minted Paper+Sound label.

      KOLABORATOR: (CA / RS)

Kolaborator is a controversial product of split ideas between left and right, wrong and wright and good and not good.

The duality of the ideas create a blend of music, frequencies and appearances that produce beautiful discomfort among most of the audiences and consumers.

Pushing the envelope was always imperative for Kolaborator. From early days of collaboration with Laibach to todays' exploring of Ultra Violent Forms and Elements, his work conveys in one simple question and two possible answers:

Why Am I Here for You?
and You, Love Me or You, Love me Not.
