Cherry music released new CD. [ Yannick Dauby / Fevrier ] The concept is field recordings. please listen this CD !!! We hope this wonderful music is listened by a lot of people.... cherry music web : http://cherrymusic.info Yannick Dauby web : http://kalerne.free.fr/yannickdauby/ thank you. ------------------------------------- [ Fevrier review] Yannick Dauby ?C Fevrier As an artist (whatever definition one applies to that term) the most difficult struggle is to not struggle- to simply create. So much ??music?? is weighed down by theory and made by artists who??s main aim is only to tell the listener all about their so called skills ?C in the process they rarely tell us anything worth knowing beyond the technical. Gathering pace, the use of field recordings in music is subject to the same sad fate. However, somewhere between the endless stock of bland new age environmental recordings on the market and the plethora of releases showcasing artists who apply heavy, rough, unskilled hands to natural sounds, there are a few who??s subtle, imaginative approach to field recording is creating music of lasting importance. Following the outstanding ??in drawing?? cd, Cherry have added another fine release to this small, select area. Having said that, I confess that I struggled with the intense, almost brutal deluge that emerges from the thunder storm of the first (18 minute) track on ??Fevrier??. The ferocity of sound seems designed to remind us of our inability to escape the power of nature. So, I suppose, Yannick has indeed succeeded in capturing the sound with its power intact. The 5 tracks on this cd are all based around field recordings ?C some are obvious and some are more to do with the search for hidden sounds in our environment. Yannick is one of the few who can also apply various technical processes in order to ??compose?? pieces from his recordings without the results sounding like electro-acoustic / phonographic garbage. The combination of his respectful skills when using natural sound and Cherry music??s high level approach to the quality of their releases makes ??Fevrier?? a fine addition to it??s catalogue. At the end of 2006, Pueblo Nuevo opens a new stage in its catalogue, announcing the first publication of a non chilean musician (stop frontiers!). We introduce to "d.soul" (Daniel Tischer), one of the most actives of the european electronic scene next to the netlabel movements. "d.soul" has realized productions even in its own netlabel called Tropic (www.tropic-netlabel.de) as in Audio808, Corpid and Bumpfoot. Straight from Frankfurt, Germany, "d.soul" has directly given us "Voyage", EP of four deeply and minimalistic cuts, characterized by a melancholic sound and, at the same, rhythmic, but always with a cadence pulse rhythm. 01.extasiar [05:55] 02.impulse [05:21] 03.seelenruhe [06:35] 04.voyage [06:24] 05.impulse (hans carstens remix) [09:47] ------------------------------------------------------------ 34:02 min / 46,7 MB Styles: 100% minimal. This five track EP represents perfectly what OCP is all about, combining elements of ambient and glitch through to the modest sounds of dub techno and stripping it right back to the core, we're left with an understated and refrained collection of minimal yet utterly involving music. Perhaps what is most striking about OCP's compositions is their unashamedly electronic nature, you are never in doubt as to the source of the sounds, the analogue circuitry practically drips through the speaker cones, which to my mind is very satisfying indeed. When I first joined Anna, she and her performers were exploring the farthest edges of life, the final moments when a person passes from life into something other than life. I went on to create a music that shared this exploration of extremities, working only with very high and very low sounds. Sounds that approach the point where they are no longer sound. The combination of high and low sounds, with almost no middle range, creates a unique psycho-acoustic effect where each listener can experience their own imagined music. The original work involves very raw and intense emotions, where the performers used their bodies to express the last moments of actually having a body. To support this I made a music that can be experienced not only with one's ears, but with one's entire body. Once this is established, the piece transitions to a music where the body is of no matter. The sounds used are from basic physical elements: air and water, glass and wood, and breath. These sounds are transformed and modified to the point where they are no longer recognized. The installation at Diapason will be a sound-only, site-specific, re- imagining of the original work. The time frame will be expanded to enable a closer hearing of this transition from life to something other than life, from sound to something other than sound. BIO: Miguel Frasconi uses glass objects, electronics, keyboards, and "de- evolved" instruments to create music that sounds from a uniquely imagined tradition. His glass instruments have been called "a beautiful menagerie of pealing contraptions" (Time Out NY), while his music has been called "lyrical and stormy" (New York Times). His recent activities include a new score for choreographer Alonzo King, performances with electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick, a newly commissioned work for Gamelan Son of Lion, and concerts with the composers collective Ne(x)tworks. He is currently artist in residence at Harvestworks electronic media studios. ABOUT DIAPASON http://www.diapasongallery.org Diapason gallery for sound and intermedia was founded by composer Michael J. Schumacher in 2001 and its program builds on the efforts of Schumacher?s previous sound space, Studio Five Beekman, founded in 1996. Diapason is the sole venue in New York City and one of few internationally dedicated to the presentation of multi-channel sound installation where composers and sound artists can realize their work for an interested public. By providing an optimum listening environment, two high quality multi-channel sound systems, a regular audience, and a place for experimentation, Diapason seeks to engage composers and the public in dialogue about the place of contemporary music and sound practice in a broader cultural context. Diapason is supported by NYSCA, the Phaedrus Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, The Trust for Mutual Understanding, Kirk Radke, and by generous individuals. Diapason is a 501(c)3 organization. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A rare 1989 interview with Nancarrow will be screened, and independent curator Beth Sellars will present a brief overview of the two-year survey of exhibitions in the Northwest honoring Trimpin. Reception, booksigning, and a conversation between the artist and architect Michael Maltzan ART CATALOGUES at MOCA Pacific Design Center 8687 Melrose Avenue West Hollywood, California 90069 (310) 289-5223 artcatalogues at moca.org i would like to present a new sound work related to moca's recent exhibition of paintings by mark rothko. the audio piece will not only attempt to form a kind of reflection of rothko's paintings; but will use the color schemes in all eight of the paintings to generate a score for the composition. fragments of morton feldman's rothko chappel composition will also participate. it will be an 8 channel work that will activate the space in an attempt to relate the activity of looking to the activity of listening. the soundwork is not intended as a soundtrack for the paintings; but a new work generated from them. i used the colors in all the paintings to generate a score for my own parts, and also had jacob (Danzinger) listen to feldman's rothko chapel piece on headphones and try to play violin along with it without listening to the work first or practicing. everything will then be cut up and pasted together so that the conceptual parts are the skeleton that the final form is built on... kind of like taking an early sol lewitt cube piece and wrapping twine around it until the original form is almost invisible... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. we are also now accepting proposals for full editions of our guest-curated series. send proposals or material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! Neil and Tomas Jirku first met in Toronto nearly seven years ago when they performed on the same bill at what was Jirku's debut performance. The two easily found affinity in their sounds and at the time they even boldly determined that techno music need not be faster than 120 beats per minute. Despite deviations from this through the course of those years we find ourselves with an album which indeed rarely exceeds this pre-determined mark. The pace of the music at this tempo aided by the music's structure seems to dissolve the listener's reference to time in an almost disorientating effect. As the music progresses one can hear the effects of the creator's hand fine-tuning the elements of the composition in search of balance. Created as an event to occur only at the time of it's performance, this album, thankfully recorded by Neil, gives us a look into the artist's process. The rawness of the result is a relief from the overproduced, sterile precision of computer music that is overabundant these days. The abstention from addition post-production beyond Neil's own self-determined processing allows us to hear the music as the creator intended, because there is no purpose in allowing the creators work to be altered in some misguided goal. The artwork for the album, a collaboration between Tomas Jirku and Greg Smith, brings together multiple printing techniques in a resourceful and unique package. Greg is an architect based between Toronto and Los Angeles who, along with Neil, co-curates the Vague Terrain online digital arts quarterly. purchase : $15 USD including shipping worldwide from riversof.com (More retail locations coming soon. It is more a collection of different quotations in doing with such these topics. The result is quite different to his previous work, which was more noise- and random-oriented. This new section is quite a try to arrange such these things - from totally abstract elements to poetic narrative parts. Different ideas come out from an abstractness and get into an often sparely melodic part - otherwise a changeover from the lightness of sound into a deep and noise drone, which is interrupted by fragement spikes of sound. Neudeck is working only with software, sinus generators, self produced soundequipment and lately with the sidrassi organ (totally crazy tool). So I am often surprised by the result, when it sounds like a field recording. But when I see, how he works in his nerdy laboratory, I understand that his output can irritate. liner notes by Heribert Friedl www.con-v.org ____________________________________________________________________________________ Need a quick answer? We'll see how long I can keep it going. Oh, and by the way, Kim, myself and others have "best of 2006" lists posted online now, and can be accessed from either the SIRR.ecords or and/OAR websites because we are co-sponsoring a "best of" page this year. The page will be up until early March, and more lists should still be on the way. http://www.sirr-ecords.com/ http://www.and-oar.org/ Cheers, Dale -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Los Angeles Times The genre-defying festival, TwoTwenty/OneTen, curated by the CalArts Center for Experiments in Art, Information and Technology, offers three evenings of new improvised music and multimedia. Opening the festival is Miya Masaoka, the Alpert Award-winning composer, sound artist and koto player. Masaoka's work incorporates field recordings and sounds generated by insects, the physiological processes of plants, and the human brain. This year?s fest also brings programs from the Sicilian composer and improviser Domenico Sciajno, whose practice focuses on a process generating or modifying sounds through visual parameters and processes; and Tokyo-based sound artist, Toshi Nakamura, who uses his signature ?no-input mixing board? to develop controlled improvisations despite the "accidental" nature of his feedback system. Each artist will perform a solo set, and then a second set with Los Angeles-based improvisors Hans W. Koch (25 Jan.), David Rothbaum (26 Jan.) and Lewis Keller and Carole Kim (27 Jan.). For this experiment i've decided to putting aside every kind of post-production or editing process to find the outmost of digital improvisation. This music did not treat the recording medium as a stand-in for an absent performer, or a document of a musical performance, but as a vital and unique territory for exploration in and of itself. Tape music does not worship the technology with which it was produced, or the medium in which it is contained. It is a sonic inquiry, sculpting a new kind of music from the entire palette of sound. The San Francisco Tape Music Festival began eight years ago in true underground fashion in a warehouse in Oakland. A small collective of composers wired the space with their own equipment to hear their favorite works in surround sound and experiment themselves with multichannel composition. Since then they have become one of the premiere presenters of fixed media music on the West Coast. SFTMF would like the thank the following organizations for their generous support: ODC, TheatreWorks, Goethe-Institut San Francisco, American Composers Forum San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (Subito), The San Francisco Tape Music Collective, and sfSound. A U F A B W E G E N RELEASE INFO CD, standard jewel case release date: 18.01.2007 artist: NID title: ?Plate Tectonics? order no.: aatp13, time: 50:44 min, 500 copies order from: zipo at aufabwegen.com Crwaling back into the wound: NID 1995 ? 2007. NID is an experimental group whose aim it is to challenge conventional concepts and structures of electronic music by experimenting with the source of sounds. The music is created on the spot, making each performance a genuine and unrepeatable event. It has been described as moving sound-objects, improvised electronic noise, or broodng ambient music. It has been compared to an underwater-journey, a pathway to the inner self. Given enough volumne, it certainly affects the body as well as the mind. In which way remains open to the listener?s psyche. NID was formed in 1995. Over the years the core-members have performed in art-galleries, rock-clubs, bars, water-reservoirs, cinemas, as well as at industrial and electronic festivals and in record shops. In 1998 they were invited to play onboard the MS Stubnitz when it was anchored in the harbour of Stockholm as part of the ?European Culture Capital? activities. They were also involved in the 2001 Six And More & R:IP jubilees, improvising with 30 other electronic free-jazz musicians. As for the group name A ?nid? is a curse or insult with homosexual connotation that was frequently in use in the Viking age. It brought a depth to the concept of honour and shame. It could be used as a challenge or simply to ridicule another (which was a challenge per se). It could reveal anyone else to be no better than he was, and it undermined social structures. NID disbanded in 2006. Chris Sidgell continues in various projects, most notably his solo project B-Tong. J?rgen Eberhard releases music under the name Feine Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim. This is NID?s one and only proper CD release. The sound on this work may appeal to fans of Lustmord, New Blockaders or collage post-industrial in general/experimental ambient. The music on this CD was recorded live in Arnheim by Mars Wellink (Vance Orchestra). The cover was done by Katja Wahl. There is a limited 75 numbered mailorder only edition that comes with an extra 3?CDR featuring exclusive music by the remaining projects B-Tong and Feine Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim. www.nid-musik.com A U F A B W E G E N RELEASE INFO LP black vinyl release date: 26.12.2006 artist: FEAR FALLS BURNING title: ?The Rainbow Mirrors A Burning Heart? order no.: aatp17, time: 40 min, 300 handnumbered copies Fear Falls Burning - With all the power, noise, aggression and subtlety that comes from a single man performing real-time on the electric guitar through a maze of pedal effects, notes and chords shifting and multiplying over time into dense and trance-inducing walls of sound. Fear Falls Burning succeeds in uncovering a new language that stretches time and brings the listener to the edge multiple times, entrancing with the repetitive yet pure sonic presence of the electric guitar. Fear Falls Burning sets himself apart from the current drone scene by using different techniques and an expansive collection of pedal effects. The zen-induced result of a harsh method of musical effacement: Lonely tones drift through harmoniously singing clouds of sustain, black streams of crunching distortion flow underneath heavenly harmonics, minuscule melodies appear and drift off. With no overdubs or post-production effects involved, the compositions progress in an organic and natural way, giving the music a special feeling and soul that is missing from many recordings these days. This is Fear Falls Burning. Fear Falls Burning is the new solo project by Dirk Serries from Vidna Obmana. The FFB sound may appeal to friends of Sunn O))), Boris, Earth, Troum, Robert Fripp and all connaisseurs of heavy guitar drone layers! www.fearfallsburning.be OUT NOW: Fear Falls Burning - the rainbow mirrors a burning heart LP Finally released on the German Auf Abwegen label. This is the registration of an exclusive concert fear falls burning performed on October 13th 2005 at Kulturbunker M?lheim in K?ln (Germany), commissioned by Auf Abwegen. This LP covers 2 variations on fear falls burning's method of droning, side A features the most minimal and static drone he did so far while side B brings out his most wilful and in-your-face approach to distorted and powerful chords. Rain on Friday and Saturday didn't prevent a feeling that you could cut the air with a knife. Some of you may think it would be uncomfortable, and still, I have to say that I love the changing seasons. Melbourne does them so well. Thanks to Matt R?sner (WA) and Shoeb Ahamad (ACT) for travelling to play at last week's wonderful shows. Shoeb and I played together at the ?Drawing Of Sound? night last Thursday, curated by Zac Keiller. After that, the third Symbiosis Listening Focus at West Space featured Matt, Joe Talia and myself. The space looked great and all the performances were well received. Sunday saw us at the East Brunswick Club for another set of great sounds from Robin Fox, Shoeb and Matt. Thanks to all the artists, both West Space and East Brunswick Club for their support, and of course, thank you to all of you who came to the shows. On a personal note, the wonderful Wandering Ear label has just released a remix compilation, based on sounds from their first release 'Thaw'. My track, "Thaw Cracks The Ice" is included. This is misguided. Children should not learn productivity software suited for office workers. They should make things, they should communicate, they should explore the Internet. In short, they should learn learning, which includes the passion to learn. The One Laptop per Child project is guided by the belief that you can eliminate poverty with education. It aims to engage children in their own education as well as peer-to-peer learning, by equipping every child with a connected laptop with features you have never dreamed of. By doing this globally, at a very large scale, and as a non-profit association, the birth of the $100 laptop is feasible. At least six countries, three continents and five million children will be involved in the launch. -- O P E N is a joint program of the UC Digital Arts Research Network and the Design | Media Arts department at UCLA. I hope you enjoy the new issue and as always we welcome all feedback, comments & proposals. Furthernoise issue January 2007 http://www.furthernoise.org/index.php?iss=60 "Memoryscape with Toby Butler and Lewis Gibson" (feature) Memoryscape are sound walks that take place at two of the most contrasting stretches of river in London. DRIFTING begins in the peaceful surroundings of Hampton Court Palace and DOCKERS ends up in the rarely explored industrial landscape of the Greenwich peninsula. Mark Mclaren interviews Toby Butler and Lewis Gibson the artists behind the work and starts by asking how memoryscape was recorded and realised. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=150 feature by Mark McLaren "A little Hungry - The Caution Curves" (review) Lets cut to the chase? This may take some time... last thing they did (The Caution Curves CD) was really a surprise, of the cup of tea brought to you in bed variety, nice, thoughtful, warm and sweet. But now I know what to expect... so I shall furrow my brow deeply in a serious music reviewer frown, grit my jaded teeth, prepare to be disapointed and insert the disk. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=151 review by Mark Francombe "Duae - Pablo Reche and Miguel Angel Tolosa" (review) A collaboration between sound artists Pablo Reche (Buenos Aires) and Ubebeot (Madrid) which explores "post-industrial landscapes and isolated urban spaces". http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=157 review by Mark McLaren "Hades by Marc Behrens and Paulo Raposo" (review) In Hades Marc Behrens and Paulo Raposo take us on a seafaring journey to the imaginary underworld, witnessing an old sunken boat being wrenched from its watery grave gave them the idea to create a sonic journey towards the shadowy depths. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=154 review by Mark McLaren "noTnoTesnoTrhyThms by Henry Gwiazda" (review) In the world of audio technology, 3D sound is often used as a selling point for all manner of weird and wonderful technologies. To Henry Gwiazda, however, the promise of "virtual audio" and placing sound in three-dimension space offers a world of possibilities. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=159 review by Alex Young "Sprawl London - Featuring Robert Hampson and Simon Longo" (review) Sprawl - London Sunday 15th December Featuring Robert Hampson and Simon Longo. Despite the bleak wet Sunday night and collective end of year lethagy, the snug environs of London's Charterhouse Bar seemed the perfect setting to warm the cockles with the sonic perambulations of Simon Longo and Robert Hampson. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=155 review by Roger Mills "The IfIf - Ollo" (review) Described as Sydney's own 'Fun Boy 2' Alex Crowfoot and Lars Chresta aka Ollo have created a electro downbeat tour de force in their new album The IfIf. Released through Groovescooter in Australia and 12 Apostles in Europe & the USA, this sparkling array of tracks veers between electro pop, break beat dub & sonic art. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=149 review by Roger Mills "We All Fall Down - Off The Sky & The Circular Ruins" (review) Any collaboration between Jason Corder (Off The Sky: samples and loops) and Anthony Paul Kerby (The Circular Ruins: synths, treatments, samples) should prove interesting, at the least. Mixing Corder's quasi-whimsical idiosyncratic pops, clicks, glitch and beats with Kerby's darker textural ambient landscapes yields many things, but boring is certainly not on the radar. http://www.furthernoise.org/page.php?ID=156 review by Bill Binkelman Roger Mills Editor, Furthernoise to unsubscribe please go to http://www.furthernoise.org/unsubscribe.php?u=3&ID= From derek at umatic.nl Sat Jan 27 16:44:23 2007 From: derek at umatic.nl (Derek Holzer) Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2007 22:44:23 +0100 Subject: [Microsound-announce] Pure Data goes Back to School @ Pickled Feet, Berlin Message-ID: <45BBC7B7.7060605@umatic.nl> *Pure Data goes Back to School* Saturday 10 February 2007 14:00 - 20:00 Pickled Feet Linienstrasse 54 Mitte, Berlin DE U2, Rosa-Luxemburg-Pl. Because the programming is done visually, many artists find it a more intuitive tool than traditional text-oriented programming languages. However, many newcomers to PD miss the chance to learn the "grammar" and "vocabulary" of this visual language, and this results in confusion about how PD actually handles sounds and images. This one-day workshop will give an introduction to Pure Data for beginners and for experienced users who might have missed some of the fundamentals of the program. We will construct a basic sound synthesizer, and use this exercise to go over the deeper mysteries of what makes PD tick. Time will also be set aside for responding to participants' questions about their own PD audio projects. ---What to bring: * Essential: 1) Laptop running Linux, OS X or Windows 2) Pure Data installed from: http://at.or.at/hans/pd/installers.html 3) Soundcard (internal or external, quality a non-issue) 4) Headphones (!!!!) 5) EUR 10 participation fee * Recommended/Suggested: 1) MIDI controller/keyboard 2) Microphone 3) USB Joystick 4) Your own soundfiles (WAV, AIFF format) 5) Your own PD audio projects for feedback ---About the Teacher Derek Holzer [USA 1972] began working with Pure Data in 2001.
