Among the events... I was very honored to perform in a 1000 year old zen buddhist temple outside of Tokyo which was amazing. Thank you to all the curators and organizers involved in this tour and all the old and new friends I got to see. I hope to be back in in Japan in 2007. amusing story from tokyo: being in shibuya on halloween night ... i went into a restaurant at 8:30pm and by the time i left at 11:00pm... the halloween decorations in many store fronts had already been removed and crews of busy workers were quickly assembling huge garish christmas displays. now THAT is efficiency. I am happy to announce that while in Japan I was informed that my collaborative project Specification.Fifteen with Taylor Deupree based on the seascapes by Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto was awarded one of 5 honorable mentions by the jury of the Transmediale. 07 Award. Date: Wednesday November 8 Venue: STEIM, Utrechtsedwarsstraat 134, Amsterdam Time: 20.30 hour Entrance: 5 euro Reservations and more information: knock at steim.nl or 020-6228690 Note: the order suggested here is not necessarily the order in which the artists will appear. 1. Danish artist Rasmus J?rgensen works with the extended voice and physical theater. In his performances speech patterns become odd singing and ordinary gestures spill into twisted dance. He has an MA in Composition from Mills College in Oakland, USA, and a BA in music from The University of Oslo, Norway. In addition to voice and composition, he has studied theater, performance art and dance/choreography. He is currently based in Oslo, but performs frequently internationally. J?rgensen will perform two pieces: 'idle hands' and 'men in chairs'. http://kunst.no/rasmusjoergensen/ 2. The electronic improvisations by pianist Sonsoles Alonso and Jorrit Tamminga range from chaotic eclectic to intimate soundscapes. Alonso uses the entire piano as instrument, Tamminga transforms and manipulates these sounds, emancipating the role of the sound. Sonsoles Alonso is a versatile pianist. The past ten years, she has forged, from The Netherlands, where she lives since 1996, an impressive career with solo performances both in The Netherlands and abroad, multidisciplinary projects and concerts with other musicians and ensembles. Besides interpreting a both classical and contemporary repertoire she improvises with other musicians and explores the possibilities of live-electronics. Recently she has been heard as a soloist during the Festival Traces of Voices (Tilburg), Festival Punto Aparte (Spain), Randspiele Festival (Berlin), EULEC (L?neburg, Germany), AKBank (Istanbul), Treveszaal (Second Chamber, The Hague), German Embassy in The Hague, Goethe Institute Boston (US), Deep Listening Space of Pauline Oliveros (New Vanguard Series, New York) and with different ensembles during the Gaudeamus Week, Suite Muziekweek, Festival Boulevard (Den Bosch), Festival Spazio Musica (Cagliari, Italy), 'Week van de Hedendaagse Kamermuziek', Festival 'Tango ? la carte' (Alkmaar) and the Ferienkurse f?r Neue Musik (Darmstadt, Germany). Jorrit Tamminga (1973) studied Music & Technology at the Utrecht School of the Arts and Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. During this studies he concentrated on electronic composition, live electronics and sound synthesis. In most of his works electronics play an important role. He composed works for speakers only (Barst), string quartet en live electronics (Powerchords), saxophone and live electronics (Klep Dicht!), carillon and soundtrack (Inside Out) and gamelan and live electronics (Tijdverspilling). As a performer Tamminga plays live electronics in several ensembles such as Herautronique with trumpetplayer Hans Leeuw and a duo with Sonsoles Alonso. Together with Martijn Buser he forms the dj-duo Rumor Soundsystem. Tamminga teaches electronic music at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and sounddevelopment at Music & Technology. 3. Incidental trio Audrey Chen, Seamus Cater & Jeff Carey will combine the extreme acoustic sounds of Chen on voice and cello with the extreme electronic sounds of Carey on laptop, glued together by Cater on room sampling and harmonica. Seamus Cater is an English musician and composer resident in Amsterdam. His musical output spans works for modern dance, improvised electro acoustic music, jazz which is almost straight ahead, and new song forms in electronica. He plays lots of different kinds of harmonica (big, small, chromatic, diatonic), and he plays the laptop. http://www.seacater.com/ Playing music in many contexts, as a computer musician, electro-acoustic composer and improviser, Jeff Carey's music ranges many aspects of computer music from non real-time acousmatic composition, electro-acoustic composition, to improvisation and performs in a number of units such as Office-R(6), USA/USB, the acclaimed feedback project 87 Central, and N-Collective related projects. Having spent years carrying around too much heavy gear playing no-input mixer he is happy to trade for a laptop: with feel that is more organic than digital -- drones, gentle and otherwise multiply against hyperactive noise bursts and crackling phrasing. http://www.radiantslab.com/87central/ Audrey Chen is a Chinese-American musician and performance artist born outside of Chicago in 1976. Using the cello, voice and analog electronics, Chen?s work focuses on the combination and layering of traditional and extended techniques. A large component of her music is improvised and her approach to this is often extremely personal and visceral. Her performance work incorporates sound, movement and simple visual/sculptural concepts. Chen performs solo and in collaboration with a wide number of musicians and dancers. Some current projects include duos with Gianni Gebbia, Tatsuya Nakatani, Alessandro Bosetti and Nate Wooley. Chen is currently based in Baltimore, MD, USA where she is a member of the Red Room and High Zero collective, an on-going series and festival devoted to experimental music. http://www.audreychen.com/ 4. Robert van Heumen (1968/NL) is electronic composer and musician, making electronic music in the studio and on stage. Recent compositions include the 5.1 composition '12 Bullets' for STEIM's Noiseroom, music for the choreography 'STAU' by Anouk van Dijk, and the audio-visual composition 'Solitude' (with multi-media artist Arnoud Noordegraaf) based on a book by Paul Auster. He is active as a member of the electro-acoustic sextet OfficeR, electronic audio-visual trio SKIF++ and part of the N Collective, and has shared the stage with Michel Waisvisz, Jeff Carey, Oguz Buyukberber, Anne LaBerge, Guy Harries, Daniel Schorno, Luc Houtkamp, Roddy Schrock and Nate Wooley. Van Heumen will present part one of his 5.1 surround composition 'Fury (after anger)', commisioned by the Sonic Circuits festival 2006. http://hardhatarea.com { the Local Stop concert series is curated by Robert van Heumen } To unsubscribe from this list please go to http://list.xs4all.nl/mailman/listinfo/steim STEIM (studio for electro instrumental music) (studio voor elektro instrumentale muziek) Achtergracht 19 1017 WL Amsterdam The Netherlands Tel: 020-6228690 Fax: 020-6264262 Email: knock at steim.nl Website:?www.steim.nl -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... M. Krebs delivers five solid compositions of electroacoustic/ambient artistry with "The Blue Concubine". A mark of his signature style, Krebs melds and juxtaposes organic sounds with electronic sounds to build a highly listenable album of deep electro-organic ambiance. Applying his own unique take on contemporary musique concr?te, manipulations of concrete sounds and abstract electronics are woven into a collection of richly textured works full of intensity and emotion. This is an album of flux and contrasts, where the comforting sounds of chimes and bells vie against dense electronic drones; where noisy, dissonant collages meet moments of choral-like concord; where traces of phonography intermingle with processed digital sounds; and where the shifting atonalities of ambient noise symbolize the unpredictability of this kind of music. http://www.con-v.org __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Robert Lippok is a Berlin based musician and visual artist. In 1995, he co-founded the group To Rococo Rot with his older brother Ronald and Stefan Schneider. They have released six albums to date and Robert has four solo releases. Warm tones and a 'soundtrack' like feel were always evident in the TRR sound and Robert has kept this alive in his solo works as well. Robert's sound is wonderful fusion of contemporary electronic pop and micro-minimalism...that can easily suit a club or a gallery setting. (you could also, if you are so inclined, drop me a note to let me know you've filled it in, so i can get a vague idea if anyone reads these playlists...) this week's edition of framework:afield was produced in seattle, usa, by robert millis and steve barsotti. for more info you can see their respective websites at http://www.climaxgoldentwins.com and http://www.kazbar.org. robert says: 'In Late Summer 2005, I co-curated (with writer Fionn Meade) a large new media/sound installation exhibition in Seattle, called In Resonance. Contributing artists included Steve Roden, Thurston Moore, Toshiya Tsunoda, Jesse Paul Miller, Jim Haynes, Stephen Vitiello, and Jennifer West. Part of the intention of In Resonance was its focus as a group sound show. Sound is difficult to contain, it leaks and mingles and overlaps in persistent and naughty ways. We decided to embrace this, and rather than isolate the different installations we aimed to let them resonate together to create an over-arching soundscape that could be experienced in addition to the individual installations. I asked members of Seattle's Phonographer's Union to walk through the exhibition with their recording equipment and document how they experienced the show--from ambient sounds to sonic details, from visitor comments to malfunctions and conversations--we then burned instant CDRs from these recordings that we sold to visitors. Each phonographer produced startlingly different takes on the same source material. This edition of Framework:afield is an amalgamation of those recordings that phonographer and sound artist Steve Barsotti (www.kazbar.org) and I put together using various chance operations.' this edition will be available for live streaming and podcast from http://www.resonancefm.com/framework until 15.11.06. again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! framework 31 nevill road london n16 8sl uk framework at talk21.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework intro submissions: 1) take yourself and an audio recording device to a location of your choice 2) record for AT LEAST 1 minute before you - 3) read the following text: welcome to framework. framework is a show consecrated to field recording, and it's use in composition. field recording, phonography, the art of sound-hunting; open your ears and listen! 4) continue your recording for AT LEAST 2 minutes after you've finish speaking 5) send the recording on any format to the address above, or as an mp3 via email thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Symbiosis Listening Focus .02 Fourcolor (Japan, 12k/Apestaartje) Qua Post @ Loop 23 Meyers Place Melbourne Sunday 12th November Tickets $10 on the door only. Doors open at 8pm. Fourcolor is the alias of 31 year old Japanese artist Keiichi Sugimoto. He began performing as Fourcolor in 1998 and has released on labels such as 12k and Apestaartje. Four Color has performed with artists such as Mitchell Akiyama, Christophe Charles, Waki, Ogurusu Norihide, World's End Girlfriend, and Oren Ambarchi. In 1999 Keiichi formed the group Minamo and in 2002 he formed Fonica. Both groups are still active and garner large critical acclaim around the world. They have released albums on 12k, Apestaartje and been featured in the Bip_Hop Generation compilations. And as if that isn?t enough, Keiichi runs the label Cubic Music. Fourcolor is the sound of water trickling over the rocks of a stream. Soft guitar tones are combined with tiny crackles that captivate and delight. Fourcolor will be joined by Melbourne artists Qua (Surgery records, Headz) and Post (Preservation). Cyclic Defrost said of Qua?s most recent release, ?Painting Monsters On Clouds?: ?Qua?s developed a fine sensibility to his work, an understanding of the way that melody, rhythm and texture can be used in creative ways to illustrate a theme or feeling. Tracks?have an amazingly visual quality to them? It will be James Wilkinson?s first performance under his new Post project so treat him nicely. James will be familiar to many of you as the trombone player in High Pass Filter and Bucketrider, as well as setting the world on fire with his group Snuff Puppets. Symbiosis Listening Focus. Orphan Sound System has always been the test ground of slash and burn beat maceration, electro-acoustic politics, ethnic short-wave struggle, head fuck of identity spasm band, some kind of nasty reincarnation of Pierre Henry infected by a Flatbush saturday summer night transposed to the streets of Jakarta during an anti-suharto riot and living to tell the story. Now we have the tight drop-kick beats of live percussionist Florian Blank and ritual metal-percussionist Caspar Nilsson Wolf working around my own laptop which has become a kind of universal signal re-coder of sorts, a second brain almost (i fear, often, better than the first one). Audience involvement is not only tolerated but even slightly encouraged. Music is the genii-us. Nov. 16, 10-ish pm until we drop. See you there. djalma primordial science performs ?mirrorminded curiositease? November 15, 2006. 21 Uhr. A celebration of the nevher Ende indaFl?sse. ?I?d lie as quiet as a moss And I?d frozen up and pray for thawe. Three times in all. I was the pet of everyone then. A princeable girl? James Joyce, giant of modern literature, continually on the verge of becoming blind, named his only daughter Lucia. She was his mirrorminded, cross-eyed saint of vision. Through his thick ?fathom glasses? he watched her dance, setting fires left and right, fueling the creation of Finnegans Wake, burning her own tethers to reality. ?And weary I go back to you my cold father, my cold mad father, my cold mad feary father, till the nearsight of the mere size of him, the moyles and moyles of it, moananoaning, makes me seasilt saltsick and I rush ? HASSLE HOUND Hassle Hound are a benign tornado, roaring and twisting through the best and most eclectic of record collections, ripping out and tearing off ideas and samples. They plunder for a reason - to make fragile and lovely music, often charmingly odd but with a gleeful melancholy, off-kilter but on the ball. There is a childlike quality to their music, but the child in question must be a musical prodigy with a wry sense of humour and a maturity beyond his years. They are not afraid to be beautiful. Machines and beats are caressed into soft humanity by delicate vocals, the boisterous cuddle of eccentrically played instruments and ingenious guitar patterns. Here are wistful love songs which also sound like the greatest James Bond theme ever (if those films had ever been made by a 60's new wave Czech director). Cartoon oneirics slapstick their way across lush countryside and toddle through town, favourite-uncle drunk and beaming expansively. Trying to pin them down is like drinking beer with a fork. They coin new genres like other bands do sound checks - too much funky not enough, crofter dub, genial noise, surf and turf guitar, carousel gothic, collagetronica. If Harry Partch had made music for ice-cream vans it might have been like some of these affable inventions. http://www.staubgold.com --------------------------- SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE So. 15.11.2006, doors: 20.00h Kulturbunker M?lheim Berliner Str. 20 51063 K?ln http://www.kulturbunker-muelheim.de Spires That In The Sunset Rise (Chicago, secreteye) -- Outsider Folk -- Was ist in Amerika los?! Welcome to the New America! SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE is a four-woman free folk band from Chicago whose musical palette includes the cello, bul bul tarang, various drums and bells, ecstatic yelps and cackles, and all manner of plectra.. Their eclectic, outsider folk has drawn comparisons to Comus, Current 93 and The Raincoats. "Spires That in the Sunset Rise are a Chicago-based, all-female quartet whose ecstatic, communal psych-folk draws on the same fragrant smoke that fed the otherworldly likes of such vintage acts as Comus, Jan Dukes De Grey, or COB, as well as on the crypto-ethnicity of the Sun City Girls' Carnival Folklore Resurrection series or the Gothic spiritualism of Current 93. On their second album Four Winds the Walker (Secret Eye Records), the foursome emit such inspired gusts of collective fire that they resemble a witches' coven almost as much as a band, their shadow-draped music seeming to issue forth organically from the soil like a sulfurous hot spring. When operating at their peak, which is the case on much of Four Winds the Walker, Spires That in the Sunset Rise can invoke the unbounded, ageless music one might expect to hear emanating from the deepest forest, as mysterious black-cloaked figures dance around the fire-ring."- Pitchfork Media SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE record for the Secret Eye record label, releasing "Four Winds The Walker" in 2005. The new Spires release, "This Is Fire", will be out on Secret Eye in October 2006. They also have one previous release on Eclipse Records/Graveface. November 2006, 20.00h Kulturbunker M?lheim Berliner Str. 20 51063 K?ln http://www.kulturbunker-muelheim.de INFORMATIONEN Darsteller: Fred Frith, Joey Baron, Ciro Battista, Iva Bittova, Jean Derome, Tim Hodgkinson u.v.m. Regie: Nicolas humber &amb; Werner Penzel Musik: Fred Frith Jahr: 1989 FSK: o.A. ----------------- a u f a b w e g e n p.o.box 100152 50441 cologne germany http://www.aufabwegen.com ----------------- From mlist at symbiosis.com.au Tue Nov 14 04:18:11 2006 From: mlist at symbiosis.com.au (Simon Hampson) Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2006 20:18:11 +1100 Subject: [Microsound-announce] Symbiosis Playlist - 8th November 2006 Message-ID: Symbiosis Wednesday 10pm - 12am Melbourne, Australia 102.7 FM Triple R Streaming live online at: http://www.rrr.org.au/ Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/symbiosisradio/ Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/coishii with Simon Hampson A journey through experimental sound textures and rhythms. Unfortunately a family member passed away so things have been hectic. The second Symbiosis Listening Focus took place on Sunday night at Loop. This time around our guests were the Japanese artist Keiichi Sugimoto, playing under his solo guise, Fourcolor, along with Melbourne artists Qua and Post. The performances were a treat and a great way to continue the Listening Focus series. The next one is on 20th January 2007 with Matt Rosner (WA), launching his new release on Apestaartje. Last week's show was a quiet one. The mix had some new releases from the online and offline worlds, as well as a few tracks from Fourcolor. This week: 15th November 2006: Canadian artist Tim Hecker chats about his new record for Kranky, "Harmony In Ultraviolet" and Chris Clark tells us a little bit about "Body Riddle", released last month on Warp. In the pipeline: Christopher Willits, Janek Schaefer, Scott Smallwood, Accretions Label Focus Have a great week, Simon. Make Art offers performances, exhibitions, lectures and workshops, focused on the blurred line between art and software programming. The event is dedicated to artists who create their own tools, and apply the same rules to art as to free software development. We're currently seeking new, innovative FLOSS based works and projects: performances, lectures, software presentations, installations... 'Outside in the slow night by the light of the moon, the wind slowly shakes things which, swaying, cast shadows. Perhaps it's merely hanging laundry from a higher floor, but the shadows in themselves don't know the clothes, and they impalpably flutter in hushed harmony with all things. [...] And without seeing, without thinking, my eyes now closed on my non-existent slumber, I wonder what words can truly describe moonlight. The ancients would say that it is silvery or white. But this supposed whiteness actually consists of many colors. Were I to get out of bed and look past the cold panes, I know I'd see that in the lofty air the moonlight is of a grayish white, blued by a subdued yellow: that over the various, unequally dark rooftops in bathes the submissive buildings with a black white and floods the red brown of the highest clay tiles with a colorless color. At the end of the street - a placid abyss where the naked stones are unevenly rounded - there's no color besides a blue which perhaps comes from the grey of the stones. The horizon is almost a dark blue, different from the black blue in the deepest sky. On the window where it reflects, the moonlight is a black yellow.' Free and open, the event mobilises a national network of artists and engages with communities from all backgrounds ? placing sonic art and the people who make it in direct contact with the public. Expo steps out from traditional venues and into spaces that lie at the heart of the community - inspiring practitioners and the public to reconsider their environments. After the success of last year?s highly eclectic event in Manchester the focus for 2007 shifts to Plymouth and the South West of England where Expo will be presented in partnership with the University of Plymouth's i-DAT (Institute of Digital Art and Technology). This weekend of performance, exhibition and presentation will take place between 22-25 June 2007 across a variety of public venues in Plymouth including a selection of outdoor performance spaces, club spaces and an historic architectural space. The weekend will highlight the broadest possible range of approaches and thinking that surround the sonic arts. Call for Commission Proposals We are once again pleased to offer a festival commission for the creation of new work. We are seeking proposals for this new commission that will be presented in the large upstairs space of the New Cooperage building, Royal William Yard, Plymouth on the 23/24 June. A total budget of ?4000 will be made available for the production of the selected work. Call for Submissions Submissions are sought in all forms of sonic art including real-time interactive works, improvisation with technology, experimental electronica, noise, instrumental/electroacoustic mixes, acousmatic music, sound installations, environmental sound work, performances, internet-based creative work, sound and image works, conceptual sound art and cross-arts work. We welcome submissions of all kinds incorporating sound as a major element. Call for Papers On the final day of Expo the Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) at the University of Plymouth will host the Expo conference; a day of sonic art related papers and research presentations. The guest speaker on this day of research presentations will be Professor Leigh Landy, Research Chair in Contemporary Music and Director of the Music, Technology and Research Group (MTI) at Leicester De Montfort University and editor of the Organised Sound international journal of music and technology. The calls for commission proposals, artistic submissions and papers are now open at our website. Email: simon at symbiosis.com.au -- Hi folks, This week we heard all about Chris Clark's third release on Warp, 'Body Riddle'. He has dropped his first name and simply adopted Clark. Whatever, it sounds good. In the second hour, Tim Hecker joined me to chat about 'Harmony In Ultraviolet', his first record on the Kranky label. This is the Canadian artist's 5th full length and a superb continuation of his static tonal work. In fact, both records are great continuations of each artist's work and are well worth picking up. I guess the unifying theme last night was a no-nonsense approach from both artists. Meaning? They make music. Approach? Whatever interesting sound presents itself. There is a lot coming up between now and the end of the year. Stay tuned. This week: 22nd November 2006: Christopher Willits has a new album out through Ghostly Inernational. "Surf Boundaries" is his second release for Ghostly (and his first full length for them). Think of Christopher's wonderful textural, washed-out guitar tones combined with some vocals and melodies. I'm convinced it is the 21st Century Beach Boys :) He had a chat from his home in San Francisco a few weeks back. Janek Schaefer jumps on the phone from England in the second hour. His new record on Room40, "In The Last Hour", is a treat. Janek incorporates a brilliant sense of space in his work. He's a pappy now and loving it. I know what he means. Tune in to hear our conversation and an exclusive new track that will be released by French magazine 'Fear Drop' this month. THANK YOU! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity presented by patrick mcginley this week's edition of framework:afield was produced in lisbon, portugal by paulo raposo. in his own words: This edition is based on the two latest Pushing the Medium events, which took place in the remote locations of Nodar (Portugal, September), and T?polo (Italy, October). Both events gathered a group of sound artists and others presented with the unique challenge of developing site-specific projects within the 10 day duration. The isolated topography and habitat served as a frame for working in territories outside the view of an increasingly urbanized Europe dominated by centralized cultural activity. The focus centered on the context and location of both places and their geographical circumstances, encouraging collaborative work and open dialogue between the artists, as well as between the artists and the community. I co-produced the event in Portugal while Antonio della Marina produced the Italian event. Mr. John Grzinich produced the first in Estonia back in 2004. The result is intended to be an autonomous radio show, and not a documentary of the "PTM" events. It features collective sound materials produced during the events by the following artists: Yannick Dauby, Murmer, John Grzinich, Noid, Olivier Feraud, Hitoshi Kojo, Alessandro Fogar, Maksims Shentelevs and Paulo Raposo. for more information see http://www.sirr-ecords.com/pauloraposo again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! framework 31 nevill road london n16 8sl uk framework at talk21.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework intro submissions: 1) take yourself and an audio recording device to a location of your choice 2) record for AT LEAST 1 minute before you - 3) read the following text: welcome to framework. framework is a show consecrated to field recording, and it's use in composition. field recording, phonography, the art of sound-hunting; open your ears and listen! 4) continue your recording for AT LEAST 2 minutes after you've finish speaking 5) send the recording on any format to the address above, or as an mp3 via email thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... They discovered a rapport that superseded their different backgrounds. The classically trained cellist now Downtown improviser and former electro punk now cutting edge film composer found they shared a drive to create emotionally charged, passionate music. Friedlander has backed John Zorn, Laurie Anderson and Courtney Love. New York's Erik Friedlander is a unique cellist whose work blurs genre borders. He is a composer and an improviser, a classical musician and a jazzbo. Arranged by Rinus van Alebeek on no budget and in 10 days, the festival hosted field recordists and sound artists from Berlin and around Germany (Hamburg, Frankfurt, Leipzig...). Saturday night took place in Monty's, a cozy Friedrichshain cafe complete with overstuffed sofas. What was lacking in the sound system was made up for by the intimacy of the room, which created a very strong resonance with the audience, and by working with the room tone to create a kind of sonic fullness. read more.... http://blog.myspace.com/macumbista best, derek -- derek holzer ::: http://www.umatic.nl ---Oblique Strategy # 25: "Cascades" From ondasonoraradio at yahoo.es Sun Nov 26 16:45:47 2006 From: ondasonoraradio at yahoo.es (Onda Sonora Radio) Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2006 22:45:47 +0100 (CET) Subject: [Microsound-announce] CONTENTS ONDA SONORA 25-11-06 Message-ID: <111762.79682.qm@web25612.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> ONDA SONORA (Experimental Radio Sessions), Madrid (ES) ?Radio C?rculo de Bellas Artes 100.4 FM Sabados / Saturday. 20h -www.circulobellasartes.com www.ondasonoraradio.com ?Listen any time http://www.artesonoro.org/archives/category/artesonororadio/radio_ondasonora/ CONTENTS ONDA SONORA 25-11-06 01. Q&A follows. This lecture is designed for composition and film students with an emphasis on what it is like in the real world (politics of producers, pecking order, etc.) and how to deal and operate in that environment. Another segment of the lecture which is more score-technique driven and specific to the concept of merging musical supervision and source music with the creation of the score includes working with temp tracks and deciphering needle drops into an original audio production. The final segment focuses on merging sound design with score and how different sound departments need to communicate and interface with each other.? 8P, Diapason ($8) 1026 Avenue of the Americas, 2nd floor New York City, NEW YORK 10018 212 719 4393 fon (subway: 1, 2, 3, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F, N, Q, R, V, W to 42nd Street) info [at] diapasongallery [dot] org for information From mlist at symbiosis.com.au Tue Nov 28 05:24:57 2006 From: mlist at symbiosis.com.au (Simon Hampson) Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2006 21:24:57 +1100 Subject: [Microsound-announce] Symbiosis Playlist - 22nd November 2006 (Christopher Willits, Janek Schaefer) In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Symbiosis Wednesday 10pm - 12am Melbourne, Australia 102.7 FM Triple R Streaming live online at: http://www.rrr.org.au/ Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/symbiosisradio Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/coishii with Simon Hampson A journey through experimental sound textures and rhythms. This week: 29th November 2006: Scott Smallwood was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up at 10,000 feet in elevation in the Colorado Rockies. When Smallwood was 10 years old, he received his first tape recorder, and ever since he has been fascinated by the possibilities of recorded sound. Currently based in New Jersey, Smallwood's work deals with real and abstracted sound textures based on a practice of listening, improvisation, and phonography. Ranging between sonic photographs, abstracted studio pieces, improvisations, and composed structures, his work attempts to deal with the puzzle of pulling signal out of noise. >From 1997-2003, he served as studio engineer and technical director at the iEAR Studios of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he was also on the faculty teaching computer music and technical production. He holds music degrees from Miami University of Ohio, Peabody Conservatory, and Princeton University. Scott is
