Ferrari and A.Bosetti about Farrari's influence on their work. Musik geschlagen. I hope you enjoy & thank you for your support & if you have the time and inclination let me know what you think. Home Normal Release Page: http://www.homenormal.com/releases/autistici-amplified-presence Reviews & Videos @ Autistici: http://www.autistici.com/amplified-presence.htm THE MILK FACTORY REVIEW Following releases on 12K, Keshhhhhh Recordings and his own Audiobulb imprint, David Newman has settled down at Home Normal for his third album proper. Right from Volume Objects, released over three years ago, Newman has worked at creating incredibly detailed miniature soundscapes from field recordings and electronics, and, while the Detached Metal Voice and Slow Temperature collections of early material released last year showcased quite a different side of his work, this is once again the feature of Amplified Presence. Over the course of this album, Newman expands quite drastically on the concept he developed on both Volume Object and Complex Tone Test by refining it much further. He has a knack for creating extremely detailed and intricate soundscapes and making them sound so extremely effortless and effective, simply by wrapping them in beautifully crafted little melodies, and he does so with brio here. Whether it is with the gentle atmospheric tones of Automated Night Light, the bleep-heavy Attachment Type or the harder edge of Tower Location, melodies are at the heart of his compositions, and binds them together. But it is ultimately with sound that he is most at ease. While deeply electronic, there is something quite pastoral and organic about this whole album, in part thanks to the way he processes acoustic sounds and field recordings into his compositions and incorporating them into his sonic palette by maintaining most of their natural aspect, yet often using them in unusual ways. Newman creates here a fascinating world built around dreamy soundscapes, some so utterly delicate and fragile that they threaten to shatter at the tiniest sparks of density (Automated Night Light, A Bed Of Powdered Glass, Field13), other sturdier (Sixteenth, Slow Rotor Sensory Loop) and more playful (A Religion Of Water And Air, Attachment Type, Tower Location). Each piece is like a self-contained universe, with its own set of climates, sonic spaces and tones, sometimes deployed into a succession of tiny vignettes which, although appearing to work independently from each other, are in fact intricately linked. This is perhaps most obvious on A Religion Of Water And Air or Tower Location, where their respective various sections are clearly distinct, but this is found elsewhere on the record albeit in much more subtle forms. Amplified Presence has however a very strong sonic identity of its own, and one that is very consistent throughout. This has alway been one of Newman's strength with his records, yet it feels as this is taken to an entirely new level here. If Newman calls upon a vast sound palette for this album, he is careful to retain an overall feel for the entire album. As a result, this is undoubtedly his most accomplished and impressive record to date, and definitely one not to miss. BOOMKAT REVIEW Deft, detailed electronica from David Newman's Autistici project, probably one of Home Normal's finest releases this year. 'Amplified Presence' is a fine study on space and placement, using a menagries of sound objects - piano, cracklebox, mellotron, cutlery, violin, field recordings, vocals and much more - to create cutely kinetic spaces filled with naif melodies and scuttling, strangely organic rhythms which use every inch and angle of his sound sphere in imaginative ways. During that period, Sala defined and began developing a project that orbits around number 11, a cipher he has shared a particular relationship with since the day he was born on November 11 1978, now (practically) 33 years ago. The project deals with chance, intuition and numerology, using graphic art and abstract sound to create, in Arnau?s own words, ?a super-element derived from 11 independent elements / pieces ? in this case loops? to be cut in 11 vinyl records. During the last few months, Sala has continued working in this project. Thanks to the collaboration between l?ull cec, Canad? and the label Fauni Gena, 11 vinyl records have been made. These will only be used together on the night of the performance, on 11 November. Afterward, each of the 11 records will follow its own path. Each record has been individually cut by hand and contains 11 tracks. Each of these 11 tracks ends in a locked groove. In other words, when the needle reaches the end of the track it gets trapped in an infinite loop and the recording continues repeating itself ad infinitum until one takes the needle and repositions it elsewhere on the record. It is thus a mechanical loop, 1.8 seconds in length when the speed of reproduction of the turntable is set at 33 1/3 revolutions per minute. Here you will find more information about the project: [ http://lullcec.org/en/2011/residencies/residencia-02-arnau-sala ] This coming Friday, we will present the results of this long process in a unique and unrepeatable live performance that will also have an installation component. During his intervention, Arnau Sala will combine the loops and explore the possibilities offered by 11 turntables and some mixers as his only tools. The evening will start at 22:00h with DJ Zero. The live performance will begin at 23:00h. Friday 11.11.2011, 22:00h 22:00h: DJ Zero 23:00h (sharp): live performance by Arnau Sala Almog?vers, 68-70 (8a planta). Metro Poble Nou Barcelona. Message-ID: *Interview with american composer Ari Benjamin Meyers about "1395 Days without Red" and some aspects of his work in general* Link: http://bit.ly/syGq1L Ari Benjamin Meyers is a Berlin-based composer, orchestra director and artist. He has recently composed the soundtrack for the film "1395 Days without Red", by ?ejla Kameri? and Anri Sala. Far from being a one-off oddity, his involvement in this project is a clear sign of his transversal approach to creation in which collaboration as a modus operandi is paramount. In spite of his classical training, Ari participates in initiatives as diverse as a post-hardcore band called Celan and joint projects with musicians such as Thomas Fehlmann and Einst?rzende Neubauten, which are often more conceptual than musical in the traditional sense. It will take place at the Department of Music, University of Edinburgh, during the first half of 2012. We invite inventors of new musical instruments to submit examples of their work. These will be displayed online, creating a public archive of new electronic instruments. The submissions will be reviewed by a group of upcoming and established postgraduate composers, at the University of Edinburgh. The composers will each select an instrument by way of a voting process. Over a three month period they will compose a new work for the instrument and professional ensemble, assisted through close communication with the inventor. The compositions will be performed in a concert of new music, Edinburgh, in 2012. We invite submissions of new digital or electronic instruments for Inventors Composers Coaction 2012, an interdisciplinary collaborative project and concert. These will be reviewed by participating composers, at the University of Edinburgh, who will be able to vote for three instruments in order of preference. Inventors of the selected instruments will be provided with one night's accommodation in Edinburgh in order to attend the event (April 2012 - to be confirmed), as well as a small contribution towards travel costs. Selected participants may be invited to present a short talk on one aspect of their creative practice. Instruments may be: - purely software (e.g. built in Max/MSP, Supercollider, Pd) - augmented instruments, including software, sensors etc. - mobile devices that make use of smartphone technology - novel hardware devices, repurposed controllers, NIMEs etc. - may involve spatialisation techniques. Please see http://www.inventorcomposer.net for submission details. Deadline 6th January 2012. -- www.laurensarahhayes.com* * -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Active on the fringes of a variety of music scenes since the late 1980s, Reptilicus has incorporated percussion, dada experimentation, noise and acoustic instrumentation to push the boundaries of electronic music and "Initial Conditions" is the next step in their evolution. To celebrate this occasion and as part of the Iceland Arts Festival, Yatra Arts The Goethe-Institut Toronto and Toronto Best Party have organized a gala event featuring a one-night only performance by Reptilicus on Friday, November 18th. Supporting Reptilicus for this show will be Raster-Noton recording artist Senking, the dubby and darkly cinematic project of Jens Massel, a rising star in the world of German electronic music, whose remix of "Initial Conditions" is also featured on the 7" and the critically acclaimed Icelandic sound artist R?nar Magn?sson. Rounding out the bill will be Canada's own Orphx, an electronic duo active since the early 1990s and known across North America and Europe for their characteristically edgy techno sound. Toronto electronic music pioneers Heiki and Huren will be on hand as DJs. This event promises to be a unique and memorable experience for all in attendance with some North American & Canadian debuts! The show takes place at Nocturne, 550 Queen St. W at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, or $17, which includes a copy of the "Initial Conditions" 7" record. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Cotrone by Fura dels Baus? founder Marcel?l? Ant?nez Roca is a an interactive performance inspired by Pirandello?s Mountain Giants. Made up of interactive videos and enhanced embodied technologies, the work is anyhow rooted in a delirant, almost archaic imagery. Following Marcel?l? pathway, Arsenale delle Apparizioni sees the light. Entirely made of sampled sounds from found objects, domestic percussions, toy instruments, with the inclusion of lo-fi audio devices, Arsenale delle Apparizioni traces out a map between Rhythm and Algorhitm in an unavoidable match between primeval and contemporary feelings, providing a clear example of a unique aesthetic applied to music and sound. Artist Details http://vimeo.com/22671138 Originally an electric bass player, his work as a composer is mainly focused on algorithmic methodologies, indifferently in the electro-acoustic and in the instrumental domain. His compositions have been performed at Logos Foundation and commissioned by OSN Rai of Torino. He has worked with multimedia installations, with film music, and recently with theater (Cotrone, by Marcel?l? Antu?ez Roca, 2010). With the AMP2 improvisation collective he appears on the album Hopeful Monster (Die Schachtel, 2010). His Rumentarium/Objectarium (2009-) project is dedicated to the exploration of acoustic computer music, in which the computer controls an electro-mechanical ensembles. A researcher at the University of Torino, he teaches Computer music. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Hello Microsounders, I would like to invite anyone in the New York area to attend a wild evening of live music + cognitive science show n tell, on November 29th at Issue Project Room. The event is toward my ongoing film, Music of the Hemispheres. The film is an investigation into philosopher Dan Lloyd's theory that consciousness operates within a musical structure. A working hypothesis he has formulated through taking fMRI generated brain data and converting it into musical scores. Read more about the film here: http://elisadaprato.com/music-of-the-hemispheres This night commences our first custom, experimental neuro-scientific study specifically playing with musical imagination, generating data sets to be rendered musically live on this night. See complete event description below, and read more about the event here: http://www.issueprojectroom.org/2011/11/07/music-of-the-hemispheres-a-live-music-film-and-science-event/ I hope you can join us. Cheers, Elisa ---- *MUSIC OF THE HEMISPHERES* A Live Music, Film, and Science Event Tuesday, November 29, 8:00pm at Issue Project Room. $15 (232 3rd St, 3rd Floor, Gowanus, Brooklyn) A multi-sensory film + art + science extravaganza, the idea for which originates in the work of neuro-philosopher Dan Lloyd, whose research focuses on taking patterns found in brain activity and converting them into musical scores. These scores are not biofeedback or music cognition experiments, but rather, they extract the ?architecture of consciousness,? as it occurs in the brain, and assign its varying components musical tones. The result is musical scores meant to reflect brain activity itself. Through this, Lloyd found that recognizable musical structures emerge, and he thus formulated a theory that consciousness operates within a musical structure?or rather, that music is an expressive interpretation of how our brains work. Aaron Einbond is a composer and music theorist whose work centers on the exploration of timbre space. He has developed a beautiful and provocative compositional method of transcribing naturally occurring sound environments, such as a rainstorm, caf?, or covered passageway, and creating musical transcriptions for live instrumentation intended to place the listener in the midst of a virtual space of sound simulating an immersion in timbre space*.* What if the space simulated were not of a passageway or rainfall, but rather the human mind? Thus, a unique and musical fMRI experiment has been formulated through a collaboration between Lloyd, Einbond, neuroscientist Zoran Josipovic, and filmmaker Elisa Da Prato, wherein a subject was prompted to imagine and listen to the very same sound samples used in Einbond?s technique. Sound artist Maria Chavez has offered herself as subject, and mind as instrument through which Lloyd will present a piece of *Brain Music* representative of her cognitive experience. This to be followed by live performance by piano and percussion quartet Yarn/Wire, who will perform two pieces: Einbond?s * Passagework*, created with the aforementioned technique, and a new interpretation of bio-music pioneer Alvin Lucier?s *Memory Space*, a score instructing performers to improvise while listening to recordings of outside spaces. The evening will open with a short film, directed by Elisa Da Prato, who initiated the event and is currently working on a feature-length film examining Dan Lloyd?s Mind As Music theory. The short film will break down the various compositional techniques employed, the documentation of Chavez?s brain scans, and the premise of Lloyd?s theory. Da Prato states her goal is to create a seamless submersion into a rabbit hole of different layers of cognitive neuroscience, philosophy of mind, compositional process, and musical experience?to experience the transmission of the same source material through the various mediums of notated composition, improvisation, and the human mind and dually the transubstantiation of person into music. The Evening?s Schedule: 1. Short Film by Elisa Da Prato, surveying the players, and theories. 2. Dan Lloyd?s presentation of subject Maria Chavez?s ?Brain Music.? 3. Yarn/Wire performance of *Passagework* by composer Aaron Einbond for two prepared pianos and two percussionists. 4. Yarn/Wire and Aaron Einbond on live electronics to perform Alvin Lucier?s *Memory Space.* 5. Q&A with panel mediated by filmmaker Elisa Da Prato: philosopher Dan Lloyd, neuroscientist Zoran Josipovic, composer Aaron Einbond, subject Maria Chavez. Total running time of event approximately 75 minutes. *DAN LLOYD* is Thomas C. Brownell Professor of Philosophy and a faculty member of the Neuroscience program at Trinity College, Connecticut. He is the author of *Radiant Cool: A Novel Theory of Consciousness* (Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press, 2004) and *Simple Minds* (Cambridge, MA: The MIT Press, 1989). His current projects include *Ghosts in the Machine* (Rowan and Littlefield, forthcoming), a philosophical drama about minds, brains, and computers, and *Subjective Time* (The MIT Press, forthcoming), an anthology on the philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience of experienced temporality. He was the first recipient of the ?New Perspectives in fMRI Research Award? (given by the fMRI Data Center and the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience), and recently received a Fulbright Fellowship for research and teaching in Helsinki, Finland. In the 2010-2011 academic year he was a visiting scholar at Nankai University in Tianjin, China. His work on ?Mind as Music? appears in the open source journal *Frontiers in Psychology*. *AARON EINBOND*?s work explores the intersection of composition, computer music, music perception, field recording, and sound installation. He was born in New York in 1978 and has studied at Harvard, the University of Cambridge, the University of California Berkeley, and IRCAM in Paris. His teachers have included Mario Davidovsky, Julian Anderson, Edmund Campion, and Philippe Leroux. From 2009?2011, he was Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Music at Columbia University. Recent and upcoming projects include a Concertare 2011 commission for Ensemble Recherche and the Freiburger Barockorchester and a Fromm Commission for Ensemble Dal Niente. *ZORAN JOSIPOVIC, PhD*, is a Research Associate and an Adjunct Professor in the Psychology Department and Center for Neural Science, New York University. His research focuses on the effects of meditation and other contemplative techniques on the brain, and on what these effects can tell us about the nature of consciousness. Zoran is a long-term practitioner of meditation in the nondual traditions of Dzogchen, Mahamudra, and Advaita Vedanta. He has also worked as a psychotherapist and a bodyworker and has taught meditation at Esalen Institute for many years. *YARN/WIRE* is a quartet of two percussionists and two pianists. This instrumental combination allows the ensemble flexibility to slip effortlessly between classics of the repertoire and more modern works that continue to forge new boundaries. Founded in 2005, Yarn/Wire is admired for the energy and precision they bring to vital performances of today's most adventurous music. The results of Yarn/Wire?s collaborative initiatives are pointing towards the emergence of a new and lasting repertoire, and partnerships with genre-bending artists such as Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf and David Bithell have led to the creation of work that is ?spare and strange and very, very new.? (Time Out NY) *MARIA CHAVEZ*?s* *sound installations and live performances have focused on the paradox of time and the present moment, with many influences stemming from improvisation in contemporary art. Her work has been recognized by the Jerome Foundation, which awarded her the Emerging Artist Grant by New York?s Roulette Intermedium in 2008. In 2009, she became a recipient of the Van Lier Fellowship, which is generously offered to young sound artists by The Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund of the New York Community Trust. She has traveled extensively, sharing the stage with Pauline Oliveros, Thurston Moore, Lydia Lunch, Phil Niblock, and Otomo Yoshihide to name just a few. She has performed in venues including the Contemporary Arts Museum in Bordeaux, France; the Akademies der Kunste in both Vienna and Berlin; and Sonoteca in Lima, Peru. *ELISA DA PRATO* is a filmmaker exploring music, sex, and science in various incarnations of short form, experimental, documentary, and narrative work. She edited the documentary film *Keep Dancing*, which was featured in several festivals internationally. Her work was screened at various venues and galleries in NYC, including Invisible Dog Gallery, Issue Project Room, Market Hotel, and Zero Film Fest, and has been featured with such outfits as K Records, East Village Radio, La Blogoth?que, Index Magazine. She is a featured regular artist on The Black Harbor.com. Da Prato is currently directing a non-fiction feature-length film examining the potential musical structure of consciousness, and curating live music/cinema events challenging that theory. She also directs an ongoing project of motion picture portraiture, and has performed once as a stand-up comedian. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Developed by the workshop teacher Marco Donnarumma within a research project at The University of Edinburgh, Xth Sense is a framework for the application of muscle sounds to the biophysical generation and control of music. It consists of a low cost, DIY biosensing wearable device and an Open Source based software for capture, analysis and audio processing of biological sounds of the body (Pure Data-based). Muscle sounds are captured in real time and used both as sonic source material and control values for sound effects, enabling the performer to control music simply with his body and kinetic energy. Forget your mice, MIDI controllers, you will not even need to look at your laptop any more. The Xth Sense biosensor was designed to be easily implemented by anyone, no previous experience in electronics is required. The applications of the Xth Sense technology are manifold: from complex gestural control of samples and audio synthesis, through biophysical generation of music and sounds, to kinetic control of real time digital processing of traditional musical instruments, and more. ~ How Firstly, participants will be introduced to the Xth Sense Technology by its author and led through the assembling of their own biosensing wearable hardware using the materials provided. Next, they will become proficient with the Xth Sense software framework: all the features of the framework will be unleashed through practical exercises. Theoretical background on the state of art of gestural control of music and new musical instruments will be developed by means of an audiovisual review and participatory critical analysis of relevant projects selected by the instructor. Eventually, participants will combine hardware and software to implement a solo or group performance to be presented during the closing event. At the end of the workshop, participants will be free to keep the Xth Sense biosensors they built and the related software for their own use. ~ Prospective participants The workshop is open to anyone passionate about sound and music. No previous experience in electronics or programming is required, however participants should be familiar with digital music creation. Musical background and education does not matter as long as you are ready to challenge your usual perspective on musical performance. Composers, producers, sound designers, musicians, field recordists are all welcome to join our team for an innovative and highly creative experience. This is a last call for only two more candidates. Message-ID: SoundFjord in collaboration with The Pigeon Wing, present an improvised, live sound art performance by Strange Attractor: SATURDAY 19 November 2011 | 2pm ? 5pm | Free event all welcome After their highly successful gallery residency project in the Crawford Gallery, Cork, Ireland, Strange Attractor return with a new series of durational live performances in venues across Ireland and England in conjunction with the publication of a new book and DVD about the project. Following on from the Irish book launch at the Crawford Gallery, Cork, Strange Attractor will travel to the UK for two London-based performances, the first a ?signature? durational performance on Saturday 19 November at The Pigeon Wing and following on, a gig at Caf? Oto on Monday 21 November. Specific to The Pigeon Wing, Strange Attractor (featuring Anthony Kelly, Danny McCarthy, Irene Murphy, Mick O?Shea and David Stalling), will perform a three-hour improvisational sound performance; an experiment with technology and combined media to explore creative possibilities resulting in an experience that offers multiple points of entry for the audience. Everyone is welcome to come along and encouraged to move freely throughout the gallery space during the event. These performances are in support of the new Strange Attractor full- colour publication with DVD, which documents all aspects of the project, including images from the live performances and gallery installations, live excerpts and other related recordings alongside specially commissioned essays from the likes of David Toop, Stephen Vitiello, Steve Roden, Jed Speare and Bernard Clarke. Signed copies of this publication will be available from The Crawford Gallery, Farpoint Recordings, The Pigeon Wing, Caf? Oto and SoundFjord. The Strange Attractor project began in November 2010, with a series of monthly four-hour durational sound performances within the gallery spaces inviting, international guests including David Toop and Mary Nunan, Stephen Vitiello, Alessandro Bosetti, Rhodri Davies, Lee Patterson, Mel Mercier and Steve Roden amongst others. These performances attracted large audiences who have experienced the artists developing relationships between sound, visual art, music and choreography. An audio CD Soundcast 4?4 (+1) is currently available from farpointrecordings.com. This CD features audio extracts from the first Strange Attractor performance and comes in an unusual fold-out sleeve designed by Peter Murray (Crawford Gallery, Cork, Ireland) and Francis Halsall (NCAD, Dublin, Ireland). DANNY McCARTHY is one of Ireland?s pioneers of performance art and sound art and he continues to be a leading exponent exhibiting and performing both in Ireland and abroad. In 2006, he founded the Quiet Club with Mick O?Shea, a floating membership sound (art and electronics) performance group. He is a founding director of Triskel Arts Centre and the National Sculpture Factory. A book + CD on his work entitled ?LISTEN Hear? was published by Farpoint Recordings, and his work has appeared on numerous CDs, most recently ?Soundcast 4?4+1? on Farpoint Recordings. IRENE MURPHY?s work questions the role of the artist, creative space, and engages with a broader concept of creativity. A common link in her art are ideas about performativeness, site specificity and communality with Murphy?s art acts being private interventions into public space. She is active in initiating and participating in many group and collaborative projects and events, such as The YOYO Club, Ideal State Agency, Electric Rain, Us Live and Club House. The creative trio The Domestic Godless use food and hosting as their chosen medium. Murphy is a founder member of the Cork Artists Collective and The Guesthouse. MICK O?SHEA works spring from his essential experience in drawing. His medium includes sculpture, drawing, sound and cooking. In 2003 O?Shea and fellow artist Stephen Brandes and Irene Murphy set up the collaborative practice, The Domestic Godless which, through performative cooking events, explores culinary activity as art practice and tests assumptions about the cultural traditions of food in challenging and often irreverent and absurdist ways. In 2006 he formed The Quiet Club with Danny McCarthy to promote and showcase improvised music and soundworks. O?Shea is a member and director of the Cork Artists Collective. ANTHONY KELLY & DAVID STALLING have been collaborating on a series of sound and visual works since 2003. Together the make sound and video installations. Their work encompasses a shared practice of recycling ?objets trouve?s? of sound, visual and text material in their ongoing collaborative sessions. The juxtaposition of contrasting material results in a series of audio/visual ?musique concr?te? pieces. Kelly and Stalling also perform live improvisations, as a duo as well as with others, such as The Quiet Club, Barbara L?neburg and Jennifer Walshe. Some of their recent performances include Just Listening, LSAD Limerick, the i-and-e festival 2011, Dublin, Sonic Vigil, Cork, The Goethe-Institut,Dublin, Hilltown New Music Festival, Visual in Carlow, Soundwave 2, Cobh, and Kaleidoscope at The Odessa Club. They founded the sound art label Farpoint Recordings in 2005, publishing projects by artists such as Danny McCarthy, The Quiet Club and Linda O?Keeffe amongst others alongside their own work. farpointrecordings.com SoundFjord is a research unit and venue dedicated to the Sonic Arts. Many programming environments seem to have steep learning curves when, in fact, there are quick entries and strategies for making fast progress and developing good personal performance instruments quickly. This seminar will explore the possibilities of SuperCollider to create realtime performance systems for computer music. We will work following the methodology of just-in-time programming, which allows the modification of parts of an algorithm while it is executing. Likewise, we will see how to integrate our (JITlib-based) instruments with a wide variety of control devices in a flexible, extensible and reliable manner. After each session, we will evaluate the behaviour of our programs under live performance conditions, in solo or ensemble arrangements. Alberto de Campo studied classical composition, jazz guitar, and electronic music in Austria and in the United States. After working at UC Santa Barbara designing experimental software instruments with Curtis Roads, he taught at Media Arts Academy Cologne, the Institute for Electronic Music in Graz and at the Technical University of Berlin, where he held the Edgard Var?se guest professorship for Electronic Music. He later also held a professorship for Music Informatics at Music University D?sseldorf and, since 2009, he is a Professor for Generative Art/Computational Art at the Institute for Time-based Media, Arts University Berlin (UdK). Alberto plays with powerbooks_unplugged (just in time programming on mostly unamplified laptops) and also improvisation groups with acoustic instruments such as Quiet Noise Quartet, Syntopia Ensemble or with musicians like Elisabeth Harnik, Mario de Vega, Hannes Hoelzl, Joker Nies and others. He makes electronic music with BlippooHazard (four musicians playing the Blippoo Box, a hardware synth by Rob Hordijk). Recent projects include creating software instruments and sound installations with Florian Hecker, e.g. ?No Night No Day? at Biennale Venice, and AuditoryObjects (Bordeaux), and collaborating with Marcus Schmickler and Carsten Goertz on Bonner Durchmusterung, a project involving sonification und visualization of astronomical data. Hyperion was founded in 1976 by the composer Iancu Dumitrescu. As a starting point, Hyperion explored possible connections between the most archaic Romanian music ? Byzantine music, folk music collected by Bartok, etc. ? and today?s avant-garde music. It is a tradition of performance, of interpreting each new score as a provocation of the spirit, and a quest for new domains of sound. Aesthetically, at the heart of this work is the notion of spectrality as it developed in the work of Dumitrescu, Avram and other Romanian composers ? that is: a specifically transformational spectrality, as opposed to the structural spectrality of the French Itin?raire group. Hyperion has performed all over Europe, Israel and in United States, and recorded numerous LPs and 28 compact discs. After a couple of ambient releases these tracks venture back into more rhythmic territory. As a long and avid fan of the Neo Ouija catalogue, this release means quite a lot to me. Hope you like as much as I do. The album is available as a digital download and you can get it via your regular digital retailers such as: iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/de/album/our-own-distance/id470506073 Boomkat: http://boomkat.com/downloads/454063-nq-our-own-distance Zero Inch: http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/NQ Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Our-Own-Distance/dp/B005REP27A/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1320996865&sr=1-1-catcorr This is what the promo sheet has to say about it: "NQ is Nils Quak. It is his second appearance on Neo Ouija after his contribution to the Diaspora Cottage Industry 5 compilation in 2008. With "Our Own Distance" he returns to more beat based music after a couple of ambient releases under his real name. "Our Own Distance" is a testament of longing ? euphoric, melancholic, at times naive, yet confident and reflective. A lot of the tracks were produced on long train rides between different cities to shut out the noises on the outside and inside, watching things pass and resonate." Take care, Nils PS: I also have some limited tape copies of the album "Drei" from my Beth Kleist project. The tapes are (incl. postage) 7? in Europe and 9? worldwide.
