Dia aka Diana Bobics is a well-qualified sound organiser and fine artist who cannot be called simply a 'new talent'. She had several critically acclaimed exhibitions/sound installations and live performances in Germany, in her home country, and in other countries, e.g. in Zurich, Vienna, and Bratislava. Her most memorable events so far were at the Haus der Kunst and at the t-u-b-e Gallery for Radiophonic Arts in Munich, at the Hungarian Making New Waves and Ultrasound Festivals, and at the Soundbridges event in Wien. In Cod008, dia carries the listener throughout a utopian, transparent city. Surrealistic, elevated, and well-destructed subatomic "pop particles" clash and loop time after time with each other, and after the monumental and emotional distortions, our lovely and a bit romantic dreamy trip disappears in the clear sine waves (Too Late would have been an entry to the previous release at Cod: the SG Sound Comp). Diana B?bics lives and studies in Munich. The release is available in 320k mp3 format. http://www.bitlabrecords.com/cod/cod008.html all the best, Andras Bitlab Records/Cod _________________________________________________________________________ Red Hot Chili Peppers h?tv?ge INGYEN- a T-Online T?k?ban! 2006. m?rcius 31-?prilis 2. www.t-online.hu From sidhartha1 at hotmail.com Sun Apr 2 11:59:11 2006 From: sidhartha1 at hotmail.com (a k) Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2006 18:59:11 +0300 Subject: [Microsound-announce] new mp3 release on nexsound Message-ID: Comrades, we have new mp3 release on Nexsound Ballrooms of Mars - Cedre /ns46 - a combination of reflective landscapes, shuturred harsh noise themes and lyrical drones is out now. http://www.nexsound.org/ns46.html Andrey Kiritchenko live dates: April 2nd - El perro de la parte de atras del coche (22:00) Puebla,15 / Madrid / Spain April 8th - Worm (21:00) / Rotterdam / the Netherlands Aril 10th - Kraakgeluiden (21:45) / Amsterdam / the Netherlands April 11th - Garage (21:30) / Den Haag / the Netherlands April 14th - Extrapool (20:30) / Nijmegen / the Netherlands Budmo! ... /// www.nexsound.org ///... _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! This production is inspired in the intervention of photography and experimental music (+ info at http://www.pueblonuevo.cl/pn_site/index_news_ex-carcel.htm) which took place in december of 2004. This intervention consisted of the developing of creative processes through the occupation of the Cultural Park "Ex-C?rcel of Valpara?so" and through the fact of giving it a new meaning. Driven by this experience, Alisu took sound samples by experimenting at the Ex-C?rcel. These samples were given to the musicians invited to participate in this project. From all this "Memorias de un Calabozo" was born. We are deeply grateful for the cooperation of all the musicians involved. We especially thank Daniel Nieto for his masterization work. We thank Alfredo Higuera for his cooperation to take the sound samples. We also thank the School of Photography "C?mara L?cida" for inviting us to take part of that experimental sound intervention which moved us to develop this present production, and finally to Lorenzo Mella for the cover photo. "Memorias de un calabozo" is a compilation co-produced by Alisu, www.Impar.cl Netlabel & Pueblo Nuevo Netlabel. Track List (total playing 38 min.): - ?10 a?os y un d?a? Lots of music from the electronica side of things with some loungey beats and minimal grooves, usually ramping up to some nice chill house towards the end of the evening. Everything is upbeat, but I like to keep it interesting and use unique artists in my mixes. I do mix a lot of ambient tracks into what I do, and if it?s glitchy with enough funk and soul I?ll definitely spin it. So if any of you microsounders have material ? vinyl or digital, doesn?t matter, I connect an iPod as well ? let me know offlist and I?ll give you the contact info. MINDBENDER - THE PLANKTONAL BIOMASSIVE feat. Nintendo DS Electroplankton array - LEN GOINS & DAFYDD HUGHES W/ BEN BOGART How can complex beauty emerge from simple conditions? What forces guide unfolding creations, and how can their evolution be directed or controlled? Join us for a pilgrimage into the soul of human-computer collaboration as artists working with customized generative software systems perform music, animation and poetry made in part to make itself, but not without human help! The evening will begin with ambient soundscapes, progress through video game electro bleeps and glitchy hip hoppery, and end off with visceral danceable techno come for a part of the night or enjoy the full spectrum of the evening s entertainment (approximate set times and artist info below) 1:00am-2:30am DJ HYPERCOLOUR presents DJ CHRIST SHEPHERD ON EZEKIEL'S WHEELS OF STEEL - After a bizarre experience involving flying saucers and DanceMix'92, for this special event Eric Shinn's DJ alter-ego Hypercolour has been called upon to be reincarnated as "DJ Christ Shepherd on Ezekiel's Wheels of Steel". Behold the gospel according to mash-ups of diva house, supernatural country-western ballads, early-90s breakbeat techno, sacred chorales, praise-hop, and amens. 12:00am-1:00am NAW & NOKAMI noise factory/arts electronica www.nokami.com naw.phoniq.net - Here we have the pleasure of experiencing a rich audio-visual collaboration between two highly-accomplished performers and innovators with digital media. NAW is Montreal ex-pat and current Torontonian Neil Wiernik, renowned techno producer and composer of danceable and experimental music since 1988, with releases through such notable labels as Noise Factory, Pertin_nce, Clevermusic, Piehead and A/S Systems. An avid designer of custom software environments, NAW has been working at customizing the open-source Pure Data software to enable live creation of refined techno compositions with subtle randomness, in an inspired reaction to the convention of generative music that is often herky-jerky and over-chaotic. Possibly the most well-organized chaotic dance music! - Nokami is Montrealer Eric Filion, renowned for striking visual contributions to such international arts events as Optronica, Arts Electronica, SHARE, CeC, SAT, Champs Libre... Having recently moved to Toronto, he has been building a collection of footage filmed throughout the city, with each scene serving as malleable material to edit live with real-time musical interaction in his Descension project. With heavy processing in software ranging from Premiere and After Effects to Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Resolume, Visual Jockey and FreeFrame, the resulting visual interactions are striking and complex. These are enticing animations of urban deconstruction, with physical landmarks and virtual architectures all moving in synchronicity to the throbbing pulse of Naw's relentless rhythms. 11:00pm-12:00am MANTISSA & FRIEND OF PHI W/ EXISTENTIAL IDIOTS FEAT. & C.O.I. www.brokenbeat.ca/robb www.mantissa.ca - Friend of Phi is Toronto native Robb Gray, who is coming back home from a programming sojourn in Vancouver to showcase for us his unique blend of what he calls "aleatronica" - a fuzzy dice-pimpin' ride over rolling rhythms and melodies of the broken beat, drum and bass and glitch-hop varieties... He'll be playing with a modular algorithmic music composer, using number sequences like Morse-Thue, earthworm and 3n+1, and fractal generators like gingerbread man, chip, henon and kamtorus. Just nod your head! - Mantissa is a project of Toronto-based media artist Jeremy Rotsztain, who develops live cinema techniques using synchronized audio-visual performance. Achieving painterly animation effects with colour fields and pixels evolving according to generative patches and random algorithms, on this special occasion Mantissa's vibrant visuals will also feed off of Friend of Phi's musical output to achieve sensory synchronicity amidst the collaboration's unified unpredictability. - Existential Idiots is the name taken by dynamic duo Lucas Goldstein and Joel Blain, whose goal on this evening will be to create a musical chaos into which Friend of Phi's sonic machinations will devolve. They are threatening to play with a hacked Speak-and-Spell, circuit-bent electronic sound spasms, flute flouting, stochastic turntablism and Darwinian DJ best-fit selecta-ism - we should be very scared indeed! 10:30pm-11:00pm GLOSSOLALIA CREW VS. MINDBENDER bjjm.tnir.org www.myspace.com/mindbendersupreme - Inspired by Deep Blue's steep learning curve and stubborn challenging of chess master Kasparov, but without the corporate backing of IBM, Toronto's Glossolalia crew brings a DIY approach to the borg-like task of assimilating hip hop lyrical flows and breakbeats. Armed with Bronwyn Miller's Pure Data breakbeat engine and Festival speech synthesis rap patches, DJ Kids & Explosions' Ableton arrangements and Finlay Braithwaite's production wizardry, the crew will engage local emcee extraordinaire Mindbender in a prototype computer-vs-human rap battle. Here we have a David-vs-Goliath scenario where for once humanity is on the Goliath side of the equation - so will you root for the experienced human with proven skills on the mic, or the underdog rapping software that spits twisted flows because it doesn't understand the meaning of its words!? 10:00-10:30 THE PLANKTONAL BIOMASSIVE feat. Nintendo DS Electroplankton array electroplankton.nintendods.com - Electroplankton is Japanese media artist Toshio Iwai's wonderfully bizarre new title for the Nintendo DS handheld gaming system. By providing 10 unique virtual sea-life environments in which plankton growth can be directed to achieve different sonic effects, Electroplankton blurs the line between game, simulation and instrument. With the gracious support of Nintendo Canada, for this special event up to five DS Electroplankton systems will be played simultaneously for an immersive sea soundscape created live by Laura Barrett, Eric Shinn and Daniel Borins. 9:30-10:00 LEN GOINS & DAFYDD HUGHES W/ BEN BOGART www.sideshowmedia.ca www.mortmain.com www.ekran.org/ben - Dafydd Hughes retains a deep love and respect for musical traditions, having studied jazz piano at Mohawk College and the University of Toronto where he achieved a degree in performance with a minor in composition. He especially loves the tradition of forward-thinking experimentation, as his music currently fuses acoustic and electronic elements using programming environments such as Csound and Pure Data to synthesize the seemingly disparate genres of church music, jazz improv, rock and electroacoustics. - With a hand in various incarnations of industrial ambience, sonic deconstruction and technical tinkering, Len Goins aka "mortmain( )" says that he seeks epiphanies in exponential contexts and forces cathartic redesign of legacy systems, that this procedure is transhuman, always audible and machine-seeking, and often spontaneous and/or automatic and generally apathetic to its environment. - Ben Bogart's new media projects span from responsive architecture to software development, audio-visual programming to performance, anywhere from local workshops to international conferences. To accompany Len Goins and Dafydd Hughes' music, Ben will present his Self-Similar visual performance piece. This is centered on the fractal theme of self similarity, generating images though an openGL feedback process so that the part resembles the whole. This is performed live in response to the audience and the music. >>> IDM - Intelligent Design Music :: Algorhythms :: Generative :: Improvisational :: Pseudo-Random :: Controlled Evolution :: Cellular Divisionary :: Glitch-hop :: Technorganica :: Aleatronics lysergic jump bust metropolis link hellish rail asparagus edutainment meat corpuscular crash ink warm rap beluga individual materialize jaunty superhighway stank javascript know whale irony tense tokyo secretion brain sulk calypso egg salt pharmacologist fuss high aleatory incarceration encephallogram rayon lion dude heaven tangible smog cat bossa-nova go boyish tesseract whale girl neon fragment stream god paleontologist screen alteration aleatory pedicure coronated torpedo locust chlorinated her rats sari lap tongue mouth rust doughnut eggplant guns cow nose soundcard crash autistic snipped amazing mash overwhelming hedonism kiss unravel pink theremin pharmacopia quadrophonic hype clone weasel metamorphic effigy skull pen sexuality salvation ziggurat need has fjords designer axis ray summer alphabet pheromone gale sexuality why wail there candid unusual thug borg you draconian swoop geodesic saint hedonism discipline labyrinth service nocturnal link drug salvation magnet boyish cheese of acrylic glossolalia snipped snip goosebumps javascript think recessive ass typography state toilet xenophobia gravitation borscht dominatrix then autoerotic gene slip subject need fuchsia hypnopoedia marijuana rust puppy anaphylaxis synaesthesia turntable machine hype needs plank neighbourhood die twin maybe cowboy usual contagious spire twisted rap music From philippe-petit at wanadoo.fr Mon Apr 10 05:06:07 2006 From: philippe-petit at wanadoo.fr (Philippe Petit) Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2006 11:06:07 +0200 Subject: [Microsound-announce] BiP_HOp Generation : March 2006 Playlist Message-ID: BiP_HOp Generation on Radio Grenouille // 88.8 FM Wednesday evenings : 19:10 - 20:30 PM // Marseille // France March 2006 Playlist ARTIST ALBUM label Modern Institute : excellent swimmer (Expanding) Akira Ifukube : king kong vs. godzilla (Lalaland) Daedelus : denies the day's demise (Ninja tune) Flanger : spirituals (Nonplace) APSCI : thanks for asking (Quannum) Psapp : the only thing i ever wanted (Domino) Belong : october language (Carpark) Dressed In Wires : the big black cock of death (Distraction) No-Neck Blues Band und Embryo : embryonnck (Staubgold) N?ze : how to dance (Circus Company) Takagi Masakatsu : journal for people (Carpark) Guido M?bius : dishoek (Dekorder) Trico! : love home (Samurai) The Choir Boys With Strings : s/t (pfMentum) Ekkehard Ehlers : a life without fear (Staubgold) Isol?e : western store (Playhouse) Fink : biscuits for breakfast (Ninja Tune) D_rradio : come to light (Distraction) Hassle Hound : limelight cordial (Staubgold) Small Color : outflow (Samurai) Ripple + Raposo : natureza morta (Cronica) Roots Manuva : alternately deep (Big Dada) VA. I am pleased to announce the launch of a new podcast, Cinema Volta: Sporadic Outbursts - A random collection of recordings, published as the mood strikes. This project is in many ways, the polar opposite of Cinema Volta: Daily Ambience. Where Daily Ambience had an overall structure, a specific timeframe, a regular publishing schedule and a well-defined goal, this project is ruled strictly by whim and inspiration and is completely open-ended. I will post songs when the mood strikes me. The first three tracks, guitar meditations recorded during March, are now available. Also on the bill is Hans Tammen and John Jannone. John and I will both be using electric guitar and laptop for this show, something that we seem to do more often these days and always enjoy. Shimpei will be doing some of his new live video improvisations, a new direction for him and if it's as good as his usual fare should be quite lovely. Add to that our luck at having Stephan joining us improvising on his 16 channel spherical speaker. Nearly the entire program that ran on air for almost six months from July until December 2005 in Polish, German and English can now be selected and heard at the Media Library at ZKM Karlsruhe. Not only is it possible to research artists, program content, background information, time slots and dates on site, but also on the internet (under www.radio-c.zkm.de). The visitors of the ZKM can lean back comfortably in the listening-chairs (by Dieter Mankau for documenta 8)at the ZKM Media Library and listen to the numerous artist?s talks, readings, soundscapes, interviews, live-sessions as well as the 27 commissioned works of the artists radio station. Under the direction of Professor Sabine Breitsameter (Professor of Experimental Audiomedia/Berlin University of the Arts) with the support of the Polish project-coordinator, Robert Gawlowski (University of Wroclaw), and a team of approximately 50 people, a program was realized this past year that until now had been unheard of on any other radio station. Related to current development in media arts and electronic culture, Radio_Copernicus dedicates itself especially to radio art, electro-acoustic art forms, live performances, new literature as well as current cultural and societal debates and discourses. The main focus of the program is the 27 commissioned works given explicitly to chosen artists such as Robert Piotrowicz, Zbigniew Karkowski, Guy van Belle, ElletroVoce, Duo Merzouga, the artists group LIGNA, Stefano Giannotti. About 200 media artists, people who work in radio, producers, technicians, and organizers collectively developed Radio_Copernicus into a broadcast station that implements an innovative cultural radio concept. This has happened not only through its program content from pop to ?high culture?, including the entire range of sophisticated artistic radio work, but above all through its unconventional discourse and presentation forms. Professor Sabine Breitsameter, ?The positive and enthusiastic reactions from artists and listeners show how great the need is for an innovative, and at the same time, artistically sophisticated radio on both sides of the border. Because the audio archives of Radio_Copernicus will be open to the public regardless of the broadcasting time in ZKM, our project gains in having a long-term effect.? Radio_Copernicus, the independent German-Polish Artists Radio, ran from July 15th till December 31st 2005 on local and temporary FM frequencies as well as worldwide via Live-Stream in German, Polish and English 24 hours daily. The mobile station operated between the two neighboring countries. It moved from its first location in Stralsund (July/August 2005) to Warsaw (September 2005), then to Berlin (October 2005) and finally to Wroclaw (December 2005). Radio_Copernicus cooperated with the ?garage? Festival in Stralsund, the ?Warsaw Autumn?, the series of events, ?Dis_Positionen? (Academy of the Arts Berlin) and ?Talking Back to Radio ? Radio as listener- Arty?ci zmieniaj? radio? at the University of Wroclaw as well as at numerous local institutions. Radio_Copernicus was based at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) (Experimental Audiomedia/Sound Studies) and collaborated the Department of Journalism and Social Communications at Wroc?aw University/Poland. Clayton thinks through his relation to programming, artware, expanded cinema + critical theory in this interview conducted by criticalartware on 2003.09.28 in San Francisco during the San Francisco Performance Cinema Symposium. Joshua Goldberg is an artist who was an early adopter + beta tester of Jitter during which time he developed Dervish, an application for realtime video performance authored with Jitter. Goldberg discusses Dervish, Jitter, NATO.0+55 + the beauty of abstraction in this interview conducted by criticalartware on 2003.06.07 in Chicago during AVIT North America: International VJ Conference and Visuals Festival. nfo ABOUT criticalartware's Josh Kit Clayton ++ Joshua Goldberg interviews, criticalartware + BUSKER follows below. # ABOUT JOSH KIT CLAYTON Josh Kit Clayton is a musician, developer and computer programmer who develops Jitter for Max/MSP. Jitter "extends the Max/MSP programming environment to support realtime manipulation of video, 3D graphics and other data sets... Jitter abstracts all data as multidimensional matrices, so objects that process images can also process audio, volumetric data, 3d vertices, or any numerical information you can get into the computer." (0) As a musician, Josh Kit Clayton moved towards including realtime video in performances of his musics, musics that can be variously categorized as electronic, laptop [+/or] glitch. recording under the name Kit Clayton, Clayton tours internationally + has released music through Orthlorng Musork (the label he owned + operated) as well as through Cycling '74 (the company for whom Clayton works developing Jitter). Jitter's introduction in 2003 contributed significantly to the expansion of cinematic approaches to realtime audio + video, especially appealing to developers already familiar with Cycling '74's software product Max/MSP. 0: data.src: title: Jitter Overview dvr: Cycling '74 uri: http://www.cycling74.com/products/jitter http://criticalartware.net/int/jkC # ABOUT JOSHUA GOLDBERG "i am a dedicated abstractionist. i design and perform on frameworks for improvisatory animation using laptops in club and party situations. * what does that mean? i guess you could call me a VJ, but i prefer 'live visualist' as a term. ... i think of myself as more of a light artist than a storyteller. i want people's reaction to my work to be physiological in nature, instead of cognitive. * what does that mean? it means i think stories have no place in nightclubs. * but what does that MEAN? it means shut up and dance. see the flickery gorgeous shit every now and then. ... feedback explorations, circular decisions, a domestic core. custom software, too much equipment, accidental movement. By drawing [parallels/paths] between the [concepts/discourses] of the early video art movement and the current [artware/newmedia] moment, criticalartware hopes to [re] connect the current context to its rightful past: a multitude of [personal/subjective] hyperthreaded [her/hi/hy]stories. http://criticalartware.net # ABOUT BUSKER: Busker is an art space in East Village, Chicago hosting audio/visual projects and new media programming. Busker is well suited for screening video works, audio/visual performances and other media installations. Busker is a non-commercial, artist-run project and its flexibility with curatorial approaches gives artists a platform to facilitate critical discourse in contemporary mediums. We recognize the collaborative and distributive nature of new media practices and want to extend the role of Busker into contemporary modes of networking. Busker functions not only as a physical aggregation point of local new media practices in Chicago, but also as one of many nodes comprising a larger network of media art. http://www.buskerchicago.com From neil at phoniq.net Tue Apr 25 20:04:19 2006 From: neil at phoniq.net (Neil Wiernik) Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2006 20:04:19 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [Microsound-announce] vague terrain this sat. w/ noah pred, naw, b kawula Message-ID: <20060425200406.V32788@dormir> Friends, It's time for the monthly vague reminder about our event this month. This Saturday we'll be at our usual digs at the Artbar at the Gladstone hotel with a night built around a live performance from Noah Pred. Noah is quite accomplished as both a DJ and producer, and while he has been playing some high profile gigs around town alongside artists like Daniel Bell and Sleeparchive nobody has had him play live yet. Vague Terrain resident Naw has been hard at work on his second full length for Noise Factory Record, so you can expect his set to be full of the new material he has been working on. Also on board is B. Kawula a dub/minimal techno producer who was one of the members of the Bit_Rock Alumnae production crew and Vague Terrain resident selector ether.mann. We also will be featuring live generative video courtesy of Mantissa. event details: saturday april 29th, vague terrain presents... noah pred - http://www.metapathrecordings.com/ / http://www.noahpred.com naw - http://www.noisefactoryrecords.com b. kawula - http://www.bitrockalumnae.com/ dj / ether.mann - http://www.serialconsign.com video / mantissa - http://www.mantissa.ca art bar.gladstone hotel 1214 queen street west toronto.canada $5 / 9pm - 3am full details/artist bios available at http://www.vagueterrain.net/content/events.html -- We should also mention that this will be our last monthly at the art bar. We are going to take the next few months to focus on developing the journal both technically and in terms of it's profile in the network of print and web publications we consider interesting. We've been quite fortunate over the past few months and have received quite a bit of press from publications like The Wire and Earplug as well as the expected supported from the online arts community, and we've got some pretty amazing content lined up for vague terrain 03: generative art which will be launched in June. This has made us realize that we really need to develop what we have proposed with these first issues of Vague Terrain. To that end, Greg is currently researching various content management systems and the site will be rebuilt with a completely new PHP driven architecture in the next few months which will also feature an arts/media/music related blog to compliment the journal content with a steady flow of information to compliment the quarterly. We're also planning on an active presence at Mutek this year in hopes of scouting out more interesting audio artists to feature as contributors to the journal. We're not dead in the water regarding events though, we've just decided that we'd rather do a few larger, more focused events a year then a monthly. So a huge thank you is in order to everyone that has supported our night, it's pretty amazing that we have had such a consistent turn out over the past six months with little more then e-promotion and posters in a few choice record stores. Strikingly unique, Urkuma's music offers namedroppers little to cling to. Proceeding from free improvisation and noise, the music pairs together harshness and delicateness to piece together carefully spatialized sonic mosaics. Murmured drones, liquid growls, electrical discharges and acoustic touches: dissembling pieces are assembled into a stunningly unified whole. Urkuma is Stefano De Santis, born in the Southeast part of Italy. He began his artistic career as a playwright, and later developed his unique musical approach to translate his theatre concepts into sound. Live, he is prone to make use of anything within his reach, including laptop, small electronic devices, clarinet, home-built instruments and tapes. "Rebuilding Pantaleone's Tree" consists of nine pieces of various lengths, including a collaboration with Strinqulu's David Della Rossa on "Olifante". The word urkuma is specific to De Santis' home region of Salento and expresses the opposite to the Buddhist concept of nirvana. "Rebuilding Pantaleone's Tree" is a concept album based on the monk Pantaleone's marvellous mosaic floor in the Cathedral of Otranto. The mosaic depicts several unusual elements, including a number of animals playing musical instruments, such as the donkey with a harp seen on the album's cover. "Rebuilding Pantaleone's Tree" draws inspiration from the techniques of mosaic art and Pantaleone's symbolism. For this very special show, the line-up will consist of: - Scanner (electronics) - Claudio Sinatti (video) - Stefano Tedesco (vibraphone, percussions) - Andrea Gabriele (computer, guitar) Initiated in 2005 during the 3rd edition of the PEAM festival (Pescara, Italy), the Symbiosis Orchestra is a mix-media ensemble currently playing as a quartet. Their performances offer a symbiotic combination of music and images in a complex projection system, while their sound takes its origin in the fusion of classical and electronic instruments. Always driven by improvisation, their musical inspiration comes from a lot of different styles, including ambient, electronica, jazz and ethnographic music. The ever evolving line-up already featured the contributions from the following artists: - Iris Garrelfs (Germany) - Scanner (UK) - Claudio Sinatti (Italy) - Stefano Tedesco (Italy) - Andrea Gabriele (Italy) - Marco Messina (Italy) - Geoff Warren (UK) - Diego Conti (Italy) - Roberto Di Egidio (Italy) A DVD release of their work is planned later this year. Under a glitch guise, (etre)'s music hides a resolutely personal approach combining melodicism, collage, lyricism, and a sharp sense of digital textures. (etre) is the project of Italian sound artist Salvatore Borrelli, who was first active in the fields of sound art installation and experimental performance art. A member of the collective iXem, he has worked with interior decorator Lin-Kuhn Liao and ceramist Fabrizio Quintelmo. While already working on a continuation to his forthcoming full-length, (etre) is currently writing the tablatures of another project for acoustic guitar, violin and voice. He has also started to work on a CD with Fabio Orsi and Kinetix. In August, he will play live at the "Interferenze" festival with Elio Martusciello, and at the "Piombino" festival with Fabio Orsi. The compilation will be distributed free of charge to US radio stations and public access media outlets. Submissions must be 60 seconds in duration and be free of language which would violate FCC regulations for radio airplay. In a follow-up project to the 2004 CommTom release, "Polyphonic Voices Of Digital Dissent", which appeared on Democracy Now, Air America, and numerous radio stations across the United States, CommTom will release this next compilation to an increased number of targeted broadcasters across the United States. The accepted submissions will also be available for free download from the CommTom website, but will not be sold in stores. Custom packaging, designed and letterpress printed by MATTER will round out the presentation. A single copy will also be offered as compensation to contributing artists whose works are accepted for the project. Additional copies will be available to participating artists at cost. This project will increase distribution to 100 independent, community and college radio stations across the country. Broadcasters who previously added CommTom's "Polyphonic" tracks will also be receiving the new release. Stations that featured last years project ranged from the West Coast (Radio For Peace International, and KBOO - Oregon; San Francisco Liberation Radio, KCRW, KPFA, and KMUD ? California), to the Mountain region (KZMU ? Utah; KGNU, Radio 1190 ? Colorado; KZUM - Nebraska), to the South (KOOP ? Austin; KPFT Pacifica Radio ? Houston; KXCI ? Arizona; WMMT ? Kentucky), throughout the Midwest (Common Ground Radio ? Iowa; KFAI ? Minnesota; KDHX ? Missouri; WFHB ? Indiana; WAIF ? Ohio; WYCE ? Michigan; WORT ? Wisconsin; Chicago Public Radio - Illinois), along the East Coast (WMNF, and WLRN - Florida; WBAI ? New York; Radio Volta - Pennsylvania), and as far-reaching as Maine (WERU) and Hawaii (KKCR). Inspired by media activists (Jim Hightower, Amy Goodman, Noam Chomsky, Jello Biafra, Howard Zinn, David Barsamian, etc.) who continue to create alternative responses to corporate mainstream ?news? information, CommTom hopes to edify and to entertain in a political climate that apparently seeks to nullify and restrain. We encourage other advocates of democratic practices to exercise the rights of speech, of assembly, and of legitimate regime change via untampered electoral processes. Exercise prevents atrophy.
