New releases from Bernhard Living week ending: 08.11.10.2014

[Composition 00065]
https://bernhardliving.bandcamp.com/album/composition-00065
[Composition 00065 is in three parts, with the sonic elements of each of part getting increasingly longer as the composition progresses, going from 128 bars for part one, 256 bars for part two, and finally, 788 bars for part three, which is slowly pulsating glitch drone. The sounds also get progressively quieter, less aggressive and more mysterious. The composition is entirely based on a sample of a Russian man shouting out, ‘В чем проблема’ (‘V chem problema’) (‘What’s the problem?’). The first group of sounds are like background chatter. The music is abstract, distant and remote, but comes from a realworld source, and is located within a realworld context.]

[Composition 00066]

[Composition 00066 is in two parts, with the first part using a single short sound that is repeated within eight bars of silence. Part two consists of a 788-bar drone that fades up until reaching half-way, and after peaking slowly fades down to the end. The sounds are both low in frequency and volume. This composition exists at the edge of perception, and is both there and not there at the same time.]

[Composition 00067]

[Composition 00067 is in two parts and was produced using frequency modulation synthesis. There is a base element that repeats for the two sections of the composition, and consists of single notes that repeat with slight changes of pitch. This ‘melody’ was caused by the movement of the synthesiser’s low frequency oscillator. In part two, the texture is thickened with the introduction of a 128-bar drone that slowly fades up and down. The second element sometimes obscures the first, with the first sound becoming audible as the second sound fades down. This was the caused by the fact that the sounds were in the same frequency range, and a certain amount of 'masking’ took place.]
