EUROMicroFest 2013 Freiburg, Germany

“There are lots of outlets for music which uses microtones in the many
festivals and series which come under the banner of 'contemporary
music'. The idea of having a festival which is defined by
microtonality is to focus on those musics which cut across a wide
range of genres which do, or attempt to, use differently tuned pitches
to express a fresh emotional pallet. Whilst this may involve new
compositional systems the emphasis is on the music rather than the
systems although there is a channel - through open presentations – for
composers/theorists/instrument makers and designers to share and
demonstrate their ideas. Where practicable and possible, EUROMicroFest
may also include world music and/or historical music which is/was
motivated by unconventional approaches to pitch or towards theories of
expanding the conventional tonal system.”
