hello:

In this post I described (in not great detail, I must admit) how to detect
and record electromagnetic radiations
from a computer. Although not everyone will have a coil from a hard derive
actuator handy, it may be possible
to find an old telephone pick-up complete with suction cup. A guitar pickup
would also do the trick rather nicely.

A contact mic would also be handy to record mechanical sounds as well, I
suppose...
