This is to let you know about a once-only show featuring some of foremost new-music pioneers of the Bay Area (or anywhere), as part of the unique ROOM Series, curated by voice and electronics diva Pamela Z, on Thu, 10 Jul.  You may find interesting if you'll be in the SF Bay Area next week.

A ROOM series evening often includes a groups of extremely varied artists of a certain instrument family, or curated around a specific theme, who each play solo works and also join together for ensemble improvisation or scored work.

This concert's special instrumental focus is the wonderful restored vintage-era upright piano (in a former life, also a player piano…) which has just come available in the space… in various unusual polyamorous matings with laptops, voice, small percussion… perhaps even musical saw, megaphone feedback, and the Vietnamese đàn bầu… andmaybe even an interlude of "piano 4-to-8-hands" insanity.

Tonight's line-up is unusually varied even for the ROOM Series, including: 

— brilliant new music pioneer SarahCahill: piano 

— 21st-century retro-Futurist crazy guy LucianoChessa: piano and/or voice, body lights, saw, đàn bầu, megafono

— JoeLasqo: piano, laptop, small percussion

— Maxareddu: algo's & event-grammars

— and of course, the indomitable Ms. Pamela Z, sporting a new generation of sophisticated wearable gestural controllers from the mad scientist labs of Donald Swearingen

I'll be surprised along with the rest of the lucky audience by the solo segments which Sarah, Luciano, and Pamela present in this show. For now these are still wrapped-up presents (except that I know Sarah Cahill will premier a new piece by Peter Garland and playing music of Luciano's)… Turning to my part of the program, I plan to present:

►Chōshi électro-acoustique   (電子音響の調子)
— elements from the oldest shakuhachi repertoire re-mapped onto piano + laptop

►Cyber Rengakai [Q]   (サイバー連歌会～急)
— Rengakai-methodology duets w my AI improvising associate, Maxxareddu, for piano + laptop (I usually do this duet improv form with humans, but tonight we opt for trans-humanism...)

►Sa-Z Chissà? in rāga Mandāri (ராகம்மந்தாரி)
— an acoustic Indo-modernist piece in condensed rāgam-tānam-pallavi formfor piano

Further, there will be interludes of free improv with my esteemed colleagues.

In lesser hands, the turbo-eclectisicm of this group of musicians might spin out of control; under the wearable-controller baton of Pamela Z, it will become a night-blooming sonic flower of rare alien beauty.
