Message-ID: <5df985063728184473a2f70c2c7f4264@3particles.com> hello again, well as always autumn gets crazy busy and this one is off to busy start. goodbye overly hot summer. had a wonderful time in switzerland for two performances at the beginning of september. and accidentally fell asleep during taylor's set in Bern. zzzzzzzz... ooops. :) off to Belgrade tuesday for the first of a series of CHESSMACHINE performances in Europe. hope to see some of you soon, richard - - RECENT RELEASES AVAILABLE ON 3PARTICLES.COM PAYPAL SITE - - OUT NOW > 2CD . Re'post'post-fabricated [ DSP Recordings, Italy ] This 2CD project will have the reformed/remastered Post-Fabricated CD (originally issued on CDR on Dutch label Microwave in 1999 as an edition of 222). I was never happy with the sound quality of the final master due to the engineer and my analog recording limitations at the time. This is an odd recording for me, which you could say is my most "pop" release in its quirky rhythmic elements. The second CD is remixes/reworkings from the original files by Frank Bretschneider, COH, Taylor Deupree, Freiband, Goem, Alva Noto, Byetone, Sogar, Asmus Tietchens, Vend, Matmos, Steve Roden, and myself. OUT VERY SOON! LP + CD . Retrieval 1-2 + Retrieval 1-5 [ ERS, The Netherlands ]. This will be two works that were created at my artist residency at the Music Research Centre @ York University, UK. based on soundfiles and loops of mine from 1990-1993. the CD will include an extended reworking of "Retrieval 3" + 2 additional retrieval pieces. http://radiantslab.com/ers these can be pre-ordered on the online store below. shipping of orders should be by mid october. sorry for the continuing delay. OUT NOW! CD . CHESSMACHINE Live in Los Angeles [ LINE, US ] the collaborative performance project CHESSMACHINE by Richard Chartier (US) and Ivan Pavlov (aka COH) (RUS). A certain humor shapes the conceptual dialectics of the CHESSMACHINE live experience. Their interplay suggests the historical confrontation of East and West; an austere and chilling tete-a-tete over the chessboard that reconstructs the somber milieu of a bygone Europe, even as it conveys a kind of absurdist levity through the rehearsed performance of these roles. The use of MAC and PC computer operating systems by Chartier and Pavlov, respectively, becomes the late-20th century manifestation of classic Cold War combatants. Through their engagement, a process of sonic and aesthetic displacement unfolds, such that one player's strategic manipulation of sound begins slowly to affect and then determinatively shape the compositional technique of the other. CHESSMACHINE's live performances take place in real time with color coded staging, uniforms, lighting, and video projections designed by Russian-American installation/video artists Evelyn Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand. This live recording of Chessmachine took place on February 25, 2005 at REDCAT in Los Angeles. The performance was presented by the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) as part of Visual Music: SEE HEAR NOW!, an experimental music series investigating the synaesthetic resonance between contemporary music and visual art, in conjunction with their exhibit Visual Music. http://www.12k.com a limited number of these & other releases are available via the ONLINE STORE http://www.3particles.com/paypal Overview is now officially sold out. - - RECENT + CURRENT STUFF - - > EXHIBIT + LIVE . The well known fact of the Inuits having access to more than 13 (or was it 30?) terms for 'snow' comes to mind on the apperception of this release. As the title already hints at, these tracks appear to represent a spectrum of blue both more wide and deep than ordinary english can communicate. A blue note resounding from the movement of the spheres, this is a buddhist blue - a deep-listening experience into melancholy; the sonic aura of the qualified nothingness at the essence of illumination. Sant' Angelo, a small village in central Italy. Emiliano Romanelli and Rossano Polidoro have started Tu m' in 1998 (named after Marcel Duchamp's last painting) and since then released several critically acclaimed records on labels such as Phtalo, ERS/Staalplaat, F?llt, Aesova and BOXmedia. They have recently started Steno with Frank Metzger of Oval (debut LP coming soon on the En/Of label). They have collaborated with Steve Roden for an album release on Rossbin and are currently working with Simon Fisher Turner on some new tracks to be included on his forthcoming album on Mute Records. Additionally they run the CD-label Mr. Mutt (another Duchamp reference) and curate the MP3-label Tu M'p3 releasing Soundtracks to webcam pictures by a diverse range of artists such as Donna Summer, D?lek, Chris Cutler, Noel Akchote, Farmers Manual, Voice Crack, Alan Licht, David Grubbs and Dekorder artists such as Voks, Un Caddie Renvers? dans l'Herbe and Black to Comm. Their new album titled "Just One Night" still contains their trademark improvisations on guitars, alto sax, flutes, toy keyboards, alto flugelhorn, percussion, harmonica, etc. looped, processed and edited into compositions, combined with field recordings and the odd vinyl sample used occassionally. These raw materials are sculpted into beautifully melancholic songs all dealing with the "night" theme, making this their most coherent album yet. The album has been mastered by Marcus Schmickler (Pluramon, MIMEO, etc.). http://www.tu-m.com ...It's not just that Tu M' (...) use sound sources out of the ordinary - plenty of others incorporate acoustic guitar, saxophone, toy keyboards and flute into their music - it's the way that they edit these sources together in a fashion which combines the precisely surgical and the winningly quixotic. It's all about cunningly presented detail: the evanescent melodica flitting from channel to channel in "Strange Sleep"; the rattling rimshots lurking in the depths as "Blue Blur" sways through cubist jazz bar scapes; the tiny, throaty female gasp that punctuates the off-kilter whirl of "An Afternoon In The Country". "The First Rays Of The Sun" is a pristine example of the painterly mastery of Tu M' - an elliptical, wistful, immmaculate collection of sonic fragments held in beautiful, unresolved suspension. Chris Sharp / The Wire Ach, was f?r eine bezaubernde Platte. AudioCubes are a collection of two or more plastic cubes, each containing a batterypowered sound and light processing computer. The audio and control signals generated by each of the AudioCubes are transmitted by infra-red light to other cubes placed within a proximity of 40 cm. Each cube can sample the sound from four of the cube?s faces, process it, and convert it back to analog sound to be transmitted through the same four faces. Because of the analog transmission used, light (and thus sound) can be mixed by pointing two or more cubes at a third cube. Each AudioCube contains both infra-red emitters, detectors, sound input/output connectors and a built-in omni-directional microphone. Besides the sensors and emitters each cube also contains a light source (red, green and blue) which can be controlled from the sound algorithms. By positioning the cubes relative to each other and moving them, the parameters of the algorithm (think: modular synthesizer) can be changed in real-time and in turn affect the sound. Depending on the algorithms running on the cubes and their orientation and location, an infinite number of sound synthesis techniques become possible. The AudioCubes are unique in their simple user interface and offer a novel approach to sound synthesis: collaborative music creation. Think of each AudioCube as a single synthesizer module connected by light beams instead of patch cables, and moving the cubes similar to moving the controls on a synthesizer module and you'll have a pretty good idea as to the possibilities AudioCubes offer. ? For more information on Percussa AudioCubes and sound examples please visit: http://www.percussa.com Kim Cascone has a long history involving electronic music: he received his formal training in electronic music at the Berklee College of Music in the mid 1970's, and in 1976 continued his studies with Dana McCurdy at the New School for Social Research in New York City. In the 1980's, after moving to San Francisco and gaining experience as an audio technician, Cascone worked with David Lynch as Assistant Music Editor on both Twin Peaks and Wild at Heart. Cascone left the film industry in 1991 to concentrate on Silent Records, a label that he founded in 1986, transforming it into the US's premier electronic music label. He sold thecompany at the height of it's success in early 1996 to pursue a different career path and worked for Thomas Dolby's company Headspace as a staff sound designer and composer. After two-years at Headspace he worked for Staccato Systems as the Director of Content where he oversaw sound design using algorithmic synthesis for video games. Since 1984, Kim has released more than 30 albums of electronic music and has recorded/performed with Merzbow, Keith Rowe, Tony Conrad, Scanner, Ikue Mori, and Pauline Oliveros among others. Cascone is a co-founder of the microsound list which focuses on issues concerning digital music and laptop performance (http://www.microsound.org) and has written for Computer Music Journal (MIT Press), Artbyte Magazine, Contemporary Music Review, and Parachute Journal. Past solo and collaborative site-specific installations & performances have consisted of highly conceptualized interventions into base materiality, investigations of alternative systems of organization and research into a certain material decadence (as with the project The Institution of Rot, London 1993-96). The title of tonight's performance is "phantom music - an aural hallucination". http://www.elision.org.au/collaborators/crow.html In the second set NAW (aka Neil Wiernik) will be doing a rare live performance of some of his recent ambient material. NAW has working intercity with Aidan Baker and Nathan McNinch over the past year on a series of collaborative works, using the internet as a their medium. This project draws on the lush guitar work of Aidan Baker, the spare minimalism of Nathan McNinch's piano work and the highly textured sound design work of Neil Wiernik. The project, initiated by NAW, is an exercise in conducting musicians without them being in the same room. Wiernik requested both artists to provide him with material played in a specific manner to be worked with in the studio as his compositional elements. The result is rich, sullen music reminiscent of artists found on Constellation, Kranky and the label NAW calls home - Noise Factory. This new work has only been performed in its entirety once, in Montreal, where reviews compared the material to the music of Godspeed, minus the rock instruments. NAW uses only a laptop, a midi controller and various software applications to manipulate and contort these sounds into cinematic works for your ears. http://www.naw.phoniq.net http://www.noisefactoryrecords.com/naw.htm Video projections by SelfService - Jakob Thiesen and Rebecca McLellan http://www.theambientping.com/thiesen/home.html Presented in association with SOUNDplay: http://www.soundtravels.ca/soundplay THE AMBiENT PiNG is a social sound/art event presenting live performances by Toronto's finest ambient, improvisational and experimental music artists plus performers from across the continent, every Tuesday evening at HACiENDA. http://www.theambientping.com From mattdavignon at sbcglobal.net Mon Oct 10 13:59:03 2005 From: mattdavignon at sbcglobal.net (Matt Davignon) Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 10:59:03 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Microsound-announce] Wed, Oct 12 English, Skaters, Tom Carter, Matt Davignon in San Francisco In-Reply-To: <20051010160127.5FD3950F7ED@collab.or8.net> Message-ID: <20051010175903.36610.qmail@web81409.mail.yahoo.com> Wednesday, Oct 12 2005 9:00 PM Hotel Utah 500 Fourth Street @Bryant San Francisco $5 English (from Korea!) Greg Smith & Neil Wiernik vagueterrain.net editors/curators -- Artist Information kero - detroit / det.und / bpitch / shitkatapult / http://www.djkero.com With over 13 releases on some of electronic music's most celebrated and innovative labels such as Bpitch, Ghostly International, Shitkatapult, and Downwards, as well as his own critically acclaimed Detroit Underground Records, Kero (nee Sohail Azad) has established a reputation for his unrepentantly brash, yet cultivated compositions and unforgettable live performances. Kero has established himself as a leader within the growing pack of electronic music producers successfully infiltrating contemporary art circles world wide and has recently shared the stage with Speedy J, Ken Ishii and Funkstorung. His innovative approach to music, graphic design and video production feeds on the detritus of popular electronic culture, creating a montage of fleeting musical and visual experiences that are paradoxically critical and enamored with contemporary culture. Drawing on his experiences as a dual citizen of both Canada and the United States, Kero conducts visual and aural investigations that are concerned with ideas of the diametric and intermediary. Subsequently, the ephemeral nature of electronic culture, the "rave" experience and aesthetic offers a microcosm to explore similar elements in popular culture. The result is music that blurs genres from hip-hop to the most rarified of techno experiments, video art which stirs faint recollections of print and televised media, and a design language that has ingrained itself upon the most celebrated electro-cultural market in the world. naw - noise factory / vague terrain / http://www.naw.phoniq.net Montreal native Neil Wiernik currently living in Toronto, began his explorations in electronic music making as early as 1988. Known to push the boundaries of his musical form from designing new or manipulating existing sound making devices and software to creative uses of production environments and sound sources, naw's music is a blend of sound manipulation/design, experimental musics and dub-tech rhythms, which on the surface sound quite simple, but incorporate a number of touches that steer this artist away from being simply another minimal techno or experimental laptop artist. He combines post-house, dubby minimal techno, microsound and thick ambience, to create his own version of deep techno, house and other electronic laptop orineted musics. Neil has released music on various national and international record labels, including releases on Noise Factory, Complot, Clevermusic, Piehead and Pertin_nce. As naw, Neil has performed extensively along side a variety of national and international artists both in and outside of Canada. In 2004 and 2005 naw will released his follow up noise factory record full length called: "green nights orange days", as well as a full length outting with Pertin_nce Records called: "terrain vague". These two records find Neil at his deepest, dubbiest and most experimental sounding yet. The release of these records will coincide with a series of North American and European tour dates through out 2005. des cailloux et du carbone - montreal / natacha's records / mutek 2005 This solo project from Marcello Marandola, a Montreal-based musician and one-half of data-folk duo Cian Ethrie, subscribes to a niche of experimentations and playful escapades associated with Natachas Recordings. So, when Marandola claims that his music is of the house variety, do not misinterpret him! Actual household field recordings are incorporated into his sound; its an bedroom brand of music that he concocts in the comforts of his own abode. His compositions are undeniably intimate, infused by sounds that we may hear everyday. Powered by melancholic tones and subtle jolts, with a layering of accidental fractures that fittingly disrupt the sonorous continuum, the compositions from des cailloux et du carbone are unfaltering in their quest to invade your memory with dissected and detailed repetitions, simultaneously evoking nostalgic images. On stage, the traditional house music influences may increasingly appear as the overall sound oscillates between the scattered and the rhythmic. tasman richardson - famefame / http://www.famefame.com Tasman Richardson is a videomaker , electronic composer, designer, curator, and organizer. His work has shown in Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Egypt, England, France, Finland, Holland, Iceland, Peru, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and The United States. His time is slowly whittled away by making art and cultivating a refined knowledge of all things geek. He does not live in his parents basement but does enjoy winning Jubal's money on Bosconian and the odd D&D game. He has performed and collaborated under the aliases M.O.I., JAWA, Pox, FAMEFAME, theblameshifter, IBM, OHVOV, Anvil, Polygon Noose, and Noise-Op. His artworks are available through Vtape, Artcore, Microcinema International, Hymen, and famefame. liav koren Liav Koren studies architecture, urbanism, cities, people, digital techniques, gossip, the trajectories of dust motes in sun-light, art and design at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. In a different life he pretended to be a math student at York, while sneaking into urban studies and fine arts classes. He is particularly interested in the ways in which tools and systems of representation quietly infiltrate and shape the way we think and design. He spends too much time pecking instructions into computers and waiting patiently to see what will happen. Recently, animated grids have been the result. ------------------ www.vagueterrain.net ------------------ From neil at phoniq.net Tue Oct 11 11:25:32 2005 From: neil at phoniq.net (Neil Wiernik) Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2005 11:25:32 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [Microsound-announce] MTL - sat oct 15 w/ NAW, PIMILK, CYAN, JASMINE Message-ID: <20051011112519.E83923@nocturne.dreaming.org> PERMUTATIONS with NAW, PIMILK, CYAN, JASMINE SATURDAY OCTOBER 15 LA SALLE D'ATTENTE / ESPERANZA 5490 ST-LAURENT 9PM - 1AM ENTRY $3 PERMUTATIONS is an event showcasing the intersections of dub, techno and minimal electronic music. Two djs and two live acts will smother your senses in the deep reverberations of dub and its electronic descendants. A former computer science/mathematics major, Pimilk is no stranger to software. They have worked together for over two years in various multimedia exhibitions and will be performing together remotely from their homes in Paris & Lyon. Thomas Behuret is a Paris based photographer working for musical magazines such as Vibrations & R&R. He's artistic work is centres on the city and the influence of urban architecture on the people who live there. His starting point is 'The human in the city' and deals with notions of absorption, anonymity and standardisation of lifestyle that is reflected in city living. He has shown his work in exhibitions in France & Canada the most recent being a multimedia photographic installation "Eautopsie" for the event "Eaux arts el ectroniques " and "Extension d'un vide" in collaboration with Thomas Fontin for the exhibition "Desert", both organized by Champ Libre, in Montreal. http://www.thomas-behuret.com Thomas Fontins' introduction to electronic music goes back to the free party movement of the late nineties while he was studying musicology at Paris University. After finishing his MA he decided to specialise in sound and video game design and is currently working as a sound designer for Eden Games, a video game development studio based in Lyon. He explains his compositional process as simple and pragmatic starting with the manipulation of concrete audio and textures. "Chaos, improvisation and chance always hold a central place in my compositions leading to a process that is both humorous & experimental. My principal inspirations are multiple but I remain easily influenced by the city and urban deserts, which are like a mirror of our present society". John Kannenberg 16.30 - 17.15 GMT John Kannenberg creates quietly reflective works in both image and sound that blur the boundaries between intention and accident. Incorporating techniques derived from free improvisation, musical composition, field drawing, minimalism, cubism and abstract expressionism in their construction, his works deal with a variety of themes including primal natural forces, spirituality and mindful contemplation, melancholy and nostalgia, abstracted narratives, and the confluence of sonic and visual art. John's work has been presented in the United States, Europe and Australia, including appearances at the John Cage Musicircus at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the so.cal.sonic festival in Long Beach, ISEA 2004 in Tallinn, the Biennale of Electronic Arts in Perth, the Version Festival in Chicago, the Placard Festival in New York, the MAXIS festival in Sheffield, and several broadcast appearances on Resonance 104.4 FM London. He has released recordings on Crouton, Topscore, Grain of Sound, Retinascan, Earlabs and Cohort, and has been a co-presenter of the Something Else radio program on WLUW 88.7 FM Chicago. Since April 2002, John has served as the creator, designer and curator of Stasisfield.com, an experimental music label and interdisciplinary digital art space presenting works by a diverse collection of artists from around the globe. http://www.johnkannenberg.com http://www.stasisfield.com General Mixing 17.15 - 18.00 The Studio will re-open again for general mixing from 17.15 and participating artists will be available online to discuss their work. We would also encourage people to upload and mix their own sound and visual files as we end the session in an open net jam. Furthernoise.org is hosting a series of monthly live A/V net events and is interested to hear from all audio and visual artists who feel that they could create interesting A/V performances in Visitors Studio. THANK YOU! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity presented by patrick mcginley our first session in our new 8-9pm timeslot found us drifting back into slow-build mode, perhaps helped along by an early audition of heribert freidl's new bradycard release, named for a medical term which means 'to have a very slow heart rhythm.' another impeccable untreated recording (this time very close up with a rabbit) by jeph jerman led us deeper down, into the depths of a live performance at riga's rixc by arturas bumsteinas, during which we encountered a collection of iranian soundscapes recorded by fred inklaar. recovery began by rejoining one of our contacts from this summer's travels; mpld graced us with his prepared slide projector performances while we were in new york in july, and the source material for a live performance we saw back here in the uk by bill thompson brought our evening to close. now, i think i have successfully battered our broadcast time-change into skulls all around, however i did blunder slightly by implying (well, stating...) that our wednesday morning repeat would remain unchanged. this, in fact, was completely untrue. framework will continue to be repeated weekly, and these repeats will remain on wednesday morning, however, from this week we take up our new repeat time on 10-11am. this should make things slightly easier for some of you in certain parts of the world, and slightly more difficult for those of you in the other direction. so set those alarms! again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch! framework 31 nevill road london n16 8sl uk framework at talk21.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14.10.05 this edition will be rebroadcast this wednesday, 19.10.05, at 10am bst (artist / title / album / label) keith de mendonca / framework intro the tide lapping under breakwater boulders recorded at the harbor in agia efmia in kefalonia http://www.dismbody.demon.co.uk heribert freidl / expand / bradycard / nonvisual objects processed cymbalon and a building storm to slow our heartbeats http://www.nonvisualobjects.com/heribert_friedl, http://www.nonvisualobjects.com jeph jerman / rabbit / - / - very quiet close-up recording; field-recording macro mode http://www.davidstanford.com/jerman arturas bumsteinas / track one / live @ rixc / organic pipeline slow-building lithuanian groans and textures recorded live in riga, latvia http://www.bumstein.com/art, http://www.organicpipeline.com fred inklaar / half the world hussein down with usa / iran business machines (R) / - evocative collection of recordings from various social situations around iran in 1998 http://www.inklaar.net (nb: great site - have a look!) mpld / track one / rncdr#4 / - solo improv for prepared and laptop manipulated slide projectors (available for download on the website below) http://www.m-i-c-r-o.net/mpld bill thompson / track one / mcalpine construction site, footdee / autumn records unbelievable untreated recordings of the wind singing through scaffolding poles http://www.billthompson.org, http://www.autumnrecords.net -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework intro submissions: 1) take yourself and an audio recording device to a location of your choice 2) record for AT LEAST 1 minute before you - 3) read the following text: welcome to framework. framework is a show consecrated to field recording, and it's use in composition. field recording, phonography, the art of sound-hunting; open your ears and listen! 4) continue your recording for AT LEAST 2 minutes after you've finish speaking 5) send the recording on any format to the address above, or as an mp3 via email thanks! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The project is inspired by a period in history when the telephone was the first broadcasting medium for entertainment. From the 1880s to 1920s phone companies in many countries including France, Britain, Hungary and America set up subscription services connecting opera houses and theatres to a remote audience, listening via the telephone network. Dial-a-diva serves a similar function, but reflects today's global telecommunications and social networks. The event will start at 08:00 GMT on December 3rd in time for evening concerts in New Zealand and Australia. Then as time moves on, concerts will begin throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and ending with the Americas, 24 hours later. An installation at CCA Gallery, Glasgow, Scotland invites visitors to participate and view the hub of operations throughout the project. To be part of Dial-a-Diva all you need to do is sing into a telephone, or use your phone as a microphone wherever singing happens. The Dial-a-Diva call centre will link as many different types of singing, from as many locations as possible to a wide international audience of telephone listeners. Whether at home, in a concert hall or bar, whether professionally or just for fun, whether accompanied or solo, whatever the singing Dial-a-Diva would love to have you taking part. [ http://www.thomas-behuret.com ] Thomas Fontins' introduction to electronic music goes back to the free party movement of the late nineties while he was studying musicology at Paris University. ----- John Kannenberg creates quietly reflective works in both image and sound that blur the boundaries between intention and accident. Greg Smith & Neil Wiernik http://www.vagueterrain.net ? editors/curators -- Artist Information kero - detroit / det.und / bpitch / shitkatapult / http://www.djkero.com With over 13 releases on some of electronic music's most celebrated and innovative labels such as Bpitch, Ghostly International, Shitkatapult, and Downwards, as well as his own critically acclaimed Detroit Underground Records, Kero (nee Sohail Azad) has established a reputation for his unrepentantly brash, yet cultivated compositions and unforgettable live performances. The release of these records will coincide with a series of North American and European tour dates through out 2005. des cailloux et du carbone - montreal / natacha's records / mutek 2005 This solo project from Marcello Marandola, a Montreal-based musician and one- half of ?data-folk? duo Cian Ethrie, subscribes to a niche of experimentations and playful escapades associated with Natacha?s Recordings. So, when Marandola claims that his music is of the ?house? variety, do not misinterpret him! Actual household field recordings are incorporated into his sound; it?s an ?bedroom? brand of music that he concocts in the comforts of his own abode. Zbigniew Karkowski, Robert Lippok, Wojtek Zamiara, Raphael Roginski + Cukunft, Maria Peszek & Elektrolot, Sasker Scheerder and the duo Merzouga will be presented on "Explorations". London based Basque feedbacker Mattin has gained an excellent reputation as improviser in the last few years, performing regulary with well-known reductionists as Mark Wastell and Radu Malfatti and veterans as Eddie Prevost (AMM) on their project Sakada. "Abuse Divisons" is a unique track recorded in real time a week ago in Vienna; again, Mattin resembles the approach of the more radical electroacoustic improvisers just working with the endless dicotomy noise-silence. software used: pd, jamin, qjackctl, ardour and rezound running on GNU/Linux Debian Sarge. http://www.con-v.org http://www.mattin.org From heribert.friedl at aon.at Mon Oct 31 05:33:40 2005 From: heribert.friedl at aon.at (Heribert Friedl) Date: Mon, 31 Oct 2005 11:33:40 +0100 Subject: [Microsound-announce] info/thank you Message-ID: <000801c5de06$8f9bf560$8c00000a@blue> hello microsounders! just want to say that the label started great. a lot of positive response from all over the world. the cd "ataraxia" together with bernhard g?nter is sold out on our website. please contact bernhard g?nter (www.trenteoiseaux.com) or a distributor for an order. many reviews could be read on our website. included the latest reviews one from the wire magazine. A crafter of systems-based music, Koniuto here sets a variety of quiet sounds in motion - piano, radio transmissions, percussion, drones - and gently nudges them into ever-changing relationships, like tiny objects floating in zero gravity. Adrift in repetition, its subtle, sometimes sudden changes create an atmosphere of - dare it be said - "Eno-esque" serenity. THANK YOU! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity presented by patrick mcginley we framed this week's edition with two sizable samples from lethe's (who you may also know as one half of the location improvising duo kuwayama-kijima) recent double cd on cloud of statics entitled catastrophe point #1 & #2. lethe makes all his source recordings is a large empty warehouse space, using what sounds like materials found therein and occasional instruments - the recordings paint quite a picture or the space, and his carefully constructed compositions pit close-up tiny sounds with distant thunderous barrelling. this double cd makes for quite a document. xan phillips (apparently a prolific podcaster - see his website at http://www.xan.co.uk) recently sent us this recording made outside the oval during the final few minutes of the game that finally won england the ashes - yes, a very topical recording indeed, or at least it would have been if i'd managed to get in on the air even remotely soon after i received it! but it still makes for a good listen, and provides a nice segue from screaming fans to howling monkeys. can you tell which are which? the rest of the edition was an exercise in unexpected blending - douglas quin's amazing untreated recordings from the brazilian rainforest somehow complimented perfectly ben owen's high pitched and staticy fm-transmitter-and-record-player sound constructions, which completed tobias c. van veen and tomas phillips' live minimal jigsaw puzzle, which cleared a path for steve roden's breathy rice-dreams. all in all a rather enveloping show, i think... again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch! framework 31 nevill road london n16 8sl uk framework at talk21.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 28.10.05 this edition will be rebroadcast this wednesday, 02.11.05, at 10am gmt (artist / title / album / label) bobby hick & phill harding / framework intro walking along a footpath by a farm complete with rottweillers, ducks, geese, sheep and alpacas phill at klang.fsnet.co.uk lethe / disc 1 track 1 / catastrophe point #1 & #2 / cloud of statics spacious compositions from ambient warehouse junk manipulations www.lethe-voice.com, http://www.cloudmirror.org xan phillips / binaural britain - england wins the ashes / - / - on site recordings of the sound of the oval at the moment england recently won the ashes - topical documentary sports phonography?
