framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley

two edition of framework:afield to report on in this playlist - there was no show, you may or may not have noticed, on the 13th due to some special programming on resonance that day. Marcos' edition, therefore, also got an extra week on the stream, so hopefully you got a chance to catch that.

so the 6th featured marcos fernandes' edition of framework:afield (http://www.marcosfernandes.com), just in time for the anniversary of september 11th - it formed part of a project entitled ready for the revolution. in marcos' own words:

'it examines the dissenting voices of Activism in the US following the re-election of George W. Bush in November of 2004. the phonographies that comprise the source material for this piece were made during several peace rallies and anti-war marches during 2004 and 2006. this work's myriad manifestations will include sound installations, live performances (soundscape improvisations), a radio program (the framework show) and an audio CD. i find the broadcast date very appropriate for my piece.'

this week, the 20th, featured john hudak's edition of framework:afield (http://www.johnhudak.net). john says:

'the recording is three 19 minute segments. the first third is the original recording of crickets in my back yard, recorded on september 5, 2006, 2am. the second part is a half speed version, and the last is a quarter speed version. in this time of late summer, besides the sparrows, finches, cardinals, and downy woodpeckers during the day, the only other "big" sounds are coming from these crickets in the night.'

again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch!
