Please, forward to any of your contacts based there who might be willing to contribute with their recordings. Thanks for your kind attention, all the best, p))) ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// SIRENS 2012 is the code name for a project based in the sound of the Dutch civil defense sirens system. This system consists in around 4200 sirens placed all across the country and tested regularly, resonating in unison exactly at 12:00 (midday) every first Monday of the month. Listen to one of those events, recorded at Bezuidenhout in The Hague, Nov 2009: http://bit.ly/fog6N4 The first step is to gather recordings of the monthly sirens tests through this open call, so I would like to ask you to contribute with recordings of any of the 12 tests that will happen throughout 2011. The simple goal is to collect as many recordings every month as possible, allowing us to map this large scale event from a variety of locations. Outcomes of the project are still to be defined and will also depend of the received materials, consisting primarily in work derived of the archive of recordings made over this one-year period. Results will emerge likely at the end of 2011, celebrating the arrival of 2012 and embracing whatever revelations and transformative changes (apocalyptical or not) the new year may bring. Please, forward this call to any of your contacts based in the Netherlands potentially willing to participate. Find below the details about how to contribute. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// SIRENS 2012 : Contribution guidelines - Recordings in any location within the country in all sorts of environments and situations are welcome, as far as the sound of the sirens is audible in the recording. It is encouraged to record as well a couple of minutes before and after the sirens sound itself. - There are no technical limitations neither special requirements. Use any sort of recorder (handheld, laptop, etc) and transducer/ microphones you have at hand. - Please, send uncompressed audio (AIFF/WAVE) or lossless (FLAC) instead of compressed formats (MP3, OGG). - Use any online storage system of your choice to submit the recordings (any FTP server or services such as Yousendit, Megaupload, Dropbox, etc). Anyway, there is a Dropbox account made available for the project which can be used to upload your recordings. Log in data (please note: its not needed to download the dropbox application in order to upload files): https://www.dropbox.com/ username: sirens2012 at gmail.com password: sirens2012 - Once the files are uploaded, send an email to sirens2012 at gmail.com, including: * Your name and contact info. * Name of the file (and download link in case it is not stored in the project?s Dropbox). * Date and location of the recording (address, a well-known landmark, GPS coordinates, Google Maps...). * Recording equipment used (mic and recorder). * (Optional) Comments and personal impressions about the sound of the sirens. (Files will be removed from the dropbox account as soon as I receive the submission email and download the files). - If you feel like contributing throughout the year but feel unsure about being able to remember about it every month, drop me a line and you will be sent a monthly reminder the day before each of the siren tests. - Every contributor will be included in the credits of the project. All the recordings and as well the derived works will be under copyleft (using a Creative Commons 3.0 license), granting the rights to be shared and reused. Submitting recordings implies that you agree with this license. - Comments, feedback and questions: sirens2012 at gmail.com. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// >> NEXT SIREN TEST: TOMORROW, Monday 3 January, 12:00h ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// -=-=-==------==-=----=---=-=-=-----------=---=-=---=----- pablo sanz almoguera http://20020.org http://twitter.com/sharawadji http://mediateletipos.net http://artesonoro.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This piece is of and about my travels to Rajasthan, India approximately one decade ago. The original version was created in 2005 but never premiered in concert (although it appears on the /Deep Wireless 5/ compilation (cd), produced by the Canadian organization "New Adventures In Sound Art" (naisa.com )). My new edition of this brief, abstract travelogue adds another layer onto the original. /Just think of it, now you get even more sound for your money! You've got to hear it to believe it!!!!/ Apologies for my late notice, as well as any duplicate and cross listings you've gotten regarding this Festival. I do hope you can come on Saturday or any of the great nights that we (SFTMC) have in store for you. Happy New Year! ..Thom / / P.S. Full details follow. It uses various types of sonic transducers to play live sounds through various resonant objects in the performance space, as well as through architectural features of the space itself. Additionally, an 8?8 matrix mixer allows the sound from any of the objects to be sent to any of the performers, making the whole piece an experiment in generative chaos. Regenwald 2011 will be developed in a workshop format with up to 8 participants over a period of several days. The resulting work should shift between relatively static installation-like moments and performative sections where the artists seek new relationships with the objects and each other. The audience is free to move around the performance space, engage in conversations and explore the resonant objects, thus adding new life to the rainforest. A opening night presentation will introduce the concept of Regenwald 2011 and the context of ?Schematic as Score? as seen in the works of both David Tudor and John Cage. *Documentation* A rough schematic of a previous transducer system (Regenskog 2010) can be seen here: http://macumbista.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/regnskog_notext.png Documentation of Regenskog 2010 can be found here: http://macumbista.net/?p=1840 *Dates* 28 January ? 01 February, 12-19:00 daily: Regenwald 2011 workshop in West Germany, Kottbusser Tor, Berlin 01 February 21:00: opening Regenwald 2011 presentation/performance, West Germany, Kottbusser Tor, Berlin 02 February ? 05 February 18-22:00 daily: Regenwald 2011 installation, West Germany, Kottbusser Tor, Berlin *Participate* The Regenwald 2011 workshop is open for 8 participants who will be selected and notified on or before 16 January 2011. Is a concept album called "Blanc" - free download + info: http://www.zymogen.net/releases/zym026/ http://www.alessioballerini.com/ballerini-blanc.html ?Blanc? is a concept album that does not represent opposing views, but dissimilar ones. Downloadable from Zymogen the release is also accompanied by 2 videos and 15 drawings. The two videos were created via animation of the drawings. They describe two possible perspectives that do not bode well for the future of our planet. Between 2000 and 2008, the ice sheet of Greenland lost 1.5 trillion tons of ice, causing a yearly average rise of 0.46 mm in the ocean levels. Science Magazine states that the ocean's current growth rate is 0.75 mm per year. The complete dissolution of the ice sheet will result in a rise of 7 metres in the ocean levels. Despite the varying perspectives regarding this issue, there is a common thread of hope among global citizens, without which such loss would be inconceivable. ?Blanc & Noir? is also an installation that shows the process of the work's formation, as well as that of the drawings and the videos derived from it. The installation is designed to be expanded beyond the context of the gallery and the limitations imposed by it. Rather, it is hoped that the work will come to life in the homes and dwellings of those who take the drawings. Furthermore, the installation is a site-specific work that changes significance in situ, since the drawings constitute the work yet remain unfinished. The exhibition space is filled by a screen where the two videos are played in loop. The drawings, which each visitor can take, are placed below it. The work, as it is presented in the installation format has been selected by the Quattrocentometriquadri gallery, and is among the six finalists for the Metrocubo contest. The exhibition has been presented on Sunday 21st November 2010 at 11 am at the gallery in Via Magenta 15, Ancona, Italy. > Alessio Ballerini +39 347 10 76 528 http://www.alessioballerini.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Chris investigates how the fact and the practice of sound recording have transformed every aspect of production and reception in the field of organised sound, creating wholly new genres and understandings. If the medium is the message, this essay is an attempt to understand what the message of this system is. On Chris Cutler: At the start of the seventies, Chris Cutler co-founded The Ottawa Music Company - a 22-piece Rock composer's orchestra - before joining British experimental group Henry Cow, with whom he toured, recorded and worked in dance and theatre projects for the next eight years. Subsequently he co-founded a series of mixed national groups: Art Bears, News from Babel, Cassiber, The (ec) Nudes, p53 and The Science Group, and was a permanent member of American bands Pere Ubu, Hail and The Wooden Birds. Outside a succession of special projects for stage, theatre, film and radio he still works consistently in successive projects with Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins, Jon Rose, David Thomas, Peter Blegvad, Daevid Allen, The Bad Boys Collective and spectralists Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana Maria Avram. Recent projects include commissioned works for radio, various live movie soundtracks, pieces for the Hyperion Ensemble, Signe de Trois for surround-sound projection, a daily year-long soundscape project for Resonance FM, London and p53 for Orchestra and Soloists. He also founded and runs the independent label ReR Megacorp and the art distribution service Gallery and Academic and is author of the theoretical collection File Under Popular - as well as of numerous articles and papers published in sixteen languages. E8 1NH Cost: ?120 Converging Objects is a hands-on workshop aimed at acoustic musicians who improvise and use live electronics, those who play with other musicians using electronics, or musicians and programmers who improvise and work with acoustic players. Participants will explore ways to use technology as an intimate and/or integrated partner for acoustic instruments, designing hybrid or purely electronic instruments and ways in which to engage and integrate performers bodies as real-time creative forces. The focus will be on improvising skills as well as developing approaches to using live electronics. It is anticipated that the range of participants using electronics will encompass those just simply amplifying themselves to those using sophisticated computer programs. Software explored will include Abelton Live, Max/MSP, LiSa and, Supercollider. No previous experience of coding or use of programming environments is necessary. The course will conclude with a performance by participants and Anne and Robert. Bookings: Please e-mail to hello at callandresponse.org.uk to reserve a place. We will then e-mail you payment instructions. Please note places are limited to 15 and should be booked well in advance. Participants should bring their own laptops and instruments. Information about the artists: Robert van Heumen uses the laptop combined with various controllers to create sound worlds. As musician he uses STEIM's live sampling software LiSa and realtime audio-syntheses software SuperCollider controlled by MIDI controllers and a joystick. Van Heumen is performing regularly with Shackle (with electro-flutist Anne LaBerge), ABATTOIR (with cellist/vocalist Audrey Chen), the audio-visual trio SKIF++ (with Jeff Carey & Bas van Koolwijk) and Davis/VanHeumen (with bass clarinetist Gareth Davis). He worked for 9 years at the Studio for Electo-Instrumental Music (STEIM) in Amsterdam as project manager, curator of the Local Stop concert series and member of the artistic committee. Anne La Berge's career as flutist/improviser/composer stretches across international and stylistic boundaries. Her most recent performances bring together the elements on which her international reputation is based: a ferocious and far-reaching virtuosity, a penchant for improvising delicately spun microtonal textures and melodies, and her wholly unique array of powerfully percussive flute effects, all combined with electronic processing. http://www.annelaberge.com http://www.hardhatarea.com http://www.callandresponse.org.uk http://www.113dalstonlane.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <7A16A613-8ABA-4903-9368-1D9F4D22BB2C@estuary-ltd.com> Hello all, and happy 2011! Just wanted to let you know that Mem1's new LP, Tetra, is now available on Estuary Ltd. Mem1 {Tetra } Laura Cetilia cello + electronics Mark Cetilia analog modular + electronics After embracing the virtues of collaboration on their 2009 album +1 (with artists such as Steve Roden, Jan Jelinek and Frank Bretschneider) and the recordings featured on their upcoming full-length album with Stephen Vitiello (Age of Insects on Dragon's Eye Recordings), Mem1 returns to its core. The duo's fourth full-length album, Tetra, was recorded over a brief but intense period of time in Spring 2010. The album is indicative of the ensemble's evolution and high calibre results arising from an unfailing commitment to their practice and to each other (Mark Cetilia, analogue modular + electronics and Laura Cetilia, cello + electronics). In Tetra, Mem1 focuses on long-form improvisation and a deeply personal approach to sound gained over seven years of playing together. Each piece is evocative of an extreme environment, whether exploring the impenetrable darkness of the ocean floor, the anticipation of an impending volcanic eruption, or the frigidness of a barren, windswept mountain. Mem1 offers the listener moments of warmth, austerity, and luxury?each suspended in time, slowly folding in over each other. Tetra is the debut release on Mem1's new record label, Estuary Ltd. It is available in a numbered edition of 300 carefully crafted releases on 150 gram clear vinyl with silkscreened artwork designed and hand-printed by Mark Cetilia using metallic inks. All orders ship with a certificate for a free digital download of this album in 320kbps LAME-encoded .mp3 format. For the luddites among you, Tetra is also available in digital form only. NEANDERTHAL ELECTRONICS This 5 day workshop is designed for up to 12 people, possibly with a background in sound, but with no previous electronics experience. They are shown how to use simple objects from our modern environment (resistors, capacitors, transistors, LEDs, integrated circuit chips?) to design and build their own personal, customized primitive noise synthesizers. Each is a tiny world of its own, using primitive analog computers in combination with feedback, sensors and audio inputs to create a unique sound. Even from the same plan, no two are alike! Participants are encouraged to use found materials for the construction of their personal instrument, with an emphasis on discovering creative and physical methods of controlling them. The workshop will conclude with a group performance at Experimontag @ Madame Claude on Monday 28 February and an invitation to the audience to experiment with each of the instruments which have been created. Previous Neanderthal Electronics workshop participants are welcome to join this performance with their own instruments, please contact ?MACUMBISTA at_the_domain GMAIL.COM? directly to arrange. More info and videos from previous workshops can be found here: http://macumbista.net/?page_id=497 Participation is limited to 12 participants. Registration: Pre-registration is required and can be done by sending an email to info at nkprojekt.de DATES: 23-27 February 12:00-19:00 / Presentation 28 February 21:00 (Madame Claude) FEE: EUR 120 including materials, with a deposit of EUR 27 to be paid beforehand. LOCATION: NK, Elsenstr. 52/2.Hinterhaus Etage 2, 12059 Berlin Neuk?lln/MADAME CLAUDE, L?bbener Str.19, 10997 Berlin Kreuzberg About the Instructor Derek Holzer (1972) is an American sound artist living in Berlin, whose current interests include DIY analog electronics, sound art, field recording and the meeting points of electroacoustic, noise, improv and extreme music. He has played live experimental sound, as well as taught workshops in noise art technology, across Europe, North America, Brazil and New Zealand. WHAT TO BRING I will provide most of the tools and materials necessary for constructing your Neanderthal synthesizers, however there are a few things you should bring yourself: 1) A Box (REQUIRED): This should be made of thin wood or cardboard. Plastic can also be used, but it doesn?t sound very good, and metal is too difficult to cut and drill with the tools we will have. This box should be a minimum of 10x10x3cm, or bigger if you want to use a larger speaker or have more room to decorate and add objects. Cigar boxes, small suitcases, instrument cases or jewelry/silverware boxes are all good things to look for. At least one side of the box should be no more than 4mm thick, to allow the potentiometers, switches, knobs and jacks to be mounted. 2) A speaker (OPTIONAL): I will provide a selection of speakers ranging from approximately 6-12cm diameter. If you want to use a larger one, you?ll have to provide it yourself. Besides buying one, you can salvage one from old hi-fi systems or portable stereos. 3) Decorative materials/sonic objects (REQUIRED): Please bring as many found objects as you can to decorate your soundbox or use as a sound source via the contact microphone. Photographs, cloth, leather, paper or any other kind of material can be useful for covering the box and making collages. Bones, shells, small sticks, bells, springs, strings, wires or anything else made out of solid yet resonant material make great sound sources. Paint, markers and pens may also be useful. RUMOURS FROM THE EASTERN UNDERGROUND, a podcast series by Felix Kubin Message-ID: In PARASOL ELEKTRONICZNY. RUMOURS FROM THE EASTERN UNDERGROUND, *Felix Kubin * leads us on a tour of underground sound production in Eastern Europe. Link: http://bit.ly/hcQo5Q MP3 file: http://bit.ly/b89uKZ Related info: http://bit.ly/dzDQ2f The first episode of the PARASOL ELEKTRONICZNY. RUMOURS FROM THE EASTERN UNDERGROUND series is an exception in two regards. Firstly, as I happened to be on a journey to Tallinn at that time, I conducted the interviews with the artists myself. This task is usually carried out by our umbrella agents. The second unusual feature is its duration. At over 80 minutes, it could almost be considered a double feature. However, television pilot programs are often longer than their follow-ups, and I don?t see any reason why this should not apply to audio features too. Also, the Estonian episode is a good introduction to the vibrancy and variety of the Eastern European underground scene. Each episode of the series features some recurring topics and sections: a new national anthem composed by one of the featured artists, introductions to instruments and favorite sounds, miniature audio diaries offering "a day in the life" impressions, spoken word in the local language, descriptions of some local psychological and economic survival tactics and discussions around the "symptoms of the East". "We don't know if we are East or West. We want to be more like a Scandinavian country", says post-punk diva Kiwa, one of Estonia's most famous underground artists, who still survives on a bare minimum. Indeed, with its small Protestant population and outlandish language, Estonia has much in common with Finland. Still, there is a strong connection to other Eastern European countries, particularly in terms of their shared political history. Artists and musicians like Kiwa, Taavi Tulev and Aivar T?nso have lived through the intense political changes that shook their country: from Russian occupation to independence, democracy, capitalism and a right-wing government. Other artists were too young to witness these changes. The political and economic uncertainties have also led to the emergence of a rich artistic resistance. In their brutal propaganda satire "Choose order", the radical film group ESTO TV comments on the growing nationalism in Estonia. The members of the group weren't afraid to infiltrate political gatherings of the right-wing party, pretending to be their truest and most radical followers. Although artists like Andres L?o and Kiwa laconically assert that there is "no market for contemporary art", Estonia has a blossoming music scene that is full of optimism. As most of the musicians don't have a job, issues concerning crisis and security become irrelevant. Or, as the musician Rainer Jancis put it: "We can lose our lives but we can't lose our jobs." *Felix Kubin, 2010.11.09* Featured artists: Aivar T?nso Katrin Essenson Raul Keller Kiwa Sequoia (Lotte J?rjendal & Katrin R?tte) Taavi Tulev Andres L?o Tencu (Andres Tenusaar) Rainer Jancis -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... For more information, look up http://puredata.info/community/organization/pd-berlin/pd-berlin-users-group. We also encourage you to take an active part, and put up suggestions for topics you want to talk about / topics you want to be talked about. Doors are open from 20h-20h15. After that they'll be closed, and you will have to call someone from the Pd-meeting to get in. To get a telephone number to call or confirm assistance you can write to info_at_minitronics.net. Please, don?t call to the staff of NK to open the doors. They let us use the space but we have to take care about having the meeting without producing any disturbance to them, and to clean the space after the meeting. We would apreciate if you would send us a small mail to info_at_minitronics.net with your name, Pd experience and interests, so that we know how many people might be coming. Or put your name in the pd-berlin wiki page. We would like to thank the support and willingness of NK in the organization of these events. Build a synthesizer in a new way using needle and thread instead of soldering iron and fabric instead of circuit boards. Syntjuntan is an ensemble of female composers, musicians and instrument builders and they will give a workshop where you literally stitch together a synth using needle and thread! You don?t need to have a PhD in electronics to enjoy this workshop, anyone with or without phobia for soldering irons can participate!. With just a few simple components, needle and conductive thread you will stitch together your own synth and learn the basics of DIY synth building. A kit with all the necessary stuff that you need to participate will be sold at the workshop. Amplifiers and speakers to play with and listen to your creations will be provided. A Syntjunta is a combination of a concert and a workshop. When your handstitched synthesizer is ready you will learn how to control and play it, and even make a short composition. If you want to attach your synth to a garment or some fabric of your own choice, feel free to bring it with you to the workshop. For more inspiration and ideas visit our website www.syntjuntan.se The workshop will be taught in English Participation is limited to 20 participants. A recent example study conducted at the University of Sussex (Pattern Recognition in a Bucket) takes the terms of the LSM quite literally, making use of the waves produced on the surface of water to pre-process date and assist in certain speech recognition tasks. LSM becomes itself a model for social, artistic and scientific research which can be stretched or bent by way of paranoiac influence towards an investigation of certain fictions; a model which asserts that any system can be viewed as a system for computation for a particular problem. LSM invitse artists and researchers who work with chemical, biological and physical systems, with modelling, simulation and the subsequent interpretation of results, to join a series of collective workshops and working groups forming the exhibition (of process as sketch, of prototype, of working model) and performance. This first LSM iteration is proposed as a test module for a large-scale event planned for the summer of 2010 in Berlin. - 31. Message-ID: *INTERRUPTIONS #2. Once Upon a Time in CA. * *A mix curated by Chris Brown* Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/curatorial?id_capsula=798 Just as the struggle for the Western U.S. in the late 19th century revolved around the construction of the railroad, the struggle for global domination was waged around the development of the new electronic communication technologies during the late 1970s and 1980s in Silicon Valley. It was a free-wheeling time for start-ups run out of garages by a bunch of do-it-yourself geeks and venture capitalists. Hanging around its edges and feeding off the surplus of its aircraft and electronics industries, a gaggle of music experimenters were dreaming of a future where technology might enable new kinds of musical freedom ? freedom from orchestras and scores, freedom from scales and temperament, freedom from the academy, freedom from the music business, and, most of all, freedom for noise. Free improvisation was the lingua franca where jazz musicians, junk percussionists, instrument inventors, and computer hackers could come together to play. It was within this rag-tag musical stew that six idealist musicians, seduced into computer programming, connected their primitive 8-bit microcomputers into a network in search of complexly beautiful, automated behaviors. They were inspired by the home-brew orchestra of Harry Partch, the indeterminacy of John Cage, the electronic noise of David Tudor, with side helpings of the mysterioso of Captain Beefheart and the sonic ritual of Sun Ra. Living within a hippie backwash nirvana philosophy but confronted by the reality of wars launched from their own backyards into El Salvador and Nicaragua, their music was a quixotic swords-into-plowshares fantasy morphing uncontrollably into shouts of joy and rage. Lest there be any doubt that this was still the Wild, Wild West, in 1978 one politician climbed through a window into San Francisco's City Hall carrying a loaded handgun, shot its mayor and recently elected gay supervisor pointblank, and was later acquitted of first-degree murder for both crimes based on the 'Twinkie' junk-food diminished capacity defense. The AIDS epidemic emerged to cut a swath through the arts community, fueling both its paranoia and intensity. The Disney cult lured ever in the background, an implacable siren of pop. Still, the beauty of chaos remained a passionate quest that promised an escape from too much control, and not enough nature. Can musical life arise from industrial waste? Does harmony exist within the interactive chatter of cane reeds, bronze rods, computer algorithms, and resonating streams of electrons? This podcast presents one insider participant's movie of this once-upon-a-time musical scene. Excerpts from public performances, home and garage recording sessions, and parking lot sound installations are mingled like so many strands of pasta, sprinkled with bits cheese from a Sergio Leone soundtrack to provide epic flavor. Moments of coincidence among impossible sonic bedfellows created the sauce. The recipe for this California home-grown dish can be found here: Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/curatorial?id_capsula=798 MP3: http://rwm.macba.cat/uploads/interruptions/04_onceuponatimeinca_chris_brown.mp3 Related info: http://rwm.macba.cat/uploads/20110118/02Interruptions_eng_PDF.pdf *On Chris Brown: * Chris Brown is a composer, pianist, and electronic musician, who creates music for acoustic instruments with interactive electronics, for computer networks, and for improvising ensembles. All submissions are done electronically. To submit follow this link: http://www.voxnovus.com/60x60/submission/ The Canadian mix is open for all Canadian artists or artists who reside in Canada. If you are a Canadian living abroad, please add the note ?(Canadian)? to the ?Address Line 2? field in the submission engine to assure consideration for the Canadian mix. All Canadian submissions will also be considered for the international 60x60 mix. Non-Canadian submissions are also welcome for the International mix (through the same submission engine). Questions about Canadian mix: canadian60x60 at gmail.com Detailed description: 60x60 call and Guidelines Vox Novus is inviting composers/sound artists to submit fixed-media works, 60 seconds or less in duration to be included in the third Canadian 60x60 mix. Sixty compositions will be selected to be played continuously in a one-hour concert. 60x60 is a one-hour-long show made by sequencing 60 pre-recorded pieces by 60 different composers, each piece a minute in length or shorter. Highlighting the work of a great many composers, 60x60 testifies to the vibrancy of contemporary composition by present a diverse array of styles, aesthetics, and techniques being used today ( http://www.voxnovus.com/60x60 ). Since 2008, the Canadian 60x60 mix has been presented in over 20 concerts and dance shows in a variety of formats in Canada and abroad. In 2010 it opened the 60x60 Order of Magnitude show at Concordia?s FOFA gallery in Montreal, a ten-hour-long show with multichannel audio, dance, and video that set a world record for most composers (600) programmed in a single show. Since its inception in 2003, the 60x60 project has received thousands of submissions from over 30 countries, produced radio shows, created multimedia and multidisciplinary events, and released several albums. During the concert each of the 60 pieces selected will begin precisely at the beginning of the minute, this will mark the end of one piece and the beginning of another. There will be no pause between the pieces. Works may be less than 60 seconds in length, but may not exceed 60 seconds. Works selected that are less than 60 seconds long will be ?padded? with silence either before, after, or surrounding the composition. Please note that the total duration of the work including silence may NOT exceed sixty seconds. The 60x60 project?s definition of a fixed-media work is as follows: any work created as a sonic art or musical composition captured on recorded media, which does not require live performers for its production in broadcast at concert halls, radio, multi-media, etc. Its creation can include but not limited to acoustic instruments, voice, environmental sources, and computer (Sampling, MAX MSP, MIDI, C Sound, ProTools, etc.) All works submitted should be with the understanding that it is their recording that is of prime importance and is what will be used to determine its selection (please do not submit scores). 60x60 is a project of ?signature works? and short works created specifically for the 60x60 project. Excerpts of larger works are strongly discouraged. Works generated from procedures (i.e. mathematical matrices, organizational systems, or computer programs,) remixed works, or themes and motives recomposed from other of the composer's own work are acceptable. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JANUARY 31st, 2011 There is no admission fee. All submissions must be uploaded online at: http://www.voxnovus.com/60x60/submission Audio submissions must be in either AIFF or WAV file format. Multiple submissions are accepted from a single composer/sound artist; however, only one submission will be allowed per email address submitted. Works selected for the 2011 Canadian 60x60 mix will be announced on February 15th, 2011. Composer will be notified of the results by email. The results will also be announced on http://www.VoxNovus.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Cheers Jake <<<<<<<<<<<<< Spectral Influence Sound artist Will Schrimshaw is Access Space Artist in Residence throughout this month His project, Spectral Influence, aims to explore the way in which the noises and lighting of the city we occupy influences our movements and emotional relations with urban space and the others we share this space with. The exhibition will preview in the Access Space foyer on Friday 28th Jan, 5.50-8.00pm and run until the 5th March 2011. Facebook event: http://tinyurl.com/6g4fy6g Urban environments constantly emit vibrational forces that affect the bodies of their occupants, whether these be auditory or electromagnetic forces, asserting a subliminal influence upon the movements, physiological and emotional states of citizens. In response to these diverse vibrational influences, a spectral mapping of the city is being carried out in relation to the human bodies that populate it and move throughout it. Spectral Influence aims to establish a speculative and roaming research environment through artistic practice and the use of 'open source' tools, insinuating itself into the city and charting the invisible yet influential components of the landscape. http://willschrimshaw.net <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Jake Harries Digital Arts Programme Manager ACCESS SPACE Unit 1, AVEC Building 3-7? Further info: http://www.callandresponse.org.uk Information about the artists: Robert van Heumen uses the laptop combined with various controllers to create sound worlds. Welcome back to "these are a few of my favorite things". As mentioned in earlier installments, my interpretation of field recording based works is very broad, however the thread I like to follow is to find artists who have mastered their unique identity through the music of sound. This 7th installment will focus on the label DER, Dragon's eye recordings, based in LA and run by sound artist Yann Novak. Focusing on limited edition releases by emerging and mid-carrier sound artists, composers and producers, Dragon's Eye's goal is to foster personal and artistic relationships with its artists and to function as a meeting ground for its artists to further develop relationships with one another. The curation of the imprint by Novak is done primarily through real world relationships, with some virtual exceptions. By focusing on human interactions and talent, rather than style or genre, Dragon's Eye?s catalogue has slowly become a melting pot of sounds, processes and practices. Dragon's Eye values interconnectedness and encourages it by offering its artists a chance to showcase their own visual concepts, commission artists they have worked with, or recruit Dragon's Eye?s partners to help create the visual representations for their releases. Through these practices, Dragon's Eye offers a more personal presentation of its artists for their audience and creates a catalogue that is diverse yet bonded through human collaboration. Dragon's Eye Recordings was originally founded by Paul Novak, (Yann Novak?s father), in 1989 as the audio/visual arm of Only Connect...Publications. Paul was and still is a bread baker and avid record collector. Only Connect...Publications was his first venture to self-publish his bread recipes. Through his new publishing company, Paul designed his book on an Apple Plus computer, commissioned a friend and artist to create the painting for the cover, and recruited a musician to compose an original work to accompany bread making. Due to his love and passion for both music and record collecting, Paul created Dragon's Eye Recordings to compliment his publishing company. All of these pursuits had a strong impact on his son who would later relaunch the label in 2005 and try to stay true to these communal values endowed in the label. http://www.dragonseyerecordings.com again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition, or introduction submissions. we are also now accepting proposals for full editions of our guest curated /*framework:afield*/ series. send proposals or material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! framework tartu mnt 41 63710 ahja polvamaa estonia info at frameworkradio.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *(artist / track / album on DER / website)* Shinkei / Untitled / Static Forms / http://www.yugen-art.org Pierre G?rard / wooden mouldings for the assembly (to Constantine Brancusi / Static Forms / http://www.pierregerard.eu Fourm / Seagram Series (for MArk Rothko) / Clean Forms / http://www.myspace.com/sicomm Turra / Alluminium.Zinc / Clean Forms / http://www.navenight.com Tomas Phillips & Jason Bivins / Ohne Titel 2 / Blau / http://www.incursion.org/phillips Mimoza Moize / Live at unit 3.03 / Live at unit 3.03 / http://www.mimosamoize.com Simon Whetham / 02 Part (Paths, Crossings) / prayers Unheard / http://www.simonwhetham.co.uk Yann Novak / The breeze blowing over us / Infrequency Editions / http://www.yannnovak.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ framework intro submissions: 1) take yourself and an audio recorder to a location of your choice 2) record for /AT LEAST/ one minute before you - 3) read aloud the following text: *welcome to framework. framework is a show consecrated to field recording, and its use in composition. field recording, phonography, the art of sound hunting; open your ears and listen!* */[3b) please also feel free to translate this text into your native tongue!] /* 4) continue your recording for /AT LEAST/ two minutes after you have finished speaking 5) post the recording to us on any format, or send us an mp3 thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ drop a note to info at frameworkradio.net to be added to or removed from this mailing list -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
