For more information, look up http://puredata.info/community/organization/pd-berlin/pd-berlin-users-group. We also encourage you to take an active part, and put up suggestions for topics you want to talk about / topics you want to be talked about. Pd-Berlin Google group: You can join the open group http://groups.google.com/group/pd_berlin, and make questions to the users there. Doors are open from 20h-20h15. After that they'll be closed, and you will have to call someone from the Pd-meeting to get in. To get a telephone number to call or confirm assistance you can write to info_at_minitronics.net. Please, don?t call to the staff of NK to open the doors. They let us use the space but we have to take care about having the meeting without producing any disturbance to them, and to clean the space after the meeting. We would apreciate if you would send us a small mail to info_at_minitronics.net with your name, Pd experience and interests, so that we know how many people might be coming. Or put your name in the pd-berlin wiki page. We would like to thank the support and willingness of NK in the organization of these events. Message-ID: Interview with writer, teacher and theorist Mark Fisher about crisis, insurrection, popular music and Really Existing Capitalism. Link: http://bit.ly/xWWUv1 *Mark Fisher* is a writer, teacher and theorist living in Suffolk, England. His k-punk blog has been a well respected resource for cultural analysis on the web since its launch in 2003. In 2009, he published his first book, 'Capitalist Realism', where he explores the widespread sense that not only is capitalism the only viable political and economic system, but also that it is now impossible even to imagine a coherent alternative to it. In it, Fisher analyses the role of the media, the education system, the link between Neoliberalism and brain chemistry, and what he calls business ontology 'in a world in which internment camps and franchise coffee bars co-exist.' In this podcast we feature an interview with him about crisis, insurrection, popular music and the concept of Really Existing Capitalism. J?RG BARILETTI (CH) Acoustic-lab.-top-mobile http://www.myspace.com/bariletti The swiss pianist and sound artist J?rg Bariletti was born and raised in 1968 in the Alps. He worked as a theater and film composer, conductor of improvisation workshops... and since 2000 lives and works as musician and piano tuner in Berlin. Increasingly, he is concerned with self-made electro-acoustic instruments, which now include his new sculpture designed "acoustic-lab.-top-mobile". Designed and constructed primarily from recycled materials tool as a magic box, a multi-functional toy box combining the superimposed intertwines electroacoustic parodies and blasting sounds into noisy and beautiful environments full of colors and musicality. This battery-operated with lighting provided, sets the sound sculpture on a specially modified workbike mounted, which is also integrated together musically and a self-mobile, self-powered and ecological synthesis of the arts and forms. The mobile is in Berlin and occur on roads, parks, galleries, bars, movie theaters and smaller venues in action... 2. ELS VANDEWEYER (BE) | Vibraphone http://www.ausland-berlin.de/els-vandeweyer Els Vandeweyer is a Belgian vibraphonist & composer currently living in Berlin, where she explores the middle-ground between classical, jazz and free improvised music. In Portugal she co-founded the IMI Kollektief quintet. In Oslo she worked with Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love. In Chicago performing by invitation with Ken Vandermark, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Kent Kessler, Tim Daisy and Jeff Parker among many others. With her new repertory of compositions, combined with improvisations, Els can bring you in a remarkable sound world, far removed from that associated with a vibraphone by making use of different kind of preparations. These preparations include different types of gloves, distortions and sticks. The result is reather flowing and energetic than abstract. "Unafraid of tradition, the IMI Kollektief mines rich territory with Vandeweyer's vibes evoking the experimental zeal of the more adventurous 1960's Prestige and Blue Note sessions." ? Part I* Link: http://bit.ly/A7u1SG MEMORABILIA. COLLECTING SOUNDS WITH? seeks to break through to unearth and reveal private collections of music and sound memorabilia. It is a historiography of sound collecting that reveals the unseen and passionate work of the amateur collector while reconstructing multiple parallel histories such as the evolution of recording formats, archiving issues, the collecting market and the evolution of musical styles beyond the marketplace. Dutch collector Ed Veenstra collects all kinds of music-objects by plastic artists (a total of around 3,500) who have worked with sound at some point in their careers. Records, but also what he calls Anti-records, strange, impossible and unclassifiable formats that approach the object from a radically different perspective and exceed the traditional functions of the medium. His thorough and detailed collection and classification work sheds light on the art world's fascination with sound and music. Barber had created in Yokohama (Japan) in 2005. American composer, improviser and sound artist Joel Peterson performed them live at INCA, Detroit, in January 2012. We talked to him about the challenges of graphic notation and other related issues. Joel Peterson is a musician, composer, sound artist based in Detroit, MI. Peterson's work encompasses many styles and traditions ?free improvisation, through composed art music, ethnic folkloric, rock, experimental, jazz and early music. As a composer, he developed his craft by seeking composers and musicians whose work he admired, starting with locals like Faruq Z. Bey and Frank Pahl, and engaging in practical music making with them. His work with his ensembles, collaborators and guest appearances can be heard on dozens of CDs, LPs and cassettes, on independent labels like Qbico, Sagittarius A Star, Edgetone, Schoolkids Records, Phonetic Records, Acidsoxxs Musicks and others. + info: QUADERN D'?UDIO #2. The exhibition aimed at changing or rather challenging our habitual perspectives, raising the question of what happens when we avoid ordinary ways of viewing. The sound installation Adolar is inspired by a view into the night sky. The basic structure was derived via specific relationships between stars and the earth. Data, such as the brightness or the distance of the stars, was transferred to diverse musical parameters and processed on various audio channels. Due to the fact that the audio loops being played into- and coming back from the room consist of different lengths, new constellations of sounds are continuously evolving, or rather the material is continually illuminated in new ways. Whilst spatialisation serves the purpose of focusing on the viewing direction, it is also intended for the viewer to move about the room in order to being able to react to the situation he is confronted with, thereby further adding to the experience of a variety of different perspectives. The objective is to enlarge the space acoustically and to create both more and less nuanced sound patterns simultaneously. adolar: http://www.gruenrekorder.de/?page_id=6861 Harald Guenter Kainer: http://www.gruenrekorder.de/?page_id=6856 Gruen Digital //Exclusive download edition. http://www.gruenrekorder.de/?page_id=4801 Sound Art Series by Gruenrekorder Gruenrekorder / Germany / 2012 / GrDl 105 / LC 09488 New Arrivals: PLACES_IN_TIME Series by Manfred Waffender http://www.gruenrekorder.de/shop/#GrD_19 From aspnews at astrangerparadise.com Wed Mar 21 07:51:00 2012 From: aspnews at astrangerparadise.com (A Stranger Paradise) Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2012 12:51:00 +0100 Subject: [microsound-announce] =?utf-8?q?A_Stranger_Paradise_=3A_=2316_Oct?= =?utf-8?q?aedre_Resonant_-_Les_Vo=C3=BBtes_-_Paris?= Message-ID: <9c1083d928063068bc13f79dd53ec396@A Stranger Paradise> This email contains graphics, so if you don't see them, view it in your browser ( http://astrangerparadise.com/index.php?option=com_acymailing&ctrl=archive&task=view&mailid=20&key=53c205d82f8bfcd27540dab3c5186753&subid=5339-1186e35c7c503426c478657d461f1276 ). Saturday, 31.03.2012, 11.00 - 19.00 (with break) @ LEAP A one day workshop by Fredrik Olofsson about generating strange graphics in the audio programming language SuperCollider. The idea is to not care much about how the code we write actually sounds or works, but rather that it looks cool graphically. We will deliberately perform odd math operations to mess up the audio signals and explore and abuse the scope, plot and post windows as well as draw custom waveforms and spectrograms. The level of the workshop will not be too advanced and there is no need to be a fluent SuperCollider programmer to make interesting visuals. Bring your own headphones and a laptop with SuperCollider (3.4 or 3.5, http://supercollider.sourceforge.net/) installed. If you have trouble installing this software please come half an hour early and we will help. Workshop language is english. REGISTRATION Workshop: Please send an email until 27.03.2012 with subject "Good Looking sounds" to workshops at leapknecht.de. The number of participants is limited to 15 places. The participation fee is 25? per person and must be paid by 29.03.2012 at the latest. After e-mail registration you will receive an email with payment information. The third edition of the BodyControlled series presents a group of performing artists using diverse feedback procedures as a motor for their performance work. Known mostly as the result of an audio loop between a microphone and a speaker, feedback can be a powerful and dynamic creative tool in both visual and sound performances. Each of the artists in BodyControlled #3 uses feedback in a personal way (and at a different level in the processing chain) to either shape their sounds and images, or to create a ? relatively ? controlled dialogue between them and their instruments. All performances will be available from 20h CET via livestream on http://bit.ly/uXRgyq. Space, curated by Mark Fell and Joe Gilmore Message-ID: *COMPOSING WITH PROCESS: PERSPECTIVES ON GENERATIVE AND SYSTEMS MUSIC #6.1. Space, curated by Mark Fell and Joe Gilmore * Link: http://bit.ly/H3hWzb The sixth episode in the series considers the relationship between process-based music and space. It explores how musicians and composers have used acoustic space as an active element in music composition. Some historical precedents, such as Tibetan and medieval chanting, are included; acoustic space has not only been explored externally, but also internally, as physiological space. We look at several examples of music which explore these principles, including: Austrian composer Peter Ablinger's exploration of acoustic space using silence and noise; and Italian composer Agostino di Scipio's 'Audible Eco-Systems' which explore the real-time interaction between digital signal processing (DSP) and the space in which it is located. The show closes with two performative works which differ in their approach: '495, 63' by Yasunao Tone and Carl Michael von Hausswolff's freq_out project.
