After the opening Andr? will use the space as an open studio, where new pieces that explore both aural and electronic universes will be developed and exhibited. Andr? Castro (b.1983) is a sound artist from Lisbon, graduated in Sonic Arts by the Middlesex University. A great part of these projects has been created in collaboration with designers, visual artists and choreographers. This is commonly due to both restrictions imposed by the bent or hacked device (?there?s limited space on the speak & spell to put extra buttons?) and by the introvert nature of DIY EMIs; many electronic luthiers creations are only ever performed by the luthier themselves (?no one else will play my instrument so it doesn?t matter how easy it is to work?). There can be up to hundreds voices, and every voice is different and continuously changing in amplitude. All visitors who will connect to fades.net website during the performance (by iphone, iPad, blueberry, etc) will add a new voice to the drone. Instructions for the audience will be shown on a screen, along with a graphical representation of the drone. There is no interaction but a progressive addition of sinusoids. For the current constellation of talks and presentations a particular emphasis is placed on an understanding of listening, not a biological constant, but rather a ?practice? that both shapes and is shaped by various contexts. In this sense every mode of hearing is understood to be distributed across a diversity of practices and disciplines. Project* is pleased to invite submissions of fixed media sound works for the second edition of ?Sonic Screens?, a journey among different electroacoustic Soundscape compositions. *Sonic Screens* is an annual event that will take place during two acousmatic evenings in Milan during Fall 2011. *Sonic Screens* aims to render the endless possibilities of life and its surroundings experienceable in our conscious activity, trying to deal with the possible infinites of the listening experience, both in their objective and manufactured dimensions. *?Listening to the environment, contextualizing it objectively and creatively has always been a priority of the work of U.S.O. Project. Free from any pseudo-environmental or socio-political implication, the continuous work on sampling, processing and transfiguration of found sound and carefully preserved in memory of a digital recorder, has always played a central role in our compositional practices.
