Interview with Rick Prelinger about home movies, alternative anthropology, lost landscapes and what he calls ?archival anxiety syndrome?. Link: http://bit.ly/PtTISd MP3: http://bit.ly/PwkTvH Rick Prelinger is an archivist, writer and filmmaker who lives in San Francisco, California. Founder of the Prelinger Archives and the Prelinger Library, and board member of the Internet Archive, Rick has spent years rescuing, digitising and disseminating thousands of home movie reels. Spanning the period from the first few decades of the 20th century ? when only the wealthy classes could afford the technology ?, to the post-war period in America and the proliferation of 8mm cameras, these films capture everything from the trivialities of everyday life to the wildest eccentricity. Through these silent testimonies of urban and human landscapes, Prelinger advocates an unconventional reading of recent history, which avoids unnecessary narratives and is full of surprises and unexpected clashes. The project will continue as an installation until Sunday evening. Regsnkov 2012 is a contemporary re-interpretation of David Tudor?s series of compositions from the 1970?s entitled Rainforest. It uses various types of sonic transducers to play live sounds through a selection of resonant, found-metal objects in the performance space. A matrix mixer allows the sound from any of the performers to be sent to any of the objects, creating an immersive, tactile and spatial sonic experience. The project is developed in a workshop format with up to 8 participants over a period of several days. The participants will work from the bio-acoustic model of an actual rainforest, where it is necessary for each species? survival that they can both hear and be heard within their own niche of the busy forest soundscape. We have received some particularly strong proposals for both papers and performances however decisions on the final programme won?t be made until after September 30th. If you missed the deadline, were on holidays etc. and are interested in submitting a proposal now is your chance. We are particularly keen to receive more paper proposals as we feel not all of the breadth and diversity that is networked performance is currently addressed in the proposals we have received. Papers that explore unusual interpretations of networked performance, emerging experimental practice, comparitive analysis of practice, an historical overview etc. are encouraged. Please find the call included below. ------------------------------------ Remote Encounters: Connecting bodies, collapsing spaces and temporal ubiquity in networked performance keywords: performance, networked, body, space, place, time, real, virtual URL: http://remote-encounters.tumblr.com/ :: Description :: Since the internet entered the public domain in the early 90's there has been an explosion in artistic interest in its use as a means, site and context for creative practice. Much of this practice is performative in nature; ether originating from a performance background and using the internet as a new site and/or augmenting aspect of that practice or is a form of practice developed as direct response to the internet and becomes performative to some degree in its spectatorship. It has been well established that the internet is not the first or only example of the use of a networked technology repurposed for creative practice. There is a clear time line that can be traced back through the practice of Roy Ascott and his coining of the term Telematic Art in the 1980's to artist's use of satellite networks, telephone and other telecommunication devices as each were invented. Seen in this respect the internet can be considered as one of many networked technologies that has enabled networked performance. The internet is unique however in that it is not a singular network type that favours a particular form of media, broadcast or spectatorship. Most famously known as the network of networks it enables multiple protocols of which the world wide web's http is just one, is multimedia in nature and encourages intertextual folding and layering of media, is multi-directional not simply a broadcast communication form, de-centralised in ownership and the majority of its technologies are openly accessible. Remote Encounters, a two-day international conference with performance evening, aims to explore the use of networks as a means to enhance or create a wide variety of performance arts. How do networks as a site for performance provide opportunities for us as artists and performers? In particular how can we remotely collaborate, merge geographically separate places and times, reconfigure the space of performance and the relationship between artist and audience? :: Call for papers and performances :: Contributions are invited from practitioners and academics for papers and performances that contextualise current networked performance themes and issues both historically and across the spectrum of different types of networks, explore the wealth of performance opportunities offered by the internet and give a sample of future directions for networked performance. Topics may include, but will not be limited to, the following: Bodies and identity: - Virtual identities and real bodies; - Self projection as other; - Hardware, software and wetware - networked bodies; - The female body and the remote gaze; - Gender and role play; - Robots and cyborgs. New sites, new narratives, new genre: - Networks as new sites of opportunism; - Networked spaces as new territories; - Transmedia storytelling, new narratives; - Mixed reality narratives; - Personal and private spaces as public venue; - First, second and third person narratives; - Intertextuality; The relationship between artist and audience: - Primary and secondary audiences, local and global; - Audience as performer; - Interactive performances and breaking down the fourth wall; - The transformation of audience to user; - Strategies and levels of engagement; - The network as a means for converging and collaborative practice. Tools and technologies: - Democratisation of form and presentation; - Subverting networked communication media; - Alternative and community based networks; - Tubes and streams, from public access television to webcasting; - Virtual worlds and video gaming; - Social networking as performance; - Pervasive and locative performance; - Physical interfaces and feedback; - Telephony and SMS messaging. We are particularly interested in live performance proposals, existing or new, that employ OpenSim and as such could take advantage of a large space provided by the organisers. In Paul?s research based compositions and installations he explores the extraneous sound event, the junk noises and extra, discarded sound materials from recordings, objects and the environment; in this Centenary themed installation he exploits the discarded sound reproducing devices which span the last century, many of which were found abandoned on the Crewe campus itself. The development of the music media machine and its carrier formats accelerated exponentially through the last century with mediums born and dying in ever increasing cycles until the object vanished entirely from view. Music now travels through time and space yet does not exist as a physical object. As a set of digital instructions awaiting to be decoded back into sound, music has become apparently transparent and can be seen to have shed it's impurities. This installation examines, reinstates and exploits those impurities which have evolved over the last 100 years. http://www.cheshire.mmu.ac.uk/centenary/schedule.php -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Although wallpaper is designed visually, we experience wallpapered rooms with all of our senses, and our memories are stimulated as much by sounds and smells as by sights; a cheery 1960s design might instantly remind someone of a coffee pot gurgling away on their granny?s stove, while the flowers in another design might instantly remind someone of sea-creatures or a relative who loved to garden. Personal associations which link place, memory and sound are the basis for Sonic Wallpaper; they are what allow us to move our imaginations between what we see, and what we hear. To make Sonic Wallpaper, I interviewed several people in November 2011, showing them various designs held in the collection of the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture. I then listened through to the interviews and collected field-recordings in response to what had been said about the different designs. I wanted to celebrate the specific way that people discuss their DIY plans, and to extend the fantasies of home-creativity using the medium of sound. When someone said ?that reminds me of church? I wanted to introduce the sound of that church, so that a third party ? a listener like you ? can hear and imagine the space. Think of the project as being like a sampler of sonic textures: a playful exploration of the question ?what would it be like, if we could decorate our homes with sounds?? For this framework:afield radio show, I have collaged the interviews and the sounds into a continuous stream of sound, and I hope that listening to the results will be a bit like flicking through a book of wallpaper designs with your ears, imagining where you might put them. I am curious to know how Sonic Wallpaper translates to radio: whether the old truism ?radio makes the best pictures? will be borne out here. I hope that browsing through these Sonic Wallpapers will give you a thoroughly new set of rooms to imagine ? rooms designed somewhere in the space between remembering, imagining, and listening. You can hear the individual sound pieces created in response to MoDA wallpapers on Soundcloud at soundcloud.com/modamuseum and you can read a little bit about the process at sonicwallpapers.blogspot.com. We are also in the process of publishing a book about the project which you will be able to buy at some point this Autumn, and I will be joining MoDA at the Knitting and Stitching Show this October to officially launch the project. I hope you have enjoyed listening to Sonic Wallpaper. Saturday will feature a lecture and sonic demonstration from the Creative Director of the Institute of Making at University College London, Zoe Laughlin. During this talk, Zoe will reveal how vibrations are transmitted through the microstructures of materials to create the sound of our world. The lecture room at Bethnal Green Library will be filled with the sound of kinetic sculptures constructed by artist Tom Slater from concrete, steel and copper, along side 8-speaker surround sound compositions by Jeremy Keenan & Matt Lewis. Do not miss this! *VARIATIONS, by Jon Leidecker* The idea of a completely original piece of music is fairly recent. Music was passed on through sound, through generations, even for centuries after the invention of written music. Only in the 14th century did it become standard practice for a composer to sign his name to a piece of music and claim it entirely as his own, giving rise to the cult of the individual composer. But as recording supplanted sheet music in the 20th century, the presence of communal influence became unavoidably obvious once again as composers began to use recordings to make new recordings. We can now hear the presence of more than one voice. And there is a reason why people don't say they listen to a record ? they say that they play a record. From the beginning, recordings have been instruments. *VARIATIONS #1. Transition* Podcast: http://bit.ly/KV8gXc Transcript: http://bit.ly/ggLzop *VARIATIONS #2. It also includes a lot of GUI stuff, to facilitate building things. Wanna the source? Here you go: https://github.com/marcodsad What is the Xth Sense? "**is a biophysical musical instrument. You can build your own and produce music with it using the sound of your muscles. It is free and open source, and it was named the ?world?s most innovative new musical instrument? by the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology (US, 2012). Its name is spelled ecsth sense (not tenth sense!). But it?s way easier to call XS." With the XS you can also control other software on your machine (video, audio, light systems, etc.), send Voltage output to hardware, or control a prosthetic arm. Hacks are encouraged by the design of the instrument itself. For some ideas see: http://res.marcodonnarumma.com/projects/xth-sense/#get-started We have a (newly born) user's forum, courtesy of Create Digital Music/Motion; the forum lives at: http://createdigitalnoise.com/categories/xth We are on also on Facebook (imagine!): http://www.facebook.com/XthSense if anybody works with it, let me know! The rise of the German home-recording tape scene, parts #1 and #2. Curated by Felix Kubin* In the late 1970s, the German music scene was shaken up by a virtual explosion of new bands that sounded radically different to anything that had come before. They played music that was experimental, playful, absurd, minimalist and astute, with lyrics that were sung ? or more commonly screamed ? exclusively in German. Appalled rather than enthralled by this new expressionism, the record industry initially showed no interest in these groups, so new platforms had to be set up in order to spread the virus. Small companies like ZickZack and Ata Tak started to release records by these young artists who were springing up like mushrooms. The independent record label was born. The spirit of this new movement ? later branded Neue Deutsche Welle ? emerged from a collision between the self-confident attitude of punk, the legacy of Germany's electronic avant-garde and a belief in the imminence of an atomic apocalypse. In his book "Als die Welt noch unterging" (When the world was still going to end), Frank Apunkt Schneider describes this despair as a joyful dance on the edge of the volcano, which is what underlies the unusual music that you will hear in these programmes. *Part #1: Mix* Link: http://bit.ly/n3aN7s MP3: http://bit.ly/gpqhyK Related info/playlist: http://bit.ly/R8aoEm Translated lyrics: http://bit.ly/MVOSev *Part #2: Interviews with Alfred Hilsberg (ZickZack Records) and Frank Apunkt Schneider* Link: http://bit.ly/oRtfAZ MP3: http://bit.ly/rkVaAy Related info/playlist: http://bit.ly/pQUAET Follow us at http://twitter.com/Radio_Web_MACBA -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Change plays a central role in music. Music develops into different phases, has a temporal structure of one sort or another, even a sustained waveform changes in some respect throughout its duration. We are working in the field of cinematic soundscapes with a high tolerance level of possible hi- fi disasters. Sentimental heartbreaking sequences where the opera singer is looping and the birds are singing backwards? until the breakdown of needles and chaos is taking over. Cut up and mistreated records looping and creaking from dust and sloppy treatment. Pick-up`s being pushed disrespectfully over grooves. records spinning backwards and forwards while played from multible pick-ups simultaniously. Meanwhile the lady in stilletoes just keep on walking down the stairs. Repetitive arrangements, dark sounds, neck breaking mixes, film-amateur sound effects, scratches, quieks, vinyls, terror and horror.? - SCREENING- Arturo Castro* *http://arturocastro.net/blog/ & Carolina Romano* * https://vimeo.com/carolerror - 3d models created with cinema 4d + custom software developed with openframeworks, fbxsdk and aubio - Commissioned animation with Music by Microseq (Pandelis Diamantides). We are looking after it and nurturing it in the hope that one day it will grow up to be big and strong. basic.fm stands for Broadcast Art, Sound and Independent Culture. It is a slow growing project; each month we add new features and work. -- About 128kbps -- The project 128kbps objects will look into contemporary notions of object-hood across a variety of artistic practices, mediums and sites, investigating the potentials of displaying objects sonically. It will take into considerations the characteristics of the web-tool employed, the internet radio, such as the erasure of visual language, the loss of direct interaction with artistic content, the relationship between speed and quality, for which, for instance, all the sonic data above quality threshold of 128 kilo bytes per second are cancelled out. How would an object manifest itself, be thought of, described or narrated when its inherent material quality are taken away, when the viewer is not confronted with its visual appearance? How can an art object be thought of in relation to the nature of its reception and social presence within the context of an internet radio broadcast? Many and varied are the discourses about the relationship between object-hood, medium and distribution, starting from Walter Benjamin's observations on mechanical reproductions, and many are the trajectories these discourses have opened up: from looking at base materiality to social interaction, from the aura of the work of art to the disappearance of medium-specificity. or-bits.com has invited an array of artists, new and already featured on its online exhibitions, writers, curators and organisations to create a work or represent an existing one in response to the above text. We also want to open up this project to other artists we don't know and we are looking for contributions that will reflect and expand on these themes, or question them. This is an unpaid opportunity. We look forward to receiving your contributions, or-bits.com and basic.fm -- Submission Guidelines -- Submission can be in the form of a sound work, music, a reading, a performance or an interview. They can be proposed to be broadcasted as a one-off or as a series to be presented at different times during the week of broadcast. If you are submitting/describing potential playlists, or excerpts of other artists' works, you will have to include a full list detailing name of artist, title of work, year and copyright holder, i.e. Distributor/record label (basic.fm holds PLL/PRS licences). Sound files should be in mp3 128kbps format. Deadline for submissions: 8 October 2012 Dates of broadcast: 22-28 October 2012 -- Submissions should be made via the basic.fm website: http://www.basic.fm/?page_id=1291 -- Link: http://www.basic.fm/?page_id=1291 From music.continue at gmail.com Wed Sep 19 06:40:14 2012 From: music.continue at gmail.com (continue music) Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2012 12:40:14 +0200 Subject: [microsound-announce] Continue Music # 1 Message-ID: Dear friends: We are proud to announce the beginning of ?Continue Music? a platform dedicated to the presentation of a series of sound works in cassette tape loop. Mix produced by Roc Jim?nez de Cisneros* Link: http://bit.ly/OEgBBb Related info: http://bit.ly/NBWQ1p MP3: http://bit.ly/Uj3GHu This is a collection of various strange bumpers that I used on my WFMU radio show, which ran from 1996?2010. Many of them became weekly signature sounds signifying for many listeners that it was time to turn off the radio for the next three hours. My show ? known variously over the years as 'Unpopular Music' or 'Anal Magic' ? was perhaps the most-hated show ever broadcast on WFMU. I have over a thousand bumpers, but for this podcast, I?ve selected about 40 of the best ones. Sometimes, I would do three hour radio shows, just stringing together one bumper after another. Most of these clips are of indeterminate origin, grabbed willy-nilly over the course of fifteen years, snagged from various LPs, cassette tapes, CDs and gems plucked from Napster. *Kenneth Goldsmith, 2012.* + info: >>MEMORABILIA. Final call for paper and performance proposals for the conference Remote Encounters: Connecting bodies, collapsing spaces and temporal ubiquity in networked performance, deadline 4pm, the 30th of September. Access to the forest floor is very difficult as there are no trails, however at the back of the lodge where I was staying there was a narrow old and decaying boardwalk that led, snake like, through the dense undergrowth and out into what felt like another world. Each morning for over a week I left my lodge around 0400h and set off carefully along a zig zag pattern of soft and splintered planks into the velvet darkness. Either side of the red glow from my head torch fireflies and other unknown bioluminescent insects blinked and flashed their alien languages whilst dead ahead the small piercing red reflecting eyes of hunting bats streaked, missile like, directly towards me. On several mornings my GPS guided me to a favourite looping curve at the furthermost point of the 2Km trail where I could stop and fix my mikes in a tree whilst trying to bat off the myriad host of mosquitos that quickly find anything warm blooded that is stationary. I rigged and set away the recording before quietly moving off, my ears straining to hear the distant songs of gibbons, the shrieks of macaques and the low whistle of a pitta. Sunrise, such as it is 30m below the canopy, is also accompanied by the slow drip of condensation percolating down through the grey green gloom from a canopy 30m above as the forest is slowly revealed. - Chris Watson Sunrise in the Sukau rainforest is published by Touch Music http://www.chriswatson.net to order your copy go to the framework website and donate ?20 or more via the donations bar on the right, or click the link below and do the same. we'll be in touch to confirm the best shipping address. copies of previous issues of framework:seasonal are also still available - donate ?20 or more per issue and let us know which ones you'd like! http://www.frameworkradio.net/donate -- ????????????????????????????????????????????? framework ????????????????????????????????????????????? :: http://www.frameworkradio.net :: info at frameworkradio.net :: :: http://www.facebook.com/frameworkradio :: http://www.frameworkradio.net/podcast :: http://www.frameworkradio.net/donate ????????????????????????????????????????????? :: tartu mnt 41 :: 63710 ahja :: p?lvamaa :: estonia ????????????????????????????????????????????? mailing list: http://eepurl.com/lQBOT From devel at thesaddj.com Sat Sep 22 14:29:20 2012 From: devel at thesaddj.com (Marco Donnarumma) Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2012 12:29:20 -0600 Subject: [microsound-announce] DMT - a trio of biophysical music, augmented drums, hacked smartphones at ISEA2012, ABQ, NM Message-ID: Dear all, we are thrilled to invite you to this upcoming concert at ISEA 2012: Wilderness, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The work utilizes sampling, found and/or environmental sound artifacts, field recordings, phonography, soundscapes, and acousmatic compositions. Less a work of a traditional radio narrative and more a work of transmission arts, Tell Me A Story about Meditation samples various sound media streams to create a remixed narrative of the moment, especially as it might be practiced through thoughtful (meditative?) listening. John F. Barber teaches in The Creative Media & Digital Culture Program at Washington State University Vancouver. With regard to sound arts, he is interested in opportunities afforded by Internet radio, online iReportage, transmission arts, and geo-locative audio-based immersive/interactive experiences, especially as they might promote aural compositions/performances/installations as the basis for engaged narrative. again, we are always looking for new material, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition, or introduction submissions. we are also now accepting proposals for full editions of our guest curated framework:afield series. send proposals or material, released or not, on any format, to the address at the bottom of this mail. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! ------------------------- Timeline and content descriptions 00:00-01:56 SFX sample from an episode of Breaking Bad, looped, with echo 1:50-01:28 Introduction 01:54-02:55 Sample mashup from "Audio Circus" radio show hosted by Eric Rosenheck and "Tell Me A Story" radio show hosted by Jim Weiss, Kid's Public Radio 01:54-02:12 "Ronzatore," a sample from a recreated intonarumori originally designed by Luigi Russolo and used in performances by him prior to World War II 02:11-55:00 Low denssfer very low frequency (VLF) sounds radio telescope recording 02:11-02:37 Sample from the 1913 poem "House Painter" by David Burliuk, from Disc 2, Track 18 of the collection Baku: Symphony of Sirens. Pastoral V.2, curated by Jon Leidecker * Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/curatorial/interruptions_1_jon_leidecker/capsula Playlist + text: http://rwm.macba.cat/uploads/20100706/01Interruptions_eng.pdf "Pastoral V.2" is a curated overview hoping to underline the history of those classic works of electronic and concr?te music which sought to mimic and extend the voices and sounds of our pastoral landscape, which can be closer to the heart of the medium's inherent potential than the more common identifications with inhuman or alienated expressions of industrial culture. The emerging medium of electronic music found its way to a wider public audience in the 1950's, accompanied by descriptions of the sounds as inherently unearthly, fantastic, or cold and inhuman. Partially this was in response to the medium's instant adoption as sound effects for science fiction films and television shows, as spearheaded by Louis and Bebe Barron in their score for the film "Forbidden Planet". But electronic musical instruments also possessed the ability to closely emulate and extend the voices of the animal world to a greater degree than any musical instrument in history. A gated tone oscillator or untempered synthesizer gives a player a better chance at creating melodies that sound like birdsong than any violin or flute ? save perhaps for a recording of a flute that's been sped up several octaves, using the techniques of musique concr?te. Subtle listening isn't listening attentively to barely audible sounds. Subtle Listening is the ability to hear sounds as shapes, contours and textures and, via meditation techniques, map them to internal states, developing a deeper awareness and sensitivity to the environment. During the workshop we will practice techniques culled from Jungian psychology, Hermetic philosophy, Rhythmanalysis, synesthesia, paradox & Buddhist mediation and brain entrainment. Subtle Listening is not just another meditation class, the workshop participants will work towards creating a sound art piece derived from their experiences in the workshop ? and there is a possibility of pieces being broadcast on radio. While the workshop is designed with developing one's auditory sense in mind any type of artist can participate. Whether you are a poet, writer, photographer, painter, filmmaker, dancer, musician or sound artist your work will benefit from a heightened, subtle sense of being connected to the world around you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Registration site: http://subtlelisteningnyc.eventbrite.com/ For more info: http://eyebeam.org/events/subtle-listening-inner-ear-training-for-the-sound-artist ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kim Cascone studied electronic music at the Berklee College of Music and privately at the New School in Manhattan. Once Upon a Time in CA, by Chris Brown (The Automatic League of Music Composers, The Hub...) Message-ID: *INTERRUPTIONS #2. Once Upon a Time in CA, by Chris Brown (The Automatic League of Music Composers, The Hub...) * A spaghetti western about experimental music on the West Coast in the 1980s. Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/curatorial/interruptions_chris_brown/capsula Related info/playlist: http://rwm.macba.cat/uploads/20110118/02Interruptions_eng_PDF.pdf Just as the struggle for the Western U.S. in the late 19th century revolved around the construction of the railroad, the struggle for global domination was waged around the development of the new electronic communication technologies during the late 1970s and 1980s in Silicon Valley. It was a free-wheeling time for start-ups run out of garages by a bunch of do-it-yourself geeks and venture capitalists. Hanging around its edges and feeding off the surplus of its aircraft and electronics industries, a gaggle of music experimenters were dreaming of a future where technology might enable new kinds of musical freedom ? freedom from orchestras and scores, freedom from scales and temperament, freedom from the academy, freedom from the music business, and, most of all, freedom for noise. Free improvisation was the lingua franca where jazz musicians, junk percussionists, instrument inventors, and computer hackers could come together to play. It was within this rag-tag musical stew that six idealist musicians, seduced into computer programming, connected their primitive 8-bit microcomputers into a network in search of complexly beautiful, automated behaviors. They were inspired by the home-brew orchestra of Harry Partch, the indeterminacy of John Cage, the electronic noise of David Tudor, with side helpings of the mysterioso of Captain Beefheart and the sonic ritual of Sun Ra. Living within a hippie backwash nirvana philosophy but confronted by the reality of wars launched from their own backyards into El Salvador and Nicaragua, their music was a quixotic swords-into-plowshares fantasy morphing uncontrollably into shouts of joy and rage. Lest there be any doubt that this was still the Wild, Wild West, in 1978 one politician climbed through a window into San Francisco's City Hall carrying a loaded handgun, shot its mayor and recently elected gay supervisor pointblank, and was later acquitted of first-degree murder for both crimes based on the 'Twinkie' junk-food diminished capacity defense. The AIDS epidemic emerged to cut a swath through the arts community, fueling both its paranoia and intensity. The Disney cult lured ever in the background, an implacable siren of pop. Still, the beauty of chaos remained a passionate quest that promised an escape from too much control, and not enough nature. Can musical life arise from industrial waste? Does harmony exist within the interactive chatter of cane reeds, bronze rods, computer algorithms, and resonating streams of electrons? This podcast presents one insider participant's movie of this once-upon-a-time musical scene. Excerpts from public performances, home and garage recording sessions, and parking lot sound installations are mingled like so many strands of pasta, sprinkled with bits cheese from a Sergio Leone soundtrack to provide epic flavor. Moments of coincidence among impossible sonic bedfellows created the sauce. The recipe for this California home-grown dish can be found here. *Chris Brown* * * *Follow us at http://twitter.com/Radio_Web_MACBA* -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The first is called science, for which mathematics provides the necessary tools, and the second is called art. This talk attempts to explain my personal artistic vision built upon mathematics and science, covering topics of curved space, symmetry groups, and aesthetic designs; order, chaos and noise. ## 'clive' performance ~30mins 'C' is one of the original programming languages used to develop the UNIX family of operating systems, and is still in common use today. 'JACK' is a library for connecting sound making programs together. 'Live-coding' is writing and changing program code while it is running, to adjust the rules of the game while the game is being played. 'clive' is an environment for live-coding JACK DSP loops in C, expect micro clicks evolving into textured drones and chaotic noise. ## bio Claude Heiland-Allen is a London artist starting his 32nd orbit around our Sun working in all media available to him at the moments that time allows. Early work in proprietary software environmments left him unfulfilled and in the mid-2000s he joined the loose Openlab collective and the close GOTO10 family to engage with Free Software. Using existing solutions still wasn't enough, and he started writing his own homebrew custom software to fully express his artistic vision of mathematics and science based art. Since the passing of GOTO10 in 2012 and a brief stay in psychiatric hospital, he's realized that there's a whole lot more to life and living than tinkering with technology, and the "old ways" of paper and pencil still have a lot of potential. This heavy hitting night of dark experimental techno features a live a/v performance by raster-noton co-founder and internationally acclaimed German producer BYETONE - who will present his latest 'Symeta' set - and the long awaited Toronto debut of Belgian minimal techno legend PETER VAN HOESEN. The Time to Express label boss and creator of 2010's highly lauded 'Entropic' City (PVH) is currently touring in support of his newest release 'Perceiver'. Elegant, beautiful, delicate and graceful. Causeyoufair creates timeless motifs that appear suspended in space. Exquisite reverberation tales that resound with emotionality. The music encourages the listener to become completely immersed within a state where dreams, hidden memories and nostalgia can be visited. Some of you may already know this work from the audiomoves label where it originated. That label is closing down with audiomoves to focus on distribution and music licensing.
