(I overheard at least one of the girls among our human listeners snigger that we ourselves were the monkees ... ) Our first set was for the zoo's community of Baboons. We then turned around for a second set, performed explicitly for Chim?ne the Gibbon, a very shy ape, but a fantastic singer. It was very special indeed to experience the mingling of the sounds from our dictaphones, the sound of Anthony's guitar, that of Jean's double bass, and the metallic percussion hit and bowed by Rebus and myself, with the sounds of the zoo around us. The garden and the animals were like a fifth instrument, and our performance indeed spun itself into the intricate web of relations that we had intended, heralding in its own modest way the transition of contemporary art into a new altermodern era ...[ permalink: http://www.harsmedia.com/SoundBlog/Archief/00654.php ]--** have a great day!__ Harold Schellinx===================================== * Be an Angel !__ Guard the SoundBlog !__==== http://angelsponsor.soundblog.net ===================================== _________________________________________________________________ In?dit ! THANK YOU! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ /*framework*/ - phonography / field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity presented by patrick mcginley this week we join the schedule at yet another independent radio station - we are pleased to now be a part of the line-up at *radio campus, 92.1* in brussels! they will be broadcasting framework on friday mornings at 1am (that is to say late night thursdays - don't get confused!) beginning with this edition, airing this coming friday, the 5th of december. if you are involved with an independent radio station that might be interested in adding framework to their schedules, or if you know of one that you think should, drop us a note! this week we aired several collaborations - recordings by *@c* with* vitor joaquim*, *rinus van alebeek* with* tibor macek*, and the first document of a project i've been involved with for the last few years called *revenant*. revenant is an open-membership project focusing on site specific actions, and for this action, made near the italian/slovenian border in 2006, participants included *yannick dauby*, *olivier feraud*, *john grzinich*, *hitoshi kojo*, and myself. for more info have a look at http://www.revenantsound.net and http://www.prelerecords.com. end shameless self-promotion. one other idea i'd like to put forward - it's been many years since framework started the listener-recorded introduction initiative, and we now have upwards of 150 different intros recorded all over the world. someone recently pointed out to me that i should make it clear that folks are also free to translate the introductory text into their native language. so! you'll notice that clarification now added to the introduction guidelines at the end of this mail - by all means, translate away! framework now broadcasts in several different countries, let's go multi-lingual! again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition, or introduction submissions. we are also now accepting proposals for full editions of our guest curated series. send proposals or material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! HELL! LESS THAN QUARTERLY!! BUT IT'S HERE AT LAST! Greetings nice people, It seems that my personal life is eating up more and more of my 'netlabel time'. More than a year ago I promised that our newsletter wouldn't be out more than once a month and now from this distance that promise seems not more than an understatement. Reality check: I wish that I had enough time and subject to do a monthly newsletter! Anyway, it could be worse... I could not have enough spare time for the netlabel, so I guess I'm lucky. Another 12 releases later, and here we are, a bit closer to another christmas, another end of the year, another handful - make that several handfuls - of releases for the collection. In our next newsletter, and let's hope it will come out early in January, we will cover our 'best of' of 2008. Our personal faves as well as our top downloaded releases. I will also check out some of the websites that usually support the netaudio scene and round up some of their suggestions. Don't miss it... I'll try not to miss it as well :) So... have a nice family reunion, enjoy your holidays and your xmas presents, eat and drink, spread the love, have fun, and we'll get together next january for a recap. CD . [ http://www.60project.com%20 ]60? Project - The Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival is celebrating the 60th anniversary of musique concrete and the pioneering work of Pierre Schaeffer by commissioning 60? by Mathew Adkins. This highly exciting and adventurous work will involve the contribution of sound materials by 60 composers from around the world. We would like to invite you to be one of the participating composers. artists include: AGF, Fran?ois Bayle, Mira Calix, Richard Chartier, Francis Dhomont, Lawrence English, Erikm, Christian Fennesz, Tim Hecker, Christina Kubisch, Francisco L?pez, Stephan Mathieu, Steve Roden, Scanner, Janek Schaefer, Conrad Schnitzler, Sogar, Terre Thaemlitz, David Toop and many more. The concept behind the project is ingenious. Rather than celebrating Schaeffer's achievements through curating a concert of historical works, Adkins and the hcmf Artistic Director Graham McKenzie have decided to invite 60 sound artists and composers to each contribute 60 sounds. Each of these sounds will then be made available to all of the participants who will then create sound fragments based on this material. This material will then be mixed by Adkins in the studios of INA-GRM in July 2008. The work will be premiered on 28th November 2008 at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. "El Melancolico Sue?o del Ni?o: Butterfly of Pain >From the other side of the Andes, an out of time, out of space voice comes to my ears, singing new songs, singing old songs, unearthing sour, old times... ... And, as I hear it, as I recognize it, a butterfly of pain poses over my throat, a handful of violets cast its florecitas in every song - an old essence bringing out nostalgia... My spirit is invaded by loneliness and tragedia arrabalera thru every beat I hear. My mind wakes into mist and darkened truths. I look for, I want to find eyes, hands, words of love. -This music moves me so much, my God! Every part of me is taken over by these songs. Then i go out for a walk. I feel like strolling thru Paris or Buenos Aires streets, all the while... Not alone, But with pain in my soul..." Vague Terrain 13: citySCENE - Call For Work In the 1980s architect Bernard Tschumi posed the following question: "If writers could manipulate the structure of stories in the same way as they twist vocabulary and grammar, couldn't architects do the same, organizing an architectural program in a similarly objective, detached, or imaginative way?" While Tschumi was speculating the foundation for a new type of architectural practice, his thinking can be applied to problematizing our current, informatized cityscapes. Ubiquitous computing, home-brew geospatial analysis and open source culture are rapidly changing our conception and experience of urban space. If "event" could be used as a catalyst in architecture, what paradigms might we employ to recontextualize the city? Vague Terrain 13: citySCENE is dedicated to exploring urban representation. The issue will serve as a global index of strategies for abstracting, quantifying and documenting urban life. Subjective cartographies, architectural mashups, urban informatics, augmented reality gaming and field recording based work are all examples of research that we are interested in. What is important is that the work is ambitious and innovative. We are seeking submissions in all formats - audio, video, photographic documentation and text. If you are interested in submitting work to be considered for inclusion in Vague Terrain 13: citySCENE please note the deadlines below and contact the issue curator, Greg J. Smith at greg at vagueterrain.net Additional Information Format: Please see http://vagueterrain.net/content/journal/submission-guidelines for full submission guidelines. Please consult this document as it is very important to read when considering the scope and deliverables of a submission. All of these criteria will have to be met in order for work to be included in the issue. Copyright: Vague Terrain publishes material under an Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike Creative Commons License. Potential contributors are welcome to propose alternative licenses for their work - but we prefer the flexibility and open nature of CC. Submission Deadline: Potential contributors should establish contact and provide links/information about a proposed submission before January 24th. Selected participants will be contacted by February 1st and all submission material and supporting documentation will need to be uploaded by February 15th. The tentative publication date for the issue is March 1st. Curator Information: Greg J. Smith is a Toronto-based designer and researcher with interests in media theory and digital culture. His work is invested in exploring how contemporary information paradigms affect representational and spatial systems. These dynamics have been explored in a range of mediums including drawing, visualization, writing and editing. Greg co-curates and edits the digital arts publication Vague Terrain and is a contributor to Rhizome and Augmentology 1[L]0[L]1. It looks like an everyday yellow legal paper, but each line is constructed of micro-printed text and contains the personal details of Iraqi civilian casualties. Once in circulation each sheet then acts as a "Trojan horse" - slipping the unwanted and unacknowledged civilian body count data into official governmental archives. Trautonium jetztzeit was a concert as part of the exhibition ?Zauberhafte Klangmaschinen? by IMA in Austrian Hainburg. A show which should give every synth and electronic music and electronics geek and basically every mortal in the realms of electronic music wet dreams, as it is a great show of its history. Here is a link to the exhibition webpage: http://www.ima.or.at/klangmaschinen/?p=15 &language=en we did a live concert on December 4th (the recording of which i am currently editing and mastering), and previously to the gig, we also made a cd with a few tracks of Trautonium music. there is a long track done by liesl and a series of 4 tracks by myself as oliver stummer on my tracks you hear a short piece of me playing the Trautonium unedited. track two is only Trautonium, but edited together tape-music style. track three features Trautonium and computer-treated Trautonium sounds and track 4 is only computer-treated Trautonium -sounds the most interesting thing about the trautonium is it's manual - not the usual keyboard, but a string over a metal plate that allows for real glissandi, etc. it often sounds raw and noisy (no wonder, one of the main features being a noise generator), but especially the subharmonic generaters - THEE unique feat, so to say, gives really interesting and outstanding timbres enjoy! ?liver/tomoroh hidari ?~? ? There they were as our guests, accepted and accepting. So we moved, and they, in a formal pattern, Along the empty alley, into the box circle, To look down into the drained pool. Dry the pool, dry concrete, brown edged, And the pool was filled with water out of sunlight, And the lotos rose, quietly, quietly, The surface glittered out of heart of light, And they were behind us, reflected in the pool. Lets have an online electro-music.com international New Year's Eve party and electro-jam. Almost all cultures celebrate the January 1st New Year so this is sure not to offend too many people. A floating concert is like a floating crap game, it moves around from location to location. A shoutcast server will be set up to run all day Dec 31 through Jan 1. People in their studios are welcome to set up live streaming of performances, jam sessions, or any kind of musical expression for streaming. The electro-music.com members and lurkers can tune in and share the experience. Hopefully, people will be volunteering from all over the world to sign up for a time slot. Pick a time convenient for you - it doesn't have to be Midnight in your time zone, but that would be cool. For those that haven't done live streaming, it is a lot easier than you might imagine. To do the streaming, all you need is a PC with Oddcast (now called Edcast), a free program. If you have a Mac, you can use the Nicecast program (free demo works for a month the last time we tried it) to stream. If you are are interested in participating, a test server will be set up just for you to experiment on to make sure you can get it to work. Once you get your own server assignment, you can test stream all you want. When your time comes up on New Years Eve, the radio.electro-music.com server will be switched to reflect you server. You have nothing to do. If you are interested, please let us know. We'll pass out times on a first come basis. Why don't you join in? Don't worry about being polished and super professional, this is for fun. Hopefully, we can give some of our DIY synth builders a chance to have their music heard direct from their studios. It's party time... For more info go to http://electro-music.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22830. -- http://ocp.pt.vu -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
