In this North American Premiere, Bretschneider applies his characteristic rigour to resurrecting an electronic artifact.<br><br> In 2007, Frank Bretschneider was invited to compose music for the Subharchord, a unique electronic “special effects” instrument developed during the 1960’s at the RFZ, the technical centre for radio and television of the East German postal service. Only eight were built and only three Subharcords are believed to survive to this day. <br><br> Seeking to blend the Subharchord’s sinister analog timbres with contemporary musical ideas, Bretschneider premiered these works in June 2007 in Berlin. Slightly editing the original live recording and adding new overdubs, Bretschneider created a compelling and flowing 37-minute version of Kippschwingungen for release on the Line label. He won’t be bringing the Subharchord to the Music Gallery (approximate weight: 100 kilograms) but will recreate his experiments to devastating effect accompanied by his own improvised visual accompaniment.<br><br> This concert also marks the world premeire of Michael Trommer and Nokami’s HTO — a reference to the chemical composition of water, as well as to Toronto’s nickname of ‘T.O.’. Via field recordings sourced from the city’s urban waterfront, buried rivers and vanished shorelines, HTO is a sonic exploration of Toronto’s water-related history. </div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"> </div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://www.facebook.com/events/313088102162926/">www.facebook.com/events/313088102162926/</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"> </div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://www.musicgallery.org">www.musicgallery.org</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://www.frankbretschneider.de">www.frankbretschneider.de</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://michaeltrommer.blogspot.ca/">http://michaeltrommer.blogspot.ca/</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://www.yatra-arts.com">www.yatra-arts.com</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://www.raster-noton.net">www.raster-noton.net</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"><a href="http://www.goethe.de/INS/ca/tor/enindex.htm">www.goethe.de/INS/ca/tor/enindex.htm</a></div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"> </div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed">AND</div><span itemprop="description"><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"> </div><span class="fsl"><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed">Thursday November 28 2013. 6PM</div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed"> </div><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed">Frank Bretschneider: workshop<br><br> Room 81015, Onsite at OCADU<br> 230 Richmond St. W.<br> FREE<br><br> Frank Bretschneider explains the relation between audio and visual and shows examples of how to use and connect hardware and software internally and externally via MIDI and/or audio.
