We lost our home of nine years last October due to eminent domain expansion of the LIRR, but now we’re back, with a better location, an 8000 square foot building, and the will to conquer. We’ve just signed a lease on a three-story mixed-use building (a former greeting card factory!) just two blocks north of Queens Plaza. When all’s said and done, we’ll have built a mixed-use art production, living, event, community, and gallery space with a communal wood shop, recording studio, screen printing facilities, a large gallery and a smaller project space, an open shared office, a cozy library, a modest speakeasy, regular events for the Queens arts community, and living quarters for between seven and ten Artists in Residence with private studios also available for rent. We need volunteers to help with all aspects of demolition and construction. Come ready to learn all about how to renovate a building using green techniques and recycled materials, or spend an afternoon showing off your superhuman sheetrock skills for a good cause. We’re also looking for administrative volunteers to help us with different aspects of running a sprawling non-profit, like alternative materials acquisitions, event production, mailings, and other fun office stuff. We’ll make you lunch, give you beer after you’re done with the sledgehammer, and have so much fun together.
