kim, love that you made slashdot. :)

even if you haven't read his account yet, a lot of us are familiar with 
kim's switch from mac to ubuntu linux.

i think it could help get a lot of laptop musicians into opensource 
land, not to mention open doors to many who otherwise couldn't afford it.

personally i've just recently been introduced to ubuntu at work, it's my 
desktop now at the job. since kim and i have already chatted a bit about 
the system, i was actually pretty excited to get it running.

though almost wholly on the server side, i've been using linux for 
longer than i care to admit, and am very impressed with the way ubuntu 
has simplified things at the same time they've left the system open to 
customization and hackability - one of the reasons i also like Darwin/OSX.

the drawback to ubuntu being on my work computer is that i can't really 
do much sound on it, but i may invest in a netbook someday soon and am 
looking forward to trying out the linux audio tools.
